well I didn't believe in acupuncture but the doctor who used to be my pediatrician turned to natural healing and acupuncture. Back when type B flu was going around I caught a really bad case in which I felt I was no longer absorbing oxigen I was getting pale, really weak and congested so before I went to the ER my mother told me to try it out and I said well I have nothing to lose and she said she did everything she could to put my body into fight mode and got me out of there breathing like in 25 minutes, the next several days I coughed it all out without any other meds but she did give me some homeopathics, now I know it works.

I would have liked a clearer explanation of what exactly it means with the lighting up of certain areas of the brain. For example, are those lit up areas associated with the part of the body that the needle is in?

Hi can this treatment help me to become seizure/ epilepsy free?
I feel for you bro. My wife suffers from seizures. If you think about it, if they were able to use acupuncture to cure epilepsy, then all hospitals would be using it. Seizures are the kind of thing that you can't hide like a mild headache. So it would be very easy to tell if acupuncture worked for that ailment but unfortunately it doesn't.
@@jtveg if actupunture worked for seizures/epilepsy I don’t believe they would be using it in the hospitals. Mainly because acupuncture is a type of holistic medicine, which doctors do not learn in their training.

You just contradicted yourself by saying that doctors don't learn about acupuncture in their training yet it is used in hospitals.
The fact remains that the data for the efficacy of the use of acupuncture in seizures and epilepsy is inconsistent and limited at best. Which is best explained by placebo.

Can I learn how to do acupuncture at home?
No. It takes very very extensive traning to learn that. Im going to school for a TCM doctor and I have to take biology and physiology courses to do acupuncture correctly
You should only do it under proper medical training (e.g. through a nationally-licensed program). Acupressure is a good at-home option though.

Toothpicks? that would be horribly painful!
They don't puncture you with the toothpick. They just touch you with the toothpick and it feels exactly the same as the acupuncture needle being inserted (apparently they are relatively painless because they are extremely thin). They do this in studies, and patients reported that they feel better (not realising that they weren't actually acupunctured). Which implies that all that is actually going on is *placebo.* That's what he meant by _"sham studies"._
They are not shams at all and is in fact how you are meant to conduct a proper scientific study. Correct protocols, double blind, large sample size and repeatability.
