    Stanley Kubrick is truly in a class of his own in terms of filmmaking and visual storytelling, style, etc. There’s always something almost surreal and unearthly about every Kubrick film, and I mean that in the nicest way possible. A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Full Metal Jacket are, IMO, unlike any film I’ve seen before.

      Kubrick is the greatest director of all time in my opinion. Absolutely brilliant. And wasn't afraid to tackle multiple genres. Mesmerizing style.

    Just bloody extraordinary! I could (no exaggeration) watch film of Stanley working for 10 hours. Just watching him THINK is instructive and riveting. I'll take all I can get of this action.
    Vivian Kubrick---why she did not become a documentary film maker as a career baffles me---she clearly is ultra talented with her father's keen eye and also patently loves it.
    I have seen Vivian's ARENA doc of "The Shining" MANY times and will watch it many more times...I hope I am watching it when the Reaper comes and says, "Ok, I've let you watch it a crap load...now you're taking the piss, let's go...we'll stop for mojitos..."
    Thanks for posting this!!

    I like that bit at around 12.00 when Kubrick is trying to work out why the crew want another tea break at 4pm and Terry, the AD, chips in with ' fuck those tea breaks, I'd take all those fucking tea breaks and throw them down that fucking piss hole!"....and he says that while drinking tea and with a thermos flask of tea tucked under his arm......hahaha...fucking brilliant...!!!

    just came across this, I remember as a kid we watched the filming of the "outskirts of Hue", it was filmed near my home, on the north kent marshes in Cliffe, Kent, having palm trees there was funny, but it was great to watch. (the road is still there, but looks very different now, as you can imagine).

      Unfortunately I don't think we'll ever see on-set footage for either as Vivian Kubrick didn't make a documentary for them. Also, particularly with Eyes, Kubrick made it a press sealed shoot before it was released.
      Still there's lots of cool on-set photos on this site
      ascmag.com/articles/a-sword-in-the-bed-eyes-wide-shut
      In Leon Vitali's documentary "Filmworker" I did see a very brief clip, like 5 seconds, of he and Kubrick filming an audition with Marie Richardson for Eyes Wide Shut. Presumably the rest of that tape is stored away in the Kubrick archive.

    All of the Vietnam scenes were shot from late August 1985 to late December 1985.
    The sniper confrontation was filmed in July 1986 at Pinewood Studios in the middle of Kubrick shooting the boot camp sequence.
    Modine is wearing a wig under his helmet if you look closely.
    Another fun fact. The death of Cowboy was shot just before New Years Eve 1985 and it was so cold in fact that Kubrick had to frame his death scene so that all four of them are huddled around him, so even though it was a beautiful shot, it was all arbitrary.
    And the reason he could only shoot the scene that exact way, was because just out of frame, were those heaters you see at the sideline of football games, blowing hot air into the actors face to cover up their cold breath.

  • @StevenAlvarez
    @StevenAlvarez ปีที่แล้ว +1

    In a few of the Hue shots you can see Cowboy’s breath. You can tell by Kubrick’s jacket and hat (and the fact they flew in palm trees) it mustn’t have been that warm there.
