@@Jamezontoast I really love both DQ5 and 8. though I wouldn’t necessarily say that 8 cuts deeper than 11. I would personally say that for emotional impact; 1. DQ5 2. DQ11 3. DQ8 That’s just me though and they’re all fantastic games regardless!
I actually started to hold back tears when Shadow Jasper started taking self-damage and did no more than 1 Hp of damage to Hendrik. Jeez, the poor guy.
Heartbreaking scene. The use of the DQIII score in XI is so perfect, both in mood, and in building up the connection between the two games, and the series history as a whole.
I more associate "With Sadness in Heart" with that scene, even though this plays during it. To me, this is more tied to Hendrik. Especially in the Switch version.

For some reason, when I hear this song, I'm reminded of DQ 11 with Hendrik's speech during his encounter with Jasper in the ruined throne room. " I lost my hometown, my family, my friends, all to the dark power that you serve. I lost my faith, my purpose. Though some called me "hero", I believed I was a fraud and that I was powerless to protect them. But I can protect them. I must, and there is one I must protect above all others. It is the luminary's duty to deliver the world from evil, and it is MY duty to protect him! Jasper! You are a traitor to your kingdom, a servant of evil and a threat to the servant of light! I sentence you to DEATH!"
Why was it that you always thought yourself better than me? Why was it that you always got all the golden opportunities? Why was it that you got everything you wanted?
Thank you, Orchestral Overhaul mod. When this song started playing in DQ XI, I started crying. And it was my first DQ game, so there was no nostalgia whatsoever. The story is so well written and the music is amazing too (I can't listen to the midi ost, but the orchestral version is amazing).
Everybody is gushing about DQ11 (which is still a great game, don't get me wrong), but I feel I'm the only one who remembers this song for its original use in DQ3.
does anyone know where this track plays in DQIII? i have played that game many times, and can't quite recall where this appears... Haunting, all the same
I don't remember where it's used but it is the game's sad theme. Usually used in run down locations or in a destroyed town. if only some sort of DQ 3 remake would come out. Like one in 2-D HD...
Dragon Quest XI is one of the most emotional games I’ve ever played
Same here! XI S made if even better. DQ VIII & V cut a lot deeper than XI if you're yet to try those

In a sad song, too...
How about the more depressing version from XI?

God, this music reminds me of one of the saddest parts of XI. To avoid spoilers. "Only you can save this world! Don't let me down!"

I almost died when I was before this scene. Seriously never had a game made me cry that much ere.
Yeah, the scene got me all teary eyed, thanks to the Orchestral Overhaul mod.

Jasper because one of my favorite characters due to this scene

This is truly music that touches the soul.
this song is just simply amazing
I have cry when I have hear in DQXI
Glad the Nintendo Switch will have the Orchestra version. I cannot wait!
i just heard this in XI and have been on a hunt to find this. The ost is blowing my MIND AWAY. First dq game if its not obvious!
When this plays in XI I get goosebumps
This is the song I was looking for! In DQ XI! To avoid spoilers, the first time you hear it is when you go back to Cobblestone in Act 1.
I CRIED at that scene!
Rest in peace, master.
So many DQ11 fans invading the comments, give poor Ortega some love :(
Honestly couldn't care less about Ortega. Pankraz is a way cooler dad with a more meaningful sacrifice

The last Jasper fight truly threw me off guard. Was I supposed to kill him? Was I supposed to just defend myself like Cecil does in FF4?
I prefer the cello in the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra's recording, but this is still quite nice.
Heartbreaking every time
This song sends chills through my body
This is a prank right Veronica. Come on wake up. *Body fades away*. Oh crap baskets.
Hendrik’s a badass!
I actually don’t think he could get any more awesome if he tried!
