Also Tom, you want that compensation cycle because it may help reduce vertical banding in the 5-20% grey. My C3 had a fair bit of banding new out of the box and the very first compensation cycle after 4 hours of use took most of it away. I was surprised how well it worked after seeing no improvement in my old C8 after many cycles.
It's worth mentioning wrt the BEQ guys, they are absolutely eyeballing the correction and guessing what should have been in the mix, whether they believe it was there in the theatrical mix, or it was removed erroneously in mastering. There are definite examples of movies on streaming vs disks that have rolled off or limited LFE, which I think is somewhat a different issue with regards to streaming services applying their own compression. Regardless, BEQ is still absolutely subjective EQ deviating from artistic intent, and that's fine. You just need to be aware they will claim they are "restoring" something, which is absolutely not the case. They also have a rather severe obsession with imfrasonics, which is also boosted excessively using these shelf-filters, so you have to be sure you're employing good limiters on your subs to avoid damage.
The pioneer and onkyo are not the same . I had the pioneer vsx lx 505 and the onkyo rz 50 and it's a night and day difference in sound and processing of dtsx and atmos. I preferred the onkyo over the pioneer.

You didn't get to experience the baach system? I did and it's very good.
Congrats on the new TV Tom!
Is it now time for AV RANT host room tours???
