    I'd say this is the best representation of current racism. The point of the video was not to side with the black man or the white man but rather to accept that both sides aren't completely wrong, yet the emotion and tension between them can create biased beliefs and twisted truths, which is the sole cause of all this conflict. This is the raw stuff that really drives the message home, and you really have to think about it with an objective perspective. I'm glad these reactors understood the importance of the video setting these two sides face to face and spill all their problems to each other. Almost all other reactions ended up immediately blocking off and denying the white man's verses within the first line and rooting for the other. That is, for lack of better explanation, precisely what continues to fuel this conflict.

    Thank you for this reaction. I am really sorry, you seemed so uncomfortable while the white guy was rapping, you smiled the first time when the black guy was rapping.
    As a black person, i see some real truths in both their raps, it was an aggressive, unapologetic, deep rap. Thanks for your reaction =)

      Same. I’m black too. And I saw both truths and faults in both verses. It just sad that a lot of people missed it by automatically demeaning the white guy racist and wrong, and the black guy right and just.
      Just like white people as a people and black people as a people we are both right and wrong when it comes to this topic but most can’t see that for some reason.

    As someone who is open-minded and has seen this video many times, I'm glad to see that there are some reactors who see the truths and the stereotypes from both sides. Personally I think it's all a matter of perspective, experience, and empathy.
    If you have never been in a car while being a black citizen then you can't know what it's like, but you can at least show empathy by putting yourself in that person's shoes even though you haven't experienced it yourself.
    But that's exactly what we, as a nation, seem to be lacking; empathy. Majority of each side is not showing remorse for what the other is going through which makes it seem like they don't care because "it's not their problem".
    It sucks, but that's the world we live in. We can't rewrite it, all we can do is change. If not that, then adapt.

  • @LDMco
    @LDMco 6 ปีที่แล้ว +465

    8:00 you guys are exactly right about the two extremes. Both perspectives are supposed to be those of the radicals in the US, as it started off middle and works its way to the extremist point of view on both sides. Great reaction :)

      Radical centrists are truly the most idiotic amongst us.

    • @roddo1955
      @roddo1955 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or, you could stick to your own view of the song. Songwriters write songs for the listener to interpret. Now, the writer might have had his own take on it but it still leaves it open to interpretation for every listener. The writer is not the two people in the video or the lyrics: he is expressing two possible interpretations on what certain people might think from his point of view.That's the whole point of the song: different people will have different views on the same issues. But those issues will not get resolved when one focuses on proving how one view is right and the other is wrong.
      I like to think that the reason for releasing this song, was to show people an example of a novel way of resolving an issue: By listening without prejudice, judgment or ego. In the end, EVERYBODY wants to be heard and everybody should. So start listening and have the favor returned to you.

    It's interesting to get more perspective from people outside the US on things like this. I think living in the US, we don't realize how crazy some of this stuff seems to you guys until we see the expressions come out. Racism is very alive here. I am white, but grew up in a poor neighborhood with black friends, and every single day I saw this sort of stuff. I've seen my black friends get pulled over for doing nothing, had cops ask me why I was hanging out with black kids because it was a bad influence on me.
    Just know that not all of us condone this sort of thing. When I see racism, I call it out, no matter who is using it, but we have an entire political party that has intertwined itself with religion and regional pride movements to entrench that kind of racism here. We are very much a divided country, and because many people have lost the ability to communicate and empathize with each other, those divides are getting worse.
    We don't have the answers to these problems. I wish that our leaders would look to other countries who have done better (such as the UK) and see what we can change to make the situation better. Maybe it's just going to take time. People forget that it's only been a couple hundred years since slavery was outlawed here. On the timeline of human history, those wounds are still fresh.

    I think you guys may be the first or second reaction to this song that had the same realization that I had - that both characters in this song have some valid, if misguided, points to make amidst the racist itrades, and that both characters show signs of racism towards the other. No one's 100% in the right on this topic, but in the US you're either completely right or completely wrong with some groups of people. Maybe being from the UK gives you an advantage with the outsiders' perspective. Not a lot of people in my country seem willing or able to handle the idea that a person can be right about some things while being generally wrong, and it makes having a real conversation about serious topics almost impossible.

    • @EastAfricanWarrior
      @EastAfricanWarrior 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this is correct but it’s also always going to be more distasteful when coming from a white person. The majority will never receive the same empathy the minorities get. And if we read just how bad blacks people were treated, it makes you believe that one side has done more objective damage then the other. There is no metric that would equate black racism to white racism in terms of impact on society, not on how rude it can be.

    • @EastAfricanWarrior
      @EastAfricanWarrior 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It’s impossible to have a conversation with white people who won’t even admit that racism and prejudice is a very large reason there is a socioeconomic gap between us. We can start a conversation with someone unwilling to admit reality first. White privileged is real. It’s just worded badly. Should be called black disadvantage instead to illustrate how it really works.

    • @vfaulkon
      @vfaulkon 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@EastAfricanWarrior I definitely agree with you there on both points. A conversation is a two-way street, and if one side isn’t willing to even consider the other’s perspective, it’s just a frustrating waste of time. Also, you and I are of the EXACT same mind about ‘white privilege’ being more like ‘black disadvantage’.
      As for a white person's view on the issue being more distasteful, I get it, and I can live with it, but like I said, the conversation is a two-way street. My opinion may lack a black person's perspective and thus not have the same weight, but I don't think that makes it invalid or beneath consideration. It's tricky, because the situation has both a personal and a cultural element to it, and you can't disregard either; I'm both a white person and someone who's less racist than some other white people, so I'm both part of and not part of that group.
      I'm also some random shmuck on the internet, so who knows how valid any of this is. XD

    just to point out at the end of the white guy line he said "its like we live in the same building but split into two floors" he still saying one race is above the other
    but at the end of the black guy line he said "its like we living in the same building but split in two both sides"
    he's saying we equal we just have to accept the part we play on each side

    America is a very different place socially than the UK. Though not unlike England's relationship with Ireland. And Scotland? Maybe Scotland? Not sure, seems like it'd be a thing. Similar with race relations here in the States. One major difference being more domestic rather than international. Scale wise, but just as volatile. Sometimes less, sometimes more. It's crazy.

    Most Americans do not see the world this way. This song is vital to keep the topic on the tips of the tongues of people who run our country. both sides of our political system use race relations to push their platforms. Its sad and pathetic. as our older generations die off their ideals will fade.. i pray. I am proud to be living on a world with all of you.

    Gentlemen, this is the first video I've ever watched with you two in it. I have watched DOZENS of reactions to this video and BY FAR this is the greatest one I have seen! You guys take a neutral stance and dissect what the true meaning is behind the video! You even touched on how the points have little truths in them but still hold a bit of inaccuracy and I think that is key to understanding this song! I'm subscribing and cannot wait to dive into your other videos! Freaking fantastic guys! Not sure if you will even read this but thought I'd take the time to show my appreciation anyways haha

    Joyner lucas has three modes. Attack, fun and Deep His attack song give him respect but his deep songs make up most of his songs. I'm sorry is why him and logic are at each other's throats. He put out that song about suicide with his mixtape with a number and a year later logic came out with a song about suicide with a number then joyner went on attack mode.

    Hi I live in Oklahoma. I am mother of two children 24 and 15. I am scared to death about what their future looks like. But I'm also very hopeful about others who think as I do. I will give out free hugs daily. This song makes me cry every time. Simply because it's raw emotion. The strongest stereotypes of each race being voiced with truth in both. What stands out to me most is how both sides wish for the same things a good life, providing for their family in a safe world. I was in military and that has been one place where different races, cultures, economic status we all got along. Stood with each other. Uplifting instead of downgrading each other. We we're family. I hope this song/ statement can get more to be willing to sit and really listen to another humans struggles, pain, hopes and dreams. In America it's a scary place. Bullying is out of bounds. The only thing that will save us is compassion and empathy. Strength in numbers who want this country to not only survive but thrive so we can have a better world to leave our children. Didn't mean to get on my soap box but this has always struck me directly in the heart. Humankind needs to be more kind to humans .period one race the human race.
