To improve the Rachel, I would add the gold feet on the bottom; make the handles attach with gold loops rather than have the leather stick up as it attaches to the bag, and lastly add a gold loop outside on the main zipper pull. Love this bag!

I have that exact Rachel and a black Sydney, plus 3 non leather Sydneys and a non-leather Rachel. Love the general shape of them but the tan Rachel is my favourite for the reasons you gave. Also I am a tan bag girl-I have several different bags in that colour as well as a tan tote bag.
I also want to add that the brand new Sydneys they just came out with have TWO INTERIOR slip pockets and a zip interior pocket, but still only one exterior pocket

Yes! They are excellent quality! My daughter has borrowed mine off and on to use for school, and it still looks brand new. I’m such a stickler for good stitching, and they do a fantastic job. TFW!

I have other Fossil bags, and a couple of their watches. I am wanting to purchase both the Sydney, and Rachel 😁 for different reasons. In the planner world, the Sydney bag is very popular. That's what originally brought my attention to it. When you need the ability to open it up wide for planners and maybe a few supplies...I can see the Sydney working out better. For an EDC, I feel the Rachel may be a little better. So, again, thanks for your review. It really helps.
Here are different versions of the “original” Sydneys. The maroon (wine) color you have is more pebbly and squishy...same goes for the seaglass color. The other ones like the black, brown, camel, beige, etc have a stiffer leather which keeps their shape better. I love the rachel..it’s so functional and beautiful...I also love the Fiona satchel by Fossil. The handles feel stiff at first but once you’ve used it for a few days they soften up and are so soft and comfortable on your arm. However, the Fiona has the same inside set up as the Sydney where there is only one slip pocket (although it is larger than the Sydney slip pocket) and a zipper pocket. And it only has one pocket on the exterior which is horizontal instead of vertical. It’s a sleep looking bag so if you’re looking to switch it up a bit it’s a good alternative. Although you may not like it since it doesn’t have the features you like lol sorry for the long post :)

I can't remember what the deciding factor was :-) My dream purse is the Sydney Camel, so it's nice to hear that it is a little stiffer! I would love to get my hands on one...not giving up yet! I have two Sydney satchels, brown and maroon. My brown bag is definitely not floppy like the maroon one is. Actually, my brown has the exact same structure as your Rachel bag. I was surprised to see the difference in the two bags, the brown is definitely a firmer leather.

I would have kept the Sydney bag. It’s a fun color and the issues you had with the bag were slight. (I think it’s an older version as well so it wasn’t designed for the phones of today. 😊) Also, one outside pocket is a security feature. You can put the smooth side facing outward and the pocket side tucked up against you. Ease for you is also ease for people who want your IPhone. I’m glad your daughter loves it. ❤️
I love both of these. I had the Fiona and I liked it but the brown was too dull and the single pocket in the front and one on the inner side annoyed me as my car key kept going under. I have the Felicity satchel in black now and I LOVE it. I’m eyeing the Rachel but it’s still pricey so let’s see.
I know this bag is about the Rachel and the Sydney but I went to Macy’s last week and I couldn’t believe my eyes when saw a Rachel tote for $48 plus tax. It has a floral print. I’ve never seen a fossil bag for that cheap.

The pockets in front and back on the Rachel are very functional. I own 2 phones (Personal, Work) and use both for that reason but it's worth a mention that it kind of discombobulates the bag a bit.
I have the tan Rachel, and the maroon Rachel. I love them both they are my goto bag. I also have the non leather Sydney which I love but the Rachel's are a little bigger which is nice.

I have the tan Rachel bag that came out this year. The tan is such a beautiful caramel/camel color. If you love the color of the tan Sydney, maybe you can opt for the tan Rachel. I'm happy with my purchase. The bag is so functional.

I have to agree I have wanted a Sydney for so long and I found one pre-loved however it was so floppy , I too wouldn’t use the card slots and I just couldn’t deal! I like the Rachel better in your comparison. I have the Fiona, and it is structured like the Rachel, but it has one horizontal pocket rather than vertical it fits my iPhone x well. The inside pockets are the same as the Rachel. I would choose function over popular however I do like the leather on the Sydney; I think the flop would get old after awhile. I think the Fiona is a little bigger than the Sydney as well. The multiple card slots in the Sydney would be useless for me and a waste of space.
I bought the Sydney Satchel today for 70euro....which is like 60% of the original price. So Im happy with that. The Rachel one is now 120euro where I can buy it. So the price is holding me back to buy the Rachel one. Now I noticed I never gotten the key with the bag 😔....its missing... Ahh...

Thanks for the comparison! I've got my Sydney yesterday - there are some new at the online shop! Mine is from an european site, but Fossil has them also in the US. So my new Sydney is like Rachel on the leather side and interior - much more stiffer then the old Sydney and without any card slots on the inside. Love it! And now I'm not sure which colours I should get too, there are around 8 colours/structures available.
Oh my! I went on and saw them on the US site. And they are on sale too!!!! I am actually using my Sydney right now because my daughter moved on to another purse. I love it, but I'm still having issues with the pocket configuration and the floppiness. Now I really wanna try the black one, but I'm saving for a new planner at the moment....ughhhhh! Fossil stores offer engraving. I had my name and my personal mantra on tne other side on the space provided in the key of my Rachel. Can't do that key of the Sydney bag
I love my Rachel. Been using it almost every day for over 2 years. But disappointed in the handles and straps as they are not full leather and have started peeling, badly. The body of the bag has aged beautifully giving a nice vintage-y look but the straps make it look like I just pulled the bag out of the dumpster. I can change the shoulder strap to a cotton/nylon one but I don't have a solution for the shorter straps. I've removed them but now the bag doesn't have the same functionality. Really sad and now I'm so wary about buying future Fossil bags. They've been my favourite brand for so long :(

I have the Rachel... two pockets inside and two pockets outside help me with organization. I keep shopping bags in one external pocket and my keys in the other one....
You didn't mention whether the bags had PU trim, I saw that on the website and wasn't clear what part is PU. I'm wondering if it's the handles? I tend to overpack my bags and wonder if that will be an issue if the handles are PU.
I’m not sure which purse I have. It’s sort of like the both. It’s kind of floppy. It has one long outside pocket. No feet. Handles like the Rachel, It doesn’t have a key holder inside or card holders. Do you know which one it could be? Also, Is it true if you get a purse that is made of pvc instead of leather it will be more structured? I saw a croc Sydney that I’m dying for. 😊. Thank you so much for an informative video. !!!
I have two different Sydney satchels, and neither of mine are floppy like that... weird. The only thing I don't love about them is that they are hard to unzip with one hand when they are on my shoulder.
I think I have seen them online in the smoother leather. It's seems like the pebbly ones are the slouchiest. I love touching it and it looks beautiful, it just makes it harder to get in and out of. I know they had another round of them come out just recently too. TFW!

Just wondering if the handles ever get in your way? I love everything about the bag over the Sydney except for the concern of the handles, do they fall outward over time?, I don’t need them to fall completely down but just concerned they might get in the way a bit
The handle straps didn't bother me at all. They did soften a bit, but I switched out purses right now, so I'm sure they will keep getting floppier. And I usually hold my purse with the straps, so I spread them apart on my arm most of the time. Hope this helps!
I'm wondering if certain colors are stiffer than others. This wine one is completely floppy. Beautiful, but not for me. I actually sold it today and moved back into a Michael Kors purse :-)

I have a navy Sydney and a wine Molly with tan trim -I prefer the Molly . Now that I'm buying Coach though I've realised I prefer the Coach glove tanned and pebbled leather to fossil leather .

They're both beautiful but like you I like and think a more structured bag like the Rachel looks better and is more functional. The Sydney looks kind of sloppy and when full can look bulgy and bumpy in my opinion.

Hello! The Rachel handles have gotten softer, but they still stand up...I actually like this because it makes it easier to grab and go :-) I don't pay much attention to rotating them, I feel like they stay put. I have switched over to my Kate Spade bag for the time being, so I don't feel like it has had as much love as the Sydney. I'm sure it is going to get even softer with time. Hope this helps!

Love both bags. I actually love the Fossil Peyton better than both of these satchels. The Peyton has better organization. I own two Peyton’s and two Sydney’s.

Thanks for the comparison! I've got my Sydney yesterday - there are some new at the online shop! Mine is from an european site, but Fossil has them also in the US. So my new Sydney is like Rachel on the leather side and interior - much more stiffer then the old Sydney and without any card slots on the inside. Love it! And now I'm not sure which colours I should get too, there are around 8 colours/structures available.
Oh my! I went on and saw them on the US site. And they are on sale too!!!! I am actually using my Sydney right now because my daughter moved on to another purse. I love it, but I'm still having issues with the pocket configuration and the floppiness. Now I really wanna try the black one, but I'm saving for a new planner at the moment....ughhhhh! Fossil stores offer engraving. I had my name and my personal mantra on tne other side on the space provided in the key of my Rachel. Can't do that key of the Sydney bag

I love my Rachel. Been using it almost every day for over 2 years. But disappointed in the handles and straps as they are not full leather and have started peeling, badly. The body of the bag has aged beautifully giving a nice vintage-y look but the straps make it look like I just pulled the bag out of the dumpster. I can change the shoulder strap to a cotton/nylon one but I don't have a solution for the shorter straps. I've removed them but now the bag doesn't have the same functionality. Really sad and now I'm so wary about buying future Fossil bags. They've been my favourite brand for so long :(
I didn't even realize that the straps are not full leather, that's a shame. I hope you find something that works for you again. I just received a purse from @laticoleathers2493

I have the Rachel... two pockets inside and two pockets outside help me with organization. I keep shopping bags in one external pocket and my keys in the other one....

You didn't mention whether the bags had PU trim, I saw that on the website and wasn't clear what part is PU. I'm wondering if it's the handles? I tend to overpack my bags and wonder if that will be an issue if the handles are PU.

I’m not sure which purse I have. It’s sort of like the both. It’s kind of floppy. It has one long outside pocket. No feet. Handles like the Rachel, It doesn’t have a key holder inside or card holders. Do you know which one it could be? Also, Is it true if you get a purse that is made of pvc instead of leather it will be more structured? I saw a croc Sydney that I’m dying for. 😊. Thank you so much for an informative video. !!!
I have two different Sydney satchels, and neither of mine are floppy like that... weird. The only thing I don't love about them is that they are hard to unzip with one hand when they are on my shoulder.
I feel the same way! I find that I end up leaving the zipper open on top.
That's odd my Sydney satchel doesn't slouch like that n the leather isnt as pebble .I bout mine in 2013 n it is one of my favorite bag...
I think I have seen them online in the smoother leather. It's seems like the pebbly ones are the slouchiest. I love touching it and it looks beautiful, it just makes it harder to get in and out of. I know they had another round of them come out just recently too. TFW!

Just wondering if the handles ever get in your way? I love everything about the bag over the Sydney except for the concern of the handles, do they fall outward over time?, I don’t need them to fall completely down but just concerned they might get in the way a bit
The handle straps didn't bother me at all. They did soften a bit, but I switched out purses right now, so I'm sure they will keep getting floppier. And I usually hold my purse with the straps, so I spread them apart on my arm most of the time. Hope this helps!

I'm wondering if certain colors are stiffer than others. This wine one is completely floppy. Beautiful, but not for me. I actually sold it today and moved back into a Michael Kors purse :-)

The Sydney is a little too slouchy but more my style. I like both have though. I'd love to see a what's in my daughter's bag video with the Sydney.
I have a navy Sydney and a wine Molly with tan trim -I prefer the Molly . Now that I'm buying Coach though I've realised I prefer the Coach glove tanned and pebbled leather to fossil leather .
I used to buy coach purses all the time. I loved them, but I started exploring other brands. I'm at that point again where I can't seem to find a purse that matches my current needs. Thanks for watching!
They're both beautiful but like you I like and think a more structured bag like the Rachel looks better and is more functional. The Sydney looks kind of sloppy and when full can look bulgy and bumpy in my opinion.

I love my Sydney bag. I like that it has feet and I'm petite so I would find the Rachel too big. The pocket in the back is perfect if you use Android.

Hello! The Rachel handles have gotten softer, but they still stand up...I actually like this because it makes it easier to grab and go :-) I don't pay much attention to rotating them, I feel like they stay put. I have switched over to my Kate Spade bag for the time being, so I don't feel like it has had as much love as the Sydney. I'm sure it is going to get even softer with time. Hope this helps!

They still stand up when I wear it crossbody, but it doesn't get in the way like I imagined it would. They aren't that stiff. Hope this helps!
Love both bags. I actually love the Fossil Peyton better than both of these satchels. The Peyton has better organization. I own two Peyton’s and two Sydney’s.
