Synopsis: 17-year-old Suzume's journey begins in a quiet town in Kyushu when she encounters a young man who tells her, "I'm looking for a door." What Suzume finds is a single weathered door standing upright in the midst of ruins as though it was shielded from whatever catastrophe struck. Seemingly drawn by its power, Suzume reaches for the knob.... Doors begin to open one after another all across Japan, unleashing destruction upon any who are near. Suzume must close these portals to prevent further disaster. The stars. The sunset. The morning sky. Within that realm, it was as though all time had melted together in the sky--guided by these mysterious doors, Suzume's journey to close doors is about to begin.

Just saw this in theaters, and it was surprisingly great! The chair bit somehow didn’t feel strange like I thought it would. I’ll probably see it again, and would absolutely recommend anyone seeing it for a first time! The movie definitely gave Spirited Away vibes, and was super well done!

Daijin VA actually pretty accurate to the Japanese, a cute with stitch of evil.
The one who voices Daijin did like a cat thing, straying logic and love frustrating humans. lol
I didn’t expect a film with an animate chair to get me teary-eyed. I definitely recommend this! Though I watched it with subtitles.

I am so glad I got to see this masterpiece in theaters. I've regretted not seeing Weathering With You and Your Name on the big screen, so I knew I couldn't miss such an awesome opportunity.

So awesome! I only learned about it today too, just as I finished the Season 4 of Superstore.
I saw it today in the theater with my brother on the last day they were having it screened. It was absolutely breathtakingly beautiful and we both enjoyed it so very much. The plot twists in the film were very extremely satisfying!

Man this man just dropping masterpiece in 3 years. This is crazy just how one man is thinking all of this, it just seems like that he is time travelling to see the future.
Wonder who casts for these voice roles and who directs the acting, it's always so unique and different to what you'd hear in a normal anime production. Either just the actual voice talents themselves or the (in my opinion) more grounded approach of voice acting where it doesn't sound overproduced/exaggerated, it sounds like a regular person talking instead

Nichole is actually best known for her role in a normal sitcom called superstore. I get the same vibe from it. She isn't exclusively a voice actor so she definitely sells it well.
I am very much a fan of exaggerated Japanese dubs but calling this bad kinda just makes it seem like people don't understand they aren't trying to be like the Japanese dub here.
Suzume's voice isn't what I expected. It put me of a bit when I watched the trailer for the first time. After watching it a few times though it's growing on me.it's great to hear some new voice tallen't. And it might not be what I expected but I think it could still work well. At this point I actually like her voice and the other voice actors did a great job to! It's just weird to hear a different voice after being use to hearing the Japanese one up until this point(which only happens because no dub trailer released until now) . Unfortunatly I probably won't be able to see the dub for a while since I doubt they will air it in the Netherlands. But wen it eventually comes available on blueray I will watch it in dub inmediutly.

@@Tyrone181 I know. But I doubt the English dub will be available when in theaters here. They didn't do that for the sao movies either. In fact the second movie wasn't even subtitled in dutch which was the lowest effort ever.
They should've cast an younger actress for her voice. She sounds too old to voice a teenager

This movie is relatively easy to understand than Shinkai's other films, and it doesn't require specific knowledge about 2011 Tohoku Earthquake.

Most anime mention the song with the user credit in the opening when the chorus comes like Resister [Asca] written in the opening credits.. However some movies and shows doesn't credit the person so basically they are being dubbed into english

There's emotion, but the tone range in the Original Japanese hits harder. Not to mention the lines from the original have been changed for the worse. The subs English subs we received would've been the better fit in my opinion.
There's emotion, but japanese language is more expressive that's why you can't feel emotions in the voice acting

I just watched Suzume (English Dub) last night, and it was one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen. It's amazing how Makoto Shinkai was able to take a premise that initially sounds silly on paper (and could've been disastrous in the wrong hands), and managed to make me believe it. Definitely his best film since "Your Name."

Suzume's ruined this miserably at dramatic scene that is the main issue of the movie, but I also pity the other that did good for them. I still watch dubbed, but in Blu - Ray it have to change Suzume's voice thought Nicole did good at normal conversation. There are another VAs who can express better dramatic emotion than this.
The Dub isn't bad at all, but still prefer the Japanese version, overall, a 8.5/10 from the trailer
Definitely seems like a step back after the great dub we got for Weathering With You, but excited nonetheless!

Saw this last night. Could not help but wonder what might happen if Suzume ever encountered Kratos from the God of War series. I think they’d pause and stare at each other for a moment, then a Chaos Worm would make itself known. Together Suzume and Kratos would rush towards it. The Worm would be particularly hard for Suzume to handle alone. Kratos would help her subdue it without being asked. At the end after she contains it, she gives the God of War a sheepish thank you. He grunts at her in response. They then go their separate ways.
Fun fact: The eng VA of suzume is Nichole Sakura who is also Cheyenne from superstore .
