You definitely need to rebuild the entire cooling system at 100k, not expensive if you do it yourself and order the parts on Rockauto. and it's really not that hard. The weird thing about BMW radiator hose connections, is that they snap on with these snap ring and o-rings, no hose clamps. I usually put a little RTV in there, just for good measure. And the water pump is just 4 bolts, and it includes the thermostat. Be sure to use the Euro coolant, not the usual Prestone green stuff. Zerex European blue works great and not hard on your wallet

No it's not. Maintaince is no different than any other car. Just have to find a small repair shop that specializes in bimmers and allow to take car of the the simple to moderate repairs.
