  • Our first day venturing into the Georgian Bay already has us HOOKED. The small craft channel is absolutely stunning, with millions of history all around you. The cottages are unique and our anchorage in Echo Bay, inside of Massasauga Provincial Park is everything we have been looking forward to.
    Thanks for watching!
    Cheers from the Loop,

    ABOUT US
    Hi! We are high school sweethearts from Atlanta, Georgia who decided to take a year off to travel around the world. Together we decided to create vlogs for our journey as a fun way to remember it. On September 15, 2019, we left Atlanta with 3 bags, 2 one-way tickets, and 1 goal of traveling for a whole year. Little did we know, 6 months later we would find ourselves in a nationwide lockdown in India. After spending 5 months in India, we came back to the United States and decided to purchase a 34’ Trawler, dive headfirst into boat life, and kick-off America’s Great Loop.
    The good, the bad, the ugly - and most importantly, the real and real funny. We’re not here to tell you “how it’s done.”, just how we’ve done it. And that whatever it is that’s calling you - the way you’ll do it is much more attainable than it may seem.
    Thank you for following us along our journey!

    Looks like a de Havilland DHC-2 Beaver at 13:05. We call this type of aircraft a "bush plane" as it was designed to land on small lakes to supply remote bush camps. The Beaver is arguably the best bush plane ever built.

    Met you at the Looperpalooza in Ft Myers, looks like the fun continues. My wife hated the spiders also and when we boated in the Great Lakes she would attach the Bounce dryer softeners to the lines when at the docks and this seemed to alleviate the spiders coming aboard. Could be all psychological but seemed to make her happy. Elliot is starting to sound like a Canadian, eh.

    So cool to view our home cruising grounds through your perspective. We take for granted the beauty of Georgian Bay but you remind us of what a great place it is. It looks like you anchored in Echo Bay North. I've never had the guts to go through the entrance as it has been inaccessible through the low water years. We have always just headed to Echo Bay South. You've inspired me to check it out this year. Great video production as always.

    When we boated in the Georgian Bay, Sans Souci Island only had the restaurant Chez Henri. I used to talk to him in French and given I help them put out the fire on the island, got him to go to the hospital in Perry Sound to treat the large open wound on his leg, we were always welcome and did not have to make a reservation. Great fish! I cannot believe how many boats there are now. 42 years ago we just about had the place to ourselves. One rule was important, get out of the Northern part of the Bay and the North Channel by the beginning of August. Notice how the trees are bent, that is due to the winds.

    To boat in Canada you need two things, Spider Spray and Konk 409, for mosquitoes inside to able to sleep at night, without the constant buzzing. Used 1 can a year to a year and half for 17 years, a small spray up front and one out back, totally food safe used in restaurants. It works so well that 1/2 hour later you need to sweep up the dead bugs. It does have a smell smell to it, made in Australia.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They will mark rocks with the main channel, but their are too many rivers, anchorages, off shoots, etc to mark every single rock in the water ways. Sometimes locals will put a empty bleach container on a pole to mark a rock, or simply in navionics there is a rock symbol. No matter what, we just go slow and keep an eye out 😁

  • @michelbedos9371
    @michelbedos9371 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why are you anchoring so far from the shore? There is plenty of depth. You were also looking for trouble if a boat passed between you and the shore.

    • @SchoandJo
      @SchoandJo  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We didn’t anchor too far from shore, there was a ton more room in the central part of the bay. Also our line was floating and bright orange so it’s very doubtful anyone would go that route. As this was our first time stern tieing as we mentioned so we gave it a bit more leeway that was required. If you want some of our next videos you will see us stern tie closer to shore.

    • @michelbedos9371
      @michelbedos9371 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SchoandJo Thank you for your reply. Also you may want to use a heavier line to tie off from the shore. We were stern tied off from shore several times when strong winds hit us in the middle of the night. Out of the boats there we were the only ones that did not have to do anything.

    Aside from informative videos, you guys know how to have fun and document it. Every video from when you began this trip from the south there is not one that I lost interest. Video pros now and boaters as well. You abide by local unwritten laws like not tying to trees. Things like that make you special. Although you are knowlege of all boating rules and regs, you never once sounded like know it alls. I watch alot of these videos because it was a big part of my life. There were many that I would say REALLY? and just skip to the next one. Not once with your videos and always look forward to your next one.
