    Just cleaned the carb and changed the oil on my 1995 fxstsb. It’s been sitting in the garage for around 5 years. Threw a new battery in and it fired right up. Gotta love the evo motor.

    I know this is an old video but I enjoy them very much. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. My “old bike” is a 2001 twin cam Road King. My new one is a 2020 Street Glide. I’d love to own an old shovel or knuckle or pan but it seems like the Knuckles and Pans are much more of a hands on kind of bike. While I have the knowledge about mechanical stuff and could certainly learn the ins and outs I’m more of a maintain it and ride it kind of guy. Which makes your stuff perfect for me to watch and enjoy. Thanks again for sharing.

    +Jake C , twin cams to me are a modern bike. If you like fast, powerful, doing 80MPH on the highway or being able to ride 800 miles in a day. You absolutely want a twin cam. ME, I ride 20 miles, SLOW, doing 35-50 MPH on an antique. For myself, this is a much more enjoyable activity. Some like fat girls, some like thin girls, and SOME dudes like other dudes. Hey, whatever works for you.

      In 1984 I was I was living at Los Angeles Job Corps.
      I would ride the bus to various dealers to buy T shirts.
      Laidlaws was in Rosemead, Harbor City HD, there was also Vic’s Custom Cycles on Sherman Way.
      Anyway I was riding the bus out to Barger’s and I got in a fight with some dude who tried to crowd into the seat next to me.
      We got off the bus, he hit me in the face, I hit him on the chin and he dropped so fast and his head went THOCK when it hit the concrete!

    Hey todd, I just picked up a 1996 FXDS convertible, the metallic purple looking color with 20,300 original miles on it... runs great, and is mostly stock except for a hypercharger and some chrome doodads. I have the stock bags, but the windshield is missing. The bags aren't in very good shape but they work. Did a straight up trade for my Vulcan 2000 classic. You think I made out ok? Paint is pretty good except for the blemishes you would expect on a 17 year old bike

    I just picked up a 1993 FXSTS for a song. They really are great bikes if you like the nostalgic look. I personally will be building a mildly simplified "bobbed" 70's era inspired bike.
    Seeing as you are the resident expert here. What should I look out for with the older carbed Evo motor? Any parts that fail and should be replaced at a specific time or mileage to avoid bigger issues? It is a 1993 with 25k miles on it.

    Hey Todd, Bill Davis--an engineer and Motorcycle Enthusiast from St.Louis, Missouri designed the 1st softtail prototype in 1972 on his Super Glide. Easyriders Rag used to run that ad a lot in the mid to later 70's. The company was called Road Worx. I won a helluva lot of bets when i pulled that EZ cutout ad outta' my wallet to show the disbelievers that Davidson originally never made the softtail frame like they boasted. They just bought out Bill Davis and hushed it!!! Google..."Did You Know? The story of the Harley-Davidson Softtail Frame". Or Goggle..."Vintage Road Worx Harley Frame'' (Hawgshack Cycles Timeline Facebook article) for detailed information. The advertisement of Road Worx that Easyriders ran is in this article. It's entitled--ROAD WORX INTRODUCES..."SUB SHOCK". Take Care, and Thanks for the cOoL Videos!!!

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      gatorhunter1 gravity causes oil to eventually seep past the check ball in the oil pump, then into the lower end. When a bike sit's long enough, even a brand new bike, Harley that is, will eventually have this issue. The oil does not magically go back into the oil tank when the lower end is over filled it spews on the ground

      Strongly agree! If you take reasonable care of any Evo they'll easily go over 100K miles on the stock bottom end. Dependability is why I bought my FXR in 1988. Still have it, store it outdoors most of the time and I'm not kind to it though I maintain it with care. Why don't you like twin cams? I just like that you can get a stock twin can in a 103. The power is really competitive with other brands...unlike the olden days!

    that would of been from being too hot at one time. These pipes may, or may not, have been run on this machine from new. Often, people who think they know how to tune these bikes don't and some put them on a electronic timer and 'get it wrong'. The why these pipes got that hot is unknown. I just know some of the causes.

    I understand.. Its just that a fully loaded evo bagger pulling hills is like towing a gooseneck with a car!! Even the 88in TC is..meh on a bagger. I guess I just like a nice combo of a little speed with my cruising...guess that's why I love my Sporty so much!

    Learn how to tune your bikes. No reason why an evo shouldn't start and run perfect with out the help of the throttle. And stop running them hard before completely warmed up. All your evo bikes probably leak oil from the base gasket

    • @Rowdie999
      @Rowdie999 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah like what do they stand for? I have next to 0 knowledge about harleys

    • @HuntingHarleys
      @HuntingHarleys  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure they ever stood for an exact meaning. The FX series meant big twin with narrow fork. The FXS meant a big twin with narrow fork and one could give an opinion here, but if S really meant anything it is lost. The complete term is FXS Lowrider. Harley offered an FXB and an FXE in 1980 also. The FXB Sturgis (1st year) had a twin belt drive and the FXE came in a super glide version (IE small tank) and an FXEF version, IE Fatbob's (that's the F part). The E meant electric start. However, the FXS and FXB were also electric start. The 1st FX model came out in 1971 and was kick only 1971 and 72. 1973 saw the introduction of the FXE. The FXS was introduced in 1977 mid year.
