      The Brexiteers ignore that Mr. Farage has probably secured all his business with the EU, he probably has a nice house in an EU country as many British do. It would be so good that the UK becomes a "normal" country as Norway and Iceland. We never hear any news about these countries, I hope that it happens the same with the UK from now on. Now UKIP and Brexit Party are unemployed, that's good. If the UK is so democratic, why don't these parties have a single MP at the British Parliament?. It's precisely the European Parliament that he despises the Institution who has given he and his party room in the political scenery but he and his parties have already been kicked out from his beloved UK.

      @@johnpoulter You have no idea what communism is, do you? The EU is an entirely neoliberal institution, dedicated to free trade and the prosperity of financial markets. Most communists and socialists don't like the EU, because by definition they're opposed to neoliberalism, and liberalism in general.

    • @monkeymox2544
      @monkeymox2544 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@johnpoulter Uh huh. Except the USSR wasn't communist. By definition, a communist society is stateless - the USSR had a strong centralised state. By definition, a communist society is one where the workers own and control the means of production; in the USSR, the state owned and controlled the means of production. By definition, in a communist society any surplus value created by a workforce is controlled by the workforce itself; in the USSR, it was controlled by the state.
      Even if you don't accept any of that - and you have to know basically nothing about either world history or communist theory to avoid doing so - why does the assessment of one state official of a corrupt government hold any particular weight for you? Is Gorbachev really the last word on the subject? Here's a better idea: look at the EU and what its actually doing. It doesn't appear to be trying to institute a society based on the downfall of the bourgeoisie and the dissolution of all classes into one. The EU is pretty far up the bourgeoisie's arse. I haven't noticed any calls to democratise the workplace coming out of Brussels, have you? And even if you take communism to mean state capitalism - which you shouldn't - in what ways does the EU resemble that? Its institutions are dedicated to free trade and financial mobility. The entire union was FORMED around free trade.
      So please, just stop throwing buzzwords around. I'm not arguing against your right to dislike the EU. I'm not arguing against your right to dislike either communism or state capitalism. But the EU doesn't even remotely resemble either of those things, and is showing no sign of moving towards either of them. In fact, last year the EU Parliament passed an anti-communist motion comparing "communism" (again, they were actually talking about state capitalism) directly to fascism.

    • @monkeymox2544
      @monkeymox2544 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johnpoulter I wouldn't call major ideological difference "cute definitions". And I don't claim that any state in the world which has called itself communist or socialist (albeit incorrectly) has succeeded. I'm just saying that if you're going to use a word, use it properly. The "its never worked in practice" argument is a bad argument, because we've never had it in practice. By analogy, we had centuries of attempts at liberal republicanism and democracy in the west before it actually succeeded. Anti-democrats across the continent did point to Cromwell and the French revolution and made similar "it never works" arguments. Even if democracy had never worked in practice, and had consistently devolved into tyranny, it would still be a bad argument to point at failed 'democratic' states and say 'democracy never works'. The reason being that the states in question would not, by definition, have been democracies. You see what I'm saying? I'm not claiming that communism would ever work, but whether or not a theory can translate effectively into practice is immaterial when it comes to accurately defining something. You can't just take three completely separate ideologies, which have historically been in conflict with one another -communism, socialism, and fascism - smash them together, and say they're basically the same. They're just not, and you're being incredibly intellectually dishonest by perpetuating that falsehood.
      Now as for the EU specifically, you know that the UK had as much power as any member state over policy, right? In fact, given our contribution to the budget, we had a considerable amount of clout. This is what always confuses me about many brexiteer arguments: they talk as if the EU is some external, unaccountable power which forces its will on conquered countries, when in fact the EU is an amalgamation of the collective will of all those countries. Aside from the commission, which definitely needs to go (although its power is checked by the elected Parliament, the elected heads of government of the council, and the elected national ministers of the council of Europe), its no different from federal power in the United states, or Australia, or Canada, or India, or indeed Germany. Its really no different than the power of the UK government over the devolved regional governments. There's nothing inherently dictatorial about smaller constituent parts relinquishing some sovereignty to a wider authority. That's ultimately the basis of all systems of government everywhere. If the USA isn't a 'dictatorship', then why is the EU? Particularly given that the EU has even less power over member states than the federal government does over states of the union.

    Congratulations from Canada - thank God for real people, courage, and the confidence to see it though. This is really about freedom and democracy - well done!

      Hello! Italian here!
      I love EU , I think is great.
      I would appreciate if you didn't wish for the fall of Europe!
      How would you feel if I wished for the fall of your union? Like if I wished that Scotland left?

    "Global corporatism" reminds me of Mussolini's definition of Fascism: "Fascism is the union of government with corporate power." My dad fought against Italy's fascist regime, along with countless other people, and of course the Italians themselves. Italians never took to fascism. Modern Europeans--ordinary people--don't either. No global corporatism, please, whatever it chooses to call itself.
