I was pretty pissed when I found out that the triggers on this module have to be held high for 20msec or more. so you basically have to dedicate an additional envelope to each trigger. Bad design in the extreme. Plus the firmware is insanely buggy.
Sir Mylar, I have to say.....I was totally geeked to see you posted a new video While rubbing my eyes to get up and take a friend to the detroit airport at 3:30 in the morning......you totally made my drive home in the super cold weather enjoyable. I’m a hugh fan. I have been following you almost a year. You are the pillor that holds up my head every time I look at my growing system. I’m not afraid to say.... you put me to bed almost every night listening to your TH-cams.....of late your one hour jam on the grove box has been imbedded in my brain while I sleep with head phones.....ok, enough already , you get the idea......who do I make the check too ? If you reply I guess I gotta get involved and put you on my payroll. ....it’s in your court now brother ....... peace, Ep
I agree. It’s a lot of quantizing power for the hp, but it is one of the modules I have the manual on hand next to my rack. It’s been a few months working with it, but I expect a few more to master the menus. As always, your demo represents the module perfectly.
Thanks for the Demo, really appreciated! Bought a beautiful black one and the manual is not the best to wrap my old brain around the 207. But I love it already :)
What a great video my friend! Through and through fantastic! I've been so interested in ADDAC modules; mainly their mysterious quality and heavy cost. I remember when I started seeing em on eBay. It's like these super HQ modules came out of nowhere! I mean wow... They might be better than I expected! Really great module, fantastic system, great recording and an interesting teacher to boot! Good day my friend!
Nice tip on using a clock divider to make sequences more coherent! You can get some really awesome sequences out of the Turing Machine but they don't quite have the groove I'm sometimes looking for. This will sort that out though!
I totally like to see this concept applied to a TM as cv generator and MI Grids as Trigger generator and some, slow free running LFO on the Grid Pattern inputs. And have it just run it for a while, seeing what comes of it.
Thanks for this great video! There is one function I'd like to see a thorough demonstration on with this module and it is the [ASSIGN] input, which seems to have been renamed to [TRANSPOSE]. I would LOVE to see a simple video that explains how to set it up so you can transpose chords, but as you say the menu is incredibly confusing. Please persevere and explain it to me as if I were 5?
So in your opinion is there a practical (& low) limit to how many quantisers you can practically use in a modular, or are they the sort of thing that you can discover endless new uses for beyond their original brief?
Finally have one of these -it arrived yesterday… but tbh I'm still a bit confused about what quantizers are capable of … I owned a QUANTIMATOR which actually sends C/V to VCOs to play predetermined scales to VCOs (or triad chords to 3 VCOs) can the ADDAC 207 do that too or is it just meant to quantize incoming C/V from a sequencer or other source?
9:00 is where I got lost. I was unclear of what was being demonstrated. It is difficult to give instructions without playing the module, but if what you are playing is difficult to listen to, the message does not get across. It was quite useful for me till then. It looks like every quantizer is different beyond their most basic function.
Thank you for this video! Recently received one and man, not so intuitive for me. I'm having difficulty getting it to stay within the few notes i'm selecting. It seems to be jumping an octave up for a few notes. Any idea how to tame this thing? I've combed the manual and am fully stumped!
Attenuate your source, and you should be fine! Looks like it quantises voltages to the selected notes in whatever octave they come in. (ie, if 0.1v is quantised to C1, then 1.1v would be C2, an octave up) So just constrain your source voltage to within 1 volt if you wanna keep it in the same octave.
Another great video! I agree, great module, but not really "intuitive". I haven't even tried transpositions and circling through your scales with that tiny input...using mine mostly for chord/diatonic modes. And I think I noticed a bug: without a "gate in" it will behave like a classic wild quantizer, with a gate in it becomes much more coherent as you said, but once you unplug "gate in" again it won't fire off back?
When you unplug the gate in you need to wait 60 seconds and then it will be back as the classic quantizer. You can Also reset this for each voice inndependently holding Gate Length(F) and the voice to reset C=1, C#=2, D=3,D#=4!
Only problem with this module is the *incredibly* small writting on the panel: I am an old fart, so I need to put a magnifying glass in front of anything made by ADDAC :)
LOL True Steve - how about MOOG have your flashlights handy for that back panel black on black on instrument MIDO i/o (another pet peeve I especially LOVE 4ms very legible panels best in euro but even ADDAC's tiny text is a lot better than Harvestman's Cyrillic or MakeNoise inscrutable scrawls where even a magnifying glass won't help LOL
@@jedgould5531 Hi Jed: yea I actually do have two Disting EX modules (and a couple of mk2's and a mk4) - but generally I have the EX's set up; one for drums and the other for multi-sample, the mk4 for tape delay. So once I have stared into abys of the incredibly small screen for set-up, I can pretty much leave them alone :) Thank god. I've mentioned to os of expert sleepers that I (and probably a lot of others) would love to have a dual Disting EX with a nice big screen! Even at double the money it would be awesome. My suggested name was the Disting Mothership .... let's see if it happens :)
"you kind of can't fail" do you use this technique for recording as well or just for live? it can be a bit hard to adjust for the excitement of magically summoning music out of the void when it comes time to scrutinize and make choices for a record.
i was really looking forward to know if u could have different scales in the 4 different section at once. E.G minor on out 1, pentatonic on out 2 etc..etc... probably yes, but not in a intuitive way ;)
Thanks for the video: ace! Your modular tutorials are just the best. Any other pros/cons between the ADDAC and O_C as Quantizers beyond the obvious (ADDAC: 1 octave keyboard; O_C: cheaper, more versatile, independent scales per voice)?
electricdove 1 Yeah it’s a bit of a balancing act, the intuitive quant is much faster to operate live, and interactive in the way you can quickly change scales and fine tune them in real time - O_C is menu based and slow to set up, but powerful too once that setup is done. But you wouldn’t want to adjust scales live at a gig on an O_C to be fair
Quartermain is an awesome quad quantizer. It doesn't have gate outputs which in my opinion are very fun and handy. Check out the doepfer a-156 tutorials for a good look at this feature
Very cool. Just a quick question, do you ever get paid by eurorack manufacturers/distributors/anyone in the industry to make these demos? Again, very good demo, but I was just wondering that, since it seems like the kind of thing they would pay for if they aren't.
He's cooking up a new batch at the moment! I think the menu system can be tricky to get to grips with, and really does require you print the manual and keep it handy, which isn't to everyones tastes (I don't love that personally). But it's still very capable and unique in having four channels and quick change for scales - and you could ignore most of the functions and use it as a simple quantizer with four simultaneous channels, which is how I use it mostly
mylarmelodies thanks I will be on the lookout. I’m just looking for the 4x quantizer aspect I it to keep some patches all in the same notes. None of the cord stuff or transpose.
Hey mylarmelodies, is the new batch different at all from the current? Your video was fantastic and makes we want it, but I've heard a fair bit about firmware glitches. Any news/insight on that situation?
The latest Firmware is supposed to clear up most of the issues people have had. I have a used one on the way so will be able to test that out myself. Crappy thing is I have to order an ADDAC firmware update kit. From ADDAC themselves. It's cheap, but, the shipping wont be.
Thank you for choosing the modules for me. Now I know which quantizer I'll buy.
ADDAC is such a friendly company. All their modules are so well designed also!
indeed

Ha thanks so much Eric, much love! There's a full audiobook in my Patreon - perfect for bedtime stories :3 x
Done :) i was looking for a module with large quantizers possibilities and this keybaord with various use is really nice, thanks for this video
The lens flare from 19:48 onwards pleases me greatly ❤
Helios-44 in action if I recall correctly!
Garbage in, music out. I need one of these 😆

9:30 Proper electro sequence! Nice!
Was waiting for you to knock out the Roobarb and Custard theme tune @ 6:00.
I’ve been comparing quantizers and I keep gravitating towards this one. It seems the ADDAC207 is the easiest to learn and most functional to employ.
It's bigger than the uScale, but looks so much more intuitive!

Hey! You should show us euclidean circles! You have it but have never made a video of it!
I agree. Euclidean Circles looks yummy
Wow Any way I can download the song at 16:50 and play it for my radio show? I feature Modular music and synth punk!
I want an hour of that last jam
fantastic review brah thx
Great demo cheers
I wonder if it has the synthi/ems standard?

i want this so badly
do you have to follow the vco setup form the manual everytime you turn on the modular system and use the quantizer or is it just the first time?
Christmas came early!

I'm sorry, but why is that module installed upside down? I HAVWE QUESTIONFQWEIHG
could you assign different scales or octaves per output?
No, unfortunately just one scale at a time shared across all outputs
cool, thanks for the info. Stil very useful module, i think i will order one. :)
does not !
Is it possible to use it with Metropolis?
Can you plug audio in that you've already made and quantize it, or just voltages that trigger audio v/o?
JubileeGiggles of course not audio.
Sooooooooo, which case do you use again? (great stuff btw) oh and how do you manage to get 4 different sequence speeds out of one sequencer?
DJ Free That’s a Ginko Synthese DIY case! And the sequencer is a Z8000, you can clock each sequence lane at different rates
Hi! How do you power the case? It doesn't come with PSUs, does it?
"you kind of can't fail"

Kevin Kyyro Both. And well that’s the real skill - judging which happy accident is the best.
Hey mylarmelodies, where can I buy one of these? I’ve been looking al over the place
ADDAC are about to do a new big batch of them I believe - I'd drop em a line or ask your nearest shop to check in on that?
So. It's been a couple of years. Are you still using this module in your system?
I’m not using any quantisers in my live system (see recent videos, Metropolis with built in quantiser) - still have it though
Are you still using the NTR? What is that whacky windsceeen?
Yep, it's a Kaotica Eyeball!
I wish it had CV input for which key its playing.
andrew sutliff It does!
I see that now! The transpose input! That's awesome.
So, you could use this as a quantizised sample n hold? Interesting...
Yup.
Who makes that sea mine looking mult? I want to fidget it.
That's the Hosa Knucklebone!
why is your planar upside down?
Jamie Maule I'm guessing for easy access to the joystick.
TechTrouble made the mistake of commenting at the beginning of watching...
Jamie Maule What TechTrouble said! It actually comes with an inverted panel, not fitted it yet!
because its better to use that way & the thing comes with 2 faceplates for that reason
Wow! That is all.
This is very similar to the Flame Tame machine
So it’s auto tune for modular
Exactly!
