Hats off to you! Most of the time your using one hand to put the belts on, and the other hand to film. That is multi-tasking at its best. Great video. Thank you.
hey Dale I know this is pretty old now but you helped me before . I have a poulan pro 38" deck with a 13.5 briggs engine. i have been offered a briggs 18.9 it looks the same would it fit in my mower the mower it came out of was a 48" deck' Thanks again your friend from Australia . Nick
Hi It should fit. use the drive pulley from the bigger engine. I'm not sure of the wiring. It should be the same since they are both Briggs. I did an engine swap last year, Briggs 19.5 one cylinder to a Briggs 22 V twin. everything was the same except the muffler. good luck on the swap.
The spring and pulley shown at 3:45 is what tension the belt. If the belt is installed right and is the correct length when you engage the PTO lever it applies tension to the spring and tightens the belt. There is a diagram on the deck or on the under side of the running board that shows how to rap the belt around the pulleys.
@@DaleHobbs39 Hi Dale, what if you "engage" the blades with the lever but the blades don't spin and the belt feels loose? It appears to be routed correctly according the the diagram on the deck. Does that just mean the belt is old and stretched out? I can see the belt tensioner pulley move back and forth when I move the engagement lever. Thank you!
I have a belt and I can't get it on the engine pulley. The belt is just too short. There's no way the belt would ever be loose on the engine pulley if I did manage to get it on. The belt I ordered was supposed to be the right one. Back to the drawing board!
Sometimes that happens. I have a Tactor Supply close by so I can trade up till I get a belt that fits. Make sure the idler pullies are in the right position, that can make the right belt seem short. Thanks for watching and good luck.
@@DaleHobbs39 I measured the new belt against the old worn belt and the new belt is 3" shorter than the old belt was. The old belt is loose but it's not that loose. I can get the old belt on and off no problem so I'm pretty sure I'm doing it right. I watched your video and I put it on the engine pulley last. King Kong couldn't get that new belt on. The deck belt is worn but the only reason I wanted to change it was because I had to change the drive belt so I figured while I was in there just do them both. You try to do the right thing and this is what you get.
@@1pcfred That is a lot smaller. I'll measure around the outside of the old belt, and get one that is an inch shorter. Unless the customer wants an OEM belt then I'll try to order the right one. That could take a week or more. I have a stack of belt that are the wrong size.
I not sure off the top of my head. I would need the mower's model number to look it up. Sometimes a used belt stretches so it measures long. If you look up the part number it may have the true length. My local store only sells belts by the inch. If the true size is say 98 1/2 inch, then I get the next size down, 98 inch. Thanks for watching.
This question is for my pushing mower, I feel like I did everything, cleaning the carburetor and fuel line et al, my Craftsman/Honda is still starting and dies 15 seconds later, what is the problem?
@@harbinguy1 I would start by checking the gas cap vent. Start the mower with the cap loose. If it stays running that's your problem. Next I would check the screen in the bottom of the tank.
Hi Dale its Nick from Australia. You helped me with the deck belt size on the the poulon pro 38inch. I have another problem with the same machine. the rear wheels are tilting in at the top. I took the wheel of and it looks like the dive shaft and have worn the casing and made the hole oval. any ideas? Is there a bearing just inside the shaft hole the keep the shafts straight. without having to renew the back end assembly .is there anyway to fix this cheap. im in the process of pulling it out. if you get this can you get back to me. Thanks again Dale
I have a 38inch cut poulman pro 13hp ride on and am trying to find the cuting belt size can anyone help with the belt size been to mower shops and no one can work it out.
Sometimes there is a table under the hood that has a list of part numbers the air filter, oil filter and such. The engine has its own model number. I have searched pictures on line and found model numbers.
Thank you for a helpful video! I haven’t gotten it all the way on yet but your video has been helpful and I’ve not given up yet! I am hopeful anyway. 🙂👍🏼
I have a Poulan pro PP19A42 has the same problem broke both spindles. Replaced both spindles, both Pulleys, both blades and a new belt. It is still shaking bad and sometimes it dies when engaging the deck. Got any advice?
Joe & Katie Uvalle Hi Joe & Katie I would check the rest of the pulleys on the deck, could be a bad bearing. Everything should spin with no effort. Then I would check the balance of the blades. When you engage the deck make sure the engine is at cutting speed, you may hear a little squeal when it first starts up. Good luck and thanks for watching.

How do you adjust the belt tension for the deck belt on this mower. When I engage mine it’s not super tight.
