I live in the Eastern Heights area. 59 years, same home. Elyria was great when I was a kid in the late 60s and 70s. It's had better days, but it's all what you make of it. Lots of great memories and I still have one neighbor I grew up with. Thank you for featuring Elyria.
Eastern hights was the area with college names. Elyria is my hometown. Live in vermilion now. 80's 90's Elyria was great to grow up in. Now it's a ghost town
Deliria in Elyria... 545 Whitman Blvd and Rolen Plastics. Smitty's and Depot Street bars. Cleveland Street and Route 57. North Recreation ice rink. Cherry Ridge golf course. Washington Avenue rich folks.
This may be a Deja vu moment. Cascade park. Back in the old days, they had a few bears! Sadly, they were caged,in an enclosure 😢 But it was a locally famous attraction. Poor bears, people would taunt them, throw things at them. I cry sometimes, remembering this.
@@charlesperez9976 Bud, I might have to retract that, more reading says they were rescued before the flood got them, sorry to bum you out, but that is what i remembered.
I and my wife's families moved to Elyria in 1960. Lots of mom & pop shops there when we were growing up. The area of town you first referred to is called Eastern Heights. We lived on Oxford at one time. It was a nice town until some 20 years ago when minorities kids turned it into a drug-infested version of East Cleveland. And that dizzy dame that got ousted as mayor had a lot the old 19th century buildings razed. Dumb move. Should've been done like Lebanon, OH that makes everyone fix up the old buildings. And when you turned north on Middle Avenue, by Erie Coffee Co, that area was known as Cheapside in the 19th & early 20th centuries.
Schools was great when i was a kid. Raised on Westside. Oakwood elementary (closed) Westwood Jr and Elyria west (closed) was all great schools. Not sure now. Sorry multiple comments. I'm responding as I watch
I live in Lorain, work in Elyria, and my tax returns remind me every year🤣 Elyria,,founded by Herman Ely in 1817. It’s very similar to Lorain, but without access to a useable stretch of the Black River. As a result, land based industries thrived,to this day, chemical plants thrive,I am an employee of one. Yeah yuck, chemicals. But we all purchase products from this local industry! Go ahead, throw away your smartphone, throw away your prescription eyeglasses, throw away your cars. The chemical industry of Elyria makes these things possible. Think about that.
Without Doordash and Grubhub, you can't get pizza/food delivery from a variety of places. I live off of West Ridge where new home developments are going up. Yet, been told by Pizza Hut, Dominos, Chinese, and many more that either 1-its too far ??? and 2-its crime ridden and dangerous WTF? Most food places are ONLY 2-3 miles away from my area. The cows and deer might jack food delivery or money on hand? All places require some kind of card for payment when ordering so, drivers don't need to carry cash. I and others are old or disabled and don't/can't get out often. All businesses have left. The entire mall area is empty and abandoned. You conveniently left out video clips of the dead areas.

Riddell is in North Ridgeville right on the border though
Yep. they were in Elyria but moved just a little down the road because NR offered tax incentives
Elyria once had a hell of a lot of night bar life, many places to go in a small area.

Oh that’s actually good news, that they were rescued!
I hope they went on to a better life from there!
I lived in Sheffield Township between Elyria and Lorain before moving to Kentucky
I'm excited to see your video.

My Family moved to Elyria in the late 40's, I grew up in the area in the 60's/70's, it was a good place to live then.
The GM plant that closed in the 80’s once employed 35000 people. That’s what we need…..good paying manufacturing jobs. Vote red
Roller skating rink as well as ice rink
Manufacturing city, my grandma lives here
