Kunnon meininkiä, tuo kahvi oli kiva :-) Markku Hyttiselle: Joskus viime vuosituhannella RAUK:n näytöksessä teltta pystyyn, savut piipusta (ei annettu kahvia) ja purku: Aika 18s. Teltassa oli narut nurkissa, mutta kiilat oli valmiiksi maassa. "Jokunen" kerta harjoiteltiin. Joten pystytyksen osalta en myönnä videolla olevaa Suomen ennätykseksi, kahvin kanssa saattoi ollakin :-)

Of-course its a bit of a humorous spectacle, but it IS the Finnish army. They train, and have for at least the last 100 years trained, hard - and are an army to respect. This is the army that gave the Soviets a hard time twice in the 1940s. Won one lost one but didn't give up easy. If you think the current recruits hsve a hard time because it's a bit cold then locate the video somewhere here on YT where recruits must take a winter bath in an opening in an ice-covered lake. One cool thing that is sometimes done is to arrange a "field sauna". Raise a tent like the one in the video. Get the steam generator from the cooking detail. Lead the steam hose into the tent. After 15 minutes you have a sauna for 20 soldiers. Not a joke or a gimmick. Keeping warm in winter is much easier if you are clean.
You dont wanna wash your face or ears or youll get frostbite or cracked lips more easily. The natural grease that your skin develops helps against it. Ofc you can use a synthetic one but hey, why bother.:)

At the end, S1 mumbled that he has been given VMTL, which translates to being released from marching, battle and sports exercises due to health reasons. It is a common thing in the finnish army to go to the doctor to get VMTL so you don't need to do anything, and those who do that (usually without any real need) don't get a lot of respect for it. So, the corporal shouts for someone to carry the man, and S2 is audibly annoyed.

It is interesting and unique experience, but it is harsh during the "recruit phase" meaning first 8 weeks. Doesnt get easy after it either. I enjoyed my time there even though there were many hardships, kind of miss the funny parts too.
