    Interesting to see your setup! I have the camera right in front of my face, peering over the top of it. I use a 24mm lens to get very close focus, and no monitor. I just have to remember to never, ever move my left hand, haha.

    These are great tips. Audio differences between talking-head and b-roll bits is a huge pet peeve of mine, too.

    I don't expect you to see this but in case you do; Thanks. Towards the end of lockdown I started content creation and even though I saw this video when it originally came out, I didn't think to re watch it until now. I spent so long trying to be just like everyone else that I didn't realize my best video came from when I forgot to act and was just myself...You inspired me a lot back on Back Yard Effects and to think all these years later your still teaching me new tricks. Thanks for always being true to yourself when your on camera.

    Jesus TF Christ! Your videos have everything I could have ever hoped for; Physics, black metal, Star Trek TOS, Photography, and something about miniatures. Thank you for being on point and not shallow like the majority of other TH-cam personalities!

    Scottastic! Man, I appreciate videos like this. For the past 3 years, I've been wingin' it. Never used a script, and never even used an outline until just recently. The most cumbersome part of this whole TH-cam thing for me was when I was essentially shooting a bunch of b-roll, then piecing it all together in the edit to give it some kind of flow. Bigtime chore.
    Lately I've gone with the idea of following a narrative outline, and shooting specifically for that. I also find that it helps to take the shots of the day (my filming usually drags on through the week) and edit those, while they're fresh in my mind, since I don't really make shot logs/notes.
    I really like your approach to voiceover. I've been hesitant to change too much about my show, because people seem to really like the spontaneity of it. But I think you've got it down! You're exceptional at this stuff.
    The other thing you've inspired me to do is to go on ahead and rig up a monitor, instead of relying on my camera's little LCD and focus peaking. :)

    I’m so inspired by this video. I have a fledgling TH-cam channel. I just hit my 1st hundred subscribers. I struggle with feeling washed out by a negative comment. A video can do amazing and the community can love it and one negative can derail your whole opinion of your work. I hoped to pick up a tip or two from this video, but you really spoke to me when you said just to be yourself and that will gain you your most loyal followers. Thank you, that really helps.

    This video was amazing! As a player, a painter and a game store business owner I have been working on my own Videography as a side hobby. So recently I have been watching a lot of video's on that but those are from professional point of views. Listening to you explain how you do your own Videography from a "personal view" rather then a business view was so much better then listening to some one rattle off brand name mics and cameras, and you have to buy this stand and this light etc etc etc. Then to have you follow up and give the greatest tip that has nothing to do with equipment and that is just be your self as if your around your friends, that has always scared me cause the instant you do something out there the trolls jump you and eat you alive this is the internet. On the other side of that coin thow you get the super fans. Sorry man din't mean to go into a evangelical your the best rant, Ill let you get back to painting :p thanks again and keep up the great work, Cant wait to listen to that podcast!

    But regarding that Dog barking etc. It might be a timesaver to look into Izotope's RX7 - it's on sale quite frequently at either Pluginboutique or Time+Space. It's a music production program that lets you correct all kinds of things including background noise (clipping etc). You inspired me to get into miniature painting... maybe I can inspire you into sound production ;-)

      I purposfully didn't put links in there as I don't want you to think I'm flogging you software. Just type it into Google search and you will find it easily enough. Maybe you can even do what you need with the very cheap 'Elements' version of the software

    A lot of youtube miniature hobbyists are making those "how are my videos made" videos. I think those videos are interesting and the common thing is that all of them are passionate about the act of video production itself.
    I teach people to paint in my city and some have suggested tat I make painting videos...but I dread the video editing part and all the light/camera/audio stuff. My answer for them is: if you are willing to film me and then edit the footage, I'll gladly be your "model" :) I am born to be in front of the camera, hehe :)

    • @Miniac
      @Miniac  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Depends entirely on your light and how bright it is. Some rules of thumb are that your shutterspeed should be 2x your frame rate so if you're a shooting at 30 fps, a shutter speed of 1/60 or close it, and your ISO should be close to your native ISO for your camera which for the gx85 I think it's 400. These are starting points, you need to adjust based on your situation.

    Hey Miniac, thanks for always making awesome content! Just thinking shooting for hours or painting would chew through SD cards? Thanks again!

    Now we need a tutorial about how you made this video!

  • @KyrstensCloset
    @KyrstensCloset 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why do you use the GH5 for recording over the GX85 that you use for streaming? Could you use the GX85 for recording as well?
    I had been hoping to use a 60D I had from a previous business venture, but even with quality lighting it is clearly not up to the task. I did some test videos but it just wasn't usable.
    I'd like to avoid going too crazy in these investments, but I also recognize that quality production is exceptionally important in this situation.
    Edit: My background involves a decade+ in commercial photography, but when it comes to video I'm pretty clueless.
