I hope Paradox doesn't do the mistake that Civilization 6 does - overcomplicate things no normal human can comprehend but for spending days over days just to understand the basics.
On the other hand Crusader Kings 3 showed that players can like complicated games as long as the hurdle to entry is low and the UI is good. I guess easy to learn, hard to master kind of thing?
You can look even further away from Paradox games to find a good example. Simcity 4 manages to have a great deal of complexity, in many ways a much more deeper and challenging simulation (especially economicaly), while still being a extremely easy game to get in. The only aspect that CS simulation has an edge over SC4 is on the traffic and transportation aspects, other than that I would love to see the systems from SC4 integrated into CS2
I came here to say pretty much the same thing. You also don't want the game too complicated for people who are playing casually. You have to strike a balance. It becomes too complex and it becomes off putting. Not everyone playing this is a city planner or has civil engineering experience, after all.
You're spot on with noting that CS is a painter, not a true planner. The question would then follow, is a city planning feature something that should be "always on" or if people want to make a 1:1 build, no matter what the pops think, that there is a way to turn it off? I think the answer will either be in the base game or hardcore CS players will whine about it and a modder will have a huge hit with a mod that flattens or otherwise eliminates that pop demand for the people who just want to paint and detail. Myself? I would like those workings, but I'd also like it where buildings didn't bail out and abandon when there are no services - grinding poverty should be a thing in a city planner and getting services to distressed populations, but with displacing a minimum of people, should be a scenario as typical as traffic management.
Citystate II is where I always hoped Citybuilders would have eventually evolved, but apparently the majority of the players had played only City Skylines and got angry that a game not focused on city design had bad city design options. I don't think that's a good sign for the genre.
I don't think other Paradox games means much to CS2, since they are made by really different teams and for really different demographics. After what happened whit Plaza and Promenade probably CO will go full on the "city designer" side and simplify all the "simulation" side that for many players (if not the majority) are more annoying than playable concepts.
it's not that they need to simulate social aspects, its that they need "game play" aspects in the game. It could work by simulating industries and businesses where you have to build up companies and transport goods and raw materials, a bit like transport tycoon and a lot like industry giant. What made those games great was they had game play which made them captivating and gave the cities a reason to exist and allowed the game year to play a role which introduced new technologies over time.
I kind of agree. Maybe they don't need even more production chains like in the Industries DLC, but there should be more gameplay than just "plop a service building".
These are city builders, not gran 4x strategy games like CK and Victoria. People who want that play those games or something like Tropico or Anno. You can try to say it isnt a city builder because you paint the zones but the SimCity games have been the same forever. Cities at least support and allow the modders to create everything else for people to choose from. CS2 will be no different, CO will create an engine and system for the community to adapt and use as they see fit.
You're talking about a version 2, but I haven't seen any official announcement from the designers yet. If they ever release it, will all the DLC we bought be usable? They just upgraded the game and sell 2 new DLCs for the current version, so why release another version?
if they made a cities skylines 2 (very likely), then no, dlc from the current game would not be compatible. Also the Sims is a good example of how this can work out. they still release new dlc even if a new game is coming, so that's what paradox is doing here as well. it's a common thing
The game is built in a old version of unity which relies on using only 1 core of a cpu. More recent unity developments are optimised for multi core ssd pcs and therefore the present version is highly limited performance wise and technically out of date.
@@firestarter1888 Yes indeed, the game is based on an older version of Unity. But having programmed with this engine for 15 years, I know that it is possible, but difficult, to upgrade the game, without having to start it again from scratch There's the base game and all the DLC
@@Jean_Mi I assume for compatibility issues that a clean slate is required and that it would be easier, although I may well be totally wrong. I assume they want to milk the current version, however the entire base game needs overhauling anyway (eventually) taking everything learned and tested, redployed with more user content and mods, a more stable dev environment and more granular simulation management. Will be interesting to see.
Technically, C:S2 should be modeled after C:S but with revamped optimization and adding features as described in video. They have all the content they need and give the ability to retain current workshop content for assets. Mods no, as completely different game. But take most popular current mods from C:S and incorporate them into C:S2. C:S is popular as people love the building of the city aspect of it.
I can understand why you might think so, but Victoria 2 players waited 12 years for Victoria 3 to release, so I am still pretty confident we will see a Cities skylines 2 haha.
@@erKrieger1 Also, to create a new version with more features, better AI, etc requires alot more computer firepower of memory/cpu/graphics. So it makes sense to only put in the tremendous amount of difficult programming (good programmers are very expensive) only when computers are powerful enough to support it.
You don't have to buy them then. DLC is optional content for people, not a required part of the game. God it so old trying to explain to people why DLC is a thing and how it helps the dev companies survive.. Things cost money to make, and so they cost you money to get.
i wonder if alot of the limitations and my dissapointents in the DLC's are mostly from Engine related limitations. as Engines are locked in halve way or earlier in the dev time. and the more you build on it the harder it might be to change stuff. and today the most annoying thing i find about CS is content creators. as sooner or later they all break the sim for looks or designs that the game doesnt allow with more and more mods. so if you want to just play the sim it feels disconnected.. and worst of all. even There own community streams are full of this shit now.
Why wouldn't there be? As I mentioned we already have leaks and rumors and the game is doing really well. Also Paradox games do get sequels even when the predecessor had plenty of mods and DLC.
