AJFA is absolutely genius
I thought it was going to be a tone recreation of And Justice For All album when I saw the thumbnail
Are you ever going to release more Josh Middleton Project stuff? I loved how progressive it sounded and would love to hear more of that style from you.
this
Thanks for the questions and shout out again to MetalHoppo for the AJFA name idea www.patreon.com/JoshSylosisOfficial
Good to see the 50K milestone, lets get to 100k !
Kudos for being real on why you'll make these videos! No one admits it, they upload BS content when trying it, but we're sure that your's will be quality QAs.
Really keen for this series… the name is perfect. Not a question but I hope that mention of the 24 hour travel time to get to Australia was a hint!
This is awesome!
This is exciting, thanks Josh
Id be interested in content about the meaning behind your lyrics and some of your lyrical inspiration.
I also think you could do a cool series where you do vocal playthroughs of songs from Conclusion of an Age.
Itd also just be cool to see you listen to older Sylosis songs and kinda talk about your headspace at that time and where you were in life
Ask Josh anything…except that thing you really want to ask him 😂
Great idea!
Cool new idea, and thanks for answering my question!
Couple more for you:
- You mentioned not finishing songs because they feel too long and you don't know what to cut - is it so bad to have the odd long one here and there? You've talked about imposing too many rules on Sylosis before the pause.
- Will you do more song quick lessons/runthroughs like you used to do a while back? Key riffs and licks etc.
- I'm going to keep asking about Monolith anniversary/reissue stuff (tabs/merch) because it's my one of my favourite albums.
Yes, longer songs that require attention but reward you with experience are great. Especially with the build up and explosion of flavor at the end. That's why so many people love Quiescent, hidden track from Monolith and (I know it's not that long) Absent.
The tour tshirt up on the Sylosis site with the red sylosis on the front with the scale are sic!
Hey Josh. What was it like in the early days of your career? Meaning from when Sylosis first started until you recorded the first EP's and Conclusion of an Age. I feel like none of it is actually documented. Was it a real struggle to get your name out there and what were the other band members like? Do you have great memories of those days and do you still remain friends with the band members that parted ways? Cheers.
Hey Josh,
When you released the JMP it played like nothing I had heard before, to me its some of your best work. Do you plan on making any other solo projects in the future?
Yessss!
As someone who can do rhythm, leads, vocals and engineering very well, I'm wondering which of those was the most challenging one to get right?
I love ...And justice for all
If you need ideas for videos, "cycle of suffering from twitch" rehearsal was really cool. I'd love to see more of those:)
Love that you mentioned Het as a top lead guitarist. I’ve always loved his To Live solo as well as his melodic solos in Master and My Friend. Speaking of melodic solos, your solo in A Godless Throne is phenomenal…instant classic. Love how it reprises “in the distance” at the outro of the song. What are your favorite guitar solos that you’ve done in Sylosis and Architects?
Awesome title 😄🤘🏻
How are your guitars setup? Relief, action height etc.
1. Monolith turns to 12 this year, any plan for the anniversary ?
Merch and tabs🤘🏼
2.What finish / top will you like your next signature model to have ?🤘🏼🤘🏼
3.More Guitar solo tutorials for old songs ? Like Mercy / Last Remaining Light etc 🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Absolutely agree with point 1...if there ever is a Monolith merch drop I would jump on it immediately.
great idea for a series, cool to hear you posting more on YT
do you still own/play those Dan Gower modded marshalls ?
I used to own a Gower modded Cali mod '77 JMP that absolutely ripped, had to sell it unfortunately some 12 years ago now, would love to try/hear one again, my ears always gravitate back to modded marshall tones
thanks
Great stuff Josh. I'm one of those guys as well whose almost 100 % metal as far as listening to music goes. I've got a question too: what album has your all-time favorite guitar tone?
Hi josh! big fan of sylosis here. My question is, what are your favorite death metal albums that you think are timeless? And do you still listen to them to this day?
That said, do please come to Australia this year haha.
Great idea... i've been wanting to ask, on your STL plugins, any hints at what presets for different Sylosis eras/songs? Loving them btw
Hey Josh. Is there any chance we might hear some more Passages in the future? Loved the first album! Abandon sounds like it would have worked as a Passages song, did it start life as one? Thanks for all you do!
That's actually amazing.
Would you ever consider re-recording The Supreme Opressor or Casting Shadows?
There are some real forgotten bangers there! And they would benefit from your modern vocals.
Loved your concert in Warsaw!
Two great albums. Thankfully I've got them both saved on an old iPod!
Josh said on Patreon a week or so ago that they are rerecording some of their old tracks (didn't specify what tracks or albums they were off) and that release info would be available via their email newsletter
Hey Josh! With Architects newest single clearly being aimed at some of the online vitriol surrounding their last album, I was wondering how much of that actually got to you? You seem to be "less online" (for lack of a better term) than many others, so I'm curious how much it affected you.
Tell us the story of your friendship with Tom Searle, how did you meet and did you write music together?
What a swell fella 🤌🤙
And justice for all is my fav album
Hey Josh! Learned of Sylosis through the song Mercy in the Dormant Heart record and became a big fan since then. My question is: Is there a song you wrote that you are particularly proud of?
Greetings from Brazil!
BR PORRA
🔥🔥🔥
I've got 1990 warlock with a reverse headstock, it's "technically" crap but I fucking love it. I bought it last year to fulfil the childhood fancy of being max from the 90s!
I'm glad I'm not the only one that still loves the warlock
I sure would love to buy the 'Live At: Lite Up Studios' video after missing out initially. Any plans to make it available again?
Hey, Josh.
I was wondering what are some of your favorite metal album cover arts?
Will we see any video regarding the guitar tones on the Monolith record?
I know Sylosis has went in a new direction musically, but do you have any plans for releasing anything more akin to your older albums like Monolith (probably the best modern metal album IMO)? Whether that's with Sylosis or your other two solo projects you've done?
Also, If I may ask a second question, can you please do a video on how get/ mix your lead/solo tones? They sound amazing and I'd love some insight on how you get them sounding as good as they do.
Josh, please tell about all the rest members of Sylosis?
I think rythm guitarist is a very good as a guitar player!
He's left
Bailey didn't leave? Just hasn't been touring as he has a kid.

What pickups do you like or use other than the Fishman Fluence Modern set in your LTD signature guitar? Any passive pickups you’d recommend for modern high gain? Thanks for doing these FAQ videos Josh 🤘🤘🤘
What are the most important aspects to practise as a guitar player IYO
What advice would you give to people approaching to all the production world? Like how to choose a certain tone or another and how to dial with it or how to make a mix sound great
Could you break down how much content you wrote for Architects? Especially Holy Hell. Really curious
great question
Did you learn anything from your time with Architects that you're now applying to Sylosis? Could be anything from production, certain techniques, marketing strategies, or just helpful advice.
Great video. You all good Josh? Looks like you’ve lost a lot of weight brother
What is your 'death row' meal?? (aka: Your last ever 3 course meal.)
🤘
How did you develop your downpicking? Also, favorite drive / boost pedals?
Hi Josh, recently got ur signature guitar (fkn awesome) :) What is your thoughts on Alexi Laiho playing and as a composer? Did u own any of his signature guitar? ( seems like u used alx 600, but im not sure) Best wishes from Russia)
My question will be a bit techy, but I hope you will be happy to answer it.
What amps, cabs & mics did you used while tracking A Sign Of Things to Come? Is there any boost or overdrives too?
Big fan of NIN and The Black Queen here
Sylosis has a Tab Book for Dormant Heart on Sheet Happens. Do you guys plan other Tab Books in the future? I would buy them all
How do go about panning guitar tracks with multiple rhythm and lead harmonies in a mix? Thanks Josh
What are your top 5 greatest albums of all time / top 5 inspirational albums
Hey josh , a sign of things to come is my main album i'm listening to these days, really loving it.
What's your approach to the layering on the choruses that are melodic but still distorted?
You're picked for a modern day equivalent of roadrunner united.. who are the other three captains and who are your top picks to work with
Hey Josh, what is the process of making signature guitar with ESP? How many stages of design, specs, prototyping etc it involves?
Playing and singing (screaming) AT the same Time. Tried on ALY and did ok on some parts as an exercise, but when it gets too intricate, it doesn't work.
You Said in an interview you figure it out minutes before a gig and that blew my mind.
What are the prerequisites? How do you approach this in your songwriting? Does this require a whole demo / video of its own
Thank you for making more content!
13:13 it is PTSD. Actually it's a trauma response. Which means your body gets a spike of adrenalin to put you in position of survival for a threat that is no longer there, but it is a similar trigger. And I am talking from a standpoint of the latest understanding of trauma which is not an event but a body thing. So next time in any similar situation try to relax the body of any tension and in turn your nervous system is going to desensetise any external triggers. If it's adrenalin that you feel try to shake your body with jumping jacks or something similar and it will remove the buildup quickly. Sry for the essay :').
I ordered a Sylosis long-sleeve for the release of the latest album, how much sexier will I become when it arrives?
were you a fan of BFMV back in the day? theres a riff on "last remaining light" that always reminded me of that crazy riff in the end of "the poison" from their first album
Have you ever noticed that baritone guitars in low tunings sound very different to regular guitars in less extreme tunings? I often feel like it's x2 more difficult to create a great tone for a baritone, while regular guitar just sounds good right away. are there any advices that you could give on the matter? huge thanks!
Question 2: on your STL plugins, can i use the pitch pedal as pitch shifter to change tunings and how? Sorry bit of a pedal noob. For eg i like to keep my guitar in E/Drop D but also play alot of D standard and Drop C
What was your go-to trick when you skated? Anything on lock?
I have always admired you as a composer, I have been writing music myself for several years and have experience in this matter, is there an opportunity to write a song together, or just hear an assessment of creativity?
What is your favorite album art cover for sylosis. And what is your favorite non sylosis album art ?
Hey, Josh. Do you still make visual arts? I really liked it (shrine, album covers, etc). Also, is there any chance of getting Passages on spotify?
Hi Josh !!
My band released couple of singles, and for the last 4 years we played only venues in our country.
I wanted to ask, how you can actually get from our point of playing local shows to play shows abroad?
Do you have any tips for us?
Thank you❤
Best overdrive to boost an Evh 5150iii?
Any US shows coming up bro?! If so any in the south?????
How do you come up with your lyrical themes?
Will you ever record in E standard again?
Also, there are a lot of choruses on the new album. Is that a formula you plan on sticking with?
👌
When are you coming to USA?❤
What was the local scene like in Reading when you started out? I’m from nearby Fleet so interested to know!
And did you ever play at the Agincourt in Camberley?
Regarding tremolo picking, does your technique stem from said metallicas battery gallop or do you angle your wrist like van halens eruption?
What made you go from Les Pauls and Marshalls to Super Strats and plugins?
Would you ever colab with Jeff Loomis on a solo project now that hes left Arch enemy. I would absolutely love to hear you're influence/ style combined with his
I thought Alex Skolnick and Marty Friedman would’ve been a sure shot for favorite metal lead players. Great answers though
Didn't cliff write that to live is to die solo, or at least the basis for it?
what were the main reasons for selling the Gower modded amps and which one did you prefer? it would be really cool to get them in a plugin format one day 👀
I would absolutely LOVE a Tonality type plugin for the 2 Marshalls he had
@@treyherring5726 agreed, my favorite sylosis tones hand down were during the dormant heart era
hey Josh, what happened to the ESP Phoenix II guitar?
With wich bands you always want to Tour with?
had two:
When you write songs you come up with the signing parts first or there’s any particular process you made?
And Any nearly plans to join some festival in mexico with sylosis? 🇲🇽 regards from Mexico City!
Favorite speaker that is not a V30?
How many sessions in the gym did you do to prepare for the filming of the Absent video?
Hi Josh, got tickets for the nottingham show, whos your support acts
I thought this was a metallica and justice for all tone video because of ajfa lol. Still cool video
For AJFA #2: When playing with Architects, how did you go to the super lown tunings, that they use, playing your JM-II? Thicker strings on a regular scale or digital pitch shifting? If pitch shifting, what did you use? Cheers.
Thoughts on last two Metallica albums, also Load/Reload? And do you like any Japanese bands?
I'm really curious about your opinion on 7 string guitars! Would you ever be open to using them tuned to B-standard on a future record as opposed to continuing to down tune on a 6 string?
Crazy talk! No Satriani? That’s a fucking travesty. I have been in several car accidents, none my fault. I get that PTSD reaction to sudden breaking.
you are a big fan of the V30, have you tried the DV77?
Any plans on Sylosis touring in the US?
Will you play Empty Prophets live given it’s the top song on Spotify?
Josh, could you describe the AJFA guitar tone?
