    I wish the government extended this line to it’sintended Randwick Junction, as it was originally planned. But due to financial constraints, the stopped at Bondi Junction.

    Hi Phil, great video. My first train trip to Bondi Junction was way back in 1979, just after the line officially opened. Incidentally, how far does the tunnel go east of Bondi Junction? All the very best, Robert.

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      RGC198 The Eastern Suburbs Line actually celebrates its 40th anniversary this July. I’m actually shocked it’s THAT old.

    • @RGC198
      @RGC198 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wow!! It only seems like yesterday since it opened. Time certainly flies. I remember about three days after the ESR opened there was a train strike, though the ESR wasn't affected and continued to run. Apart from the new line to Bondi Junction at the time coming through Town Hall, the station was otherwise completely empty that day.

    Oh, if only I went to Bondi Junction, I could have actually seen you! So close! However, I did see T72 and T106 under test again. I saw them go past at Sutherland when I was walking from the station to the nearby Coles supermarket. I only knew it was them because I saw an active LED destination indicator on the rear.

    Hey Phil, is there any way of checking if any S sets are running?
    I have heard of AnyTrip, but I've also heard that it's quite unreliable when it comes to detecting S sets

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pacman 1234 The best place to see S sets is on the Carlingford Line, since I’ve mostly seen one running over there on most weekdays. Same for the Lidcombe to Olympic Park shuttle services.

  • @v666fromhell6
    @v666fromhell6 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Obviously they won’t be able to run 10-car sets on the T4 Line (Redfern - Bondi Junction) due to short platforms, they will have to terminate at Central intercity platforms I’m guessing.

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      V666 From Hell I’m betting that the new intercity D Set (at least that’s I’ve heard their set code will be) will most likely have to terminate at Central intercity because a 10 car configuration won’t be able to fit the Eastern Suburbs line stations due to as you said, short platforms. This longer configuration will also see a lot more stations added to the short platforms list and others changed due to the extra carriages.
      Sad thing is, the Eastern Suburbs section will become completely run by Tangaras because of this, much like how Tangaras are completely the only thing you see on the Cronulla branch.
      I’m also guessing SP8 will have to be introduced as a short platform category. This will include several suburban stations currently serviced by intercity trains, such as Strathfield, Epping, Hornsby, Blacktown, Penrith, Wolli Creek, Hurstville and Sutherland likely finding themselves in the new SP8 category, as they can only fit 8 cars. Parramatta may be the exception, as the platforms there are longer than a 8 car suburban train.

  • @michaelgoodwin1239
    @michaelgoodwin1239 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If only they had completed the Eastern Suburbs Line thru Randwick to Kingsford..

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Michael Goodwin Then again, Randwick and Kingsford are serving as terminus points for the new Light Rail line. Bondi Junction station also has access to buses for connecting with parts of the Eastern Suburbs anyway.

    • @michaelgoodwin1239
      @michaelgoodwin1239 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, totally agree with you, the Light Rail makes up for most of the shortfalls of not completing the ESL and the East still has a fairly good bus network based off the old pre 1960 tram network.

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Michael Goodwin I regularly have used buses in the Eastern Suburbs and most of the time they do tend to be reliable. Most of those Eastern Suburbs buses tend to start and end at Bondi Junction anyway, and with its major bus interchange directly above the station, it allows easy interchange between trains and buses. It also helps when you consider that Bondi Junction runs notable high-patronage services like 333 to Bondi Beach and to the City, and 400 serving as a link between the north and south parts of the Eastern Suburbs, such as Eastgardens, Randwick and Kingsford. Bondi Jn also runs services linking with other major Eastern Suburbs beaches like Coogee and Maroubra.

    • @peppycap6686
      @peppycap6686 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! imagine if it continued through the suburbs to mascot via Randwick, Coogee, Maroubra ect

      They do stop at those stations and I've heard the DVAs skip announcing those stations before myself but apparently, they're only 'Pick Up Only' stations but people still get off there and no one even cares. If you look on TripViewLite, then you'll find it saying that or at least thats what I found

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      xILachlanYT That S set was likely filling in for another set, likely a K set or Waratah. S sets only got removed from timetabled service on that line, so they can sometimes show up in place of something else.

    I like tangara

  • @alis1637
    @alis1637 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Question: when the tangaras (and C sets) are braking, is that noise caused by the couplers or is it the electronic brakes?

    • @nicholetheotter1957
      @nicholetheotter1957 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alik S It’s their brakes. Those sounds you hear on Tangara T sets and C sets is because they use a type of electric motor known as a “chopper control” motor. That’s basically why they make those whiny sounds when they pull in or depart from a station.
