    Nice guide. Do you have to have a vpn service to use open vpn, or can you use it without the base vpn?

      Right. I don't like that the only thing Google shows is through a provider

    What is the point of hosting open vpn server in our machine. It will use same ISP as my machines right.

      If the OpenVPN server was at your house then the benefits would be 1, you would use the VPN for tunneling your traffic out of insecure WiFi when you’re not located at that same location. 2 you could use the VPN to access other servers at your house for administrative purposes even while you’re not there. If your goal was to change your location while at home similar to like express vpn, you could install an OpenVPN server on a cloud server like Linode or digital ocean and tunnel your traffic from your home and out of your cloud virtual private servers IP located somewhere else .. effectively hiding the traffic from your home isp.

    Thanks for the upload but you need to breathe man, it seems as if you got your presentation on a timer and barely keeping up with it!

      Fast better than slow imo. With fast you can pause. Most of the time I have to turn up the playback speed on these tutorials because they talk way too slow.

    Why UDP?

    • @valensmann
      @valensmann 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually OpenVPN can use both but UDP is the default. The short answer as to why is that it offers better performance. You can read more about it here: hamy.io/post/0002/openvpn---tcp-or-udp-tunneling/

    OpenVPN was the only driver that did not install on my windows install now looking at how complex this looks... one should not be playing with this! per say i get to it and mess it up, what happens if i cannot go online after to look for the info i need to fix the problem... hence why this seems scary at first...
    i wonder if there are applications for dummies or smart people but that do not know how the concept works? like click on a setting, then a destination and it is good to go!
    1st thing one wants a VPN is for protection against DATA interception.
    2nd thing would be to seem to be coming from some where else.
    those 2 simple things should be a 1 click kind of deal (well maybe more but you get the idea ;P )
    3rd thing would be those advanced use like remote PC or more corporate use... but if one uses those methods, they are educated on how and it is part of the employer training (should be at least! or maybe just a USB with a quick setup profile...)
    even if i only game... what would make me trust that my password got to my steam account verification process without being intercepted? any how, a "free" VPN would not hurt!

    What is openVPN and what does it do and how do you set it up? I don't know.... But it seems to have something to do with getting in one line to bash the alphabet.....
    Seriously... If I was already a network tech, I wouldn't be on youtube trying to figure this stuff out.....

    • @DelawareBMX
      @DelawareBMX  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      OpenVPN is a tool, just like a hammer can be used to assemble or disassemble things. What more specifically are you trying to figure out?

    • @lpburke86
      @lpburke86 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DelawareBMX What it does, that its purpose is, why you would use OpenVPN over something like NordVPN, what it wont do, How to set it up,, etc.... You know... things any normal person expects in something named "OpenVPN Presentation".
      All things you may have explained in the video, but once you started talking a million miles a minute, and threw out ten million acronyms that you don't know unless you have a Cisco or CompTIA certification.... You lost me.

    Very informative video, just a couple of suggestions to improve your presentations from an IT instructor, slow down a little to give the viewer some time to absorb what you are saying between topics and I would recommend not swirling your pointer around all over the slide deck as we to are trying to figure out what you are referring too. Other than that the content and information was outstanding.

    Ok here is a challenge for you guys in the comment that say you totally get this. Go set up an Open VPN server not an Open VPN access server.

    Just bouncing around with no clear idea of what is to be explained or what you'll learn. Kind of a waste of time.

    Thank you but... Please, mouse movements are too distracting; similar effect to watching someone's video where they constantly zoom, pan and have camera movement. Had to stop watching before losing breakfast; a shame, because the content was quite good. You're not alone... so many content creators seem to not appreciate how movements that are natural to the creator (because they are creating and are generating the moves), in effect, generate motion sickness for the viewers. When movements must be made, they should be planned, deliberate and kept to a minimum.
    But thanks again, I did glean some useful info before having to turn off.

      All the “uh’s” and “um’s” were distracting too. Good content though. Thumbs up.
