For what I've understood, It's possible to simulate a non newtonian flow within sediment transport, with movable bed? I mean, to compute the erosion and deposition on the bed caused by a non newtonian flow.
Yes...it is not an advertised feature but we are working on it and have not disabled it. If you just add non-Newtonian parameters and use the mobile bed tools, both should work (though we are still experimenting with how we should pass the NN shear components into the sediment model, and the transport functions in RAS now are not designed for NN). Make sure you also turn on "Hindered settling" in the mobile bed model. You can also do "concentration only" modeling with NN to get an intermediate, dynamic concentration result, but we are working on new features that will make this much stronger.
Hi Stanford - When generating a shear stress results layer in RAS Mapper the units in the Shear Stress legend appear to be psi. However, the values that I'm seeing would appear to more likely be in psf. Is this possibly an issue in 6.3.1? I'm suggesting that the units incorrectly display as psi when they should be psf.
Calibration and validation are big topics. Some of the tools I use are available direct in RAS, others are coming and for now I post process RAS results with R, MatLab or Python. I'll eventually do videos on this, but it will be a while. I do have an unpublished document that discusses 1D sediment calibration. If you'd like a copy you can reach out to me on LinkedIn
Thanks for your time explaining 2D Sediment in HEC-RAS.
Good stuff Stan! Any ballpark anticipation of when the 6.2 version will be out and about?

@@stanfordgibson Glad to know. I'm trying to model erosion and deposition caused by tailing dam collapse, so it will be very usefull

Yeah, we fixed this for 6.4. Units are psf
Sir, is there any method to do calibration and validation of 2D sediment transport modeling in hec ras ??
