I wish to understand under what mental process some people have come to mark with a "dislike" this video. This is a superb Magnificent performance of this master piece by a Master Violin player.
Wonderful playing by Phenomenal Ferras and his great, superb, acompanist Barbizet ! Many THx for this treasure !!! PS. Two giants that cannor be forgoten ...
Bonsoir , En effet rare live Paganini du concerto No 1 de 1954. Une Musique sublime, le mot n'est pas trop fort. Ecouter et apprécier. Grace a Mr: mightysmeagol . Merci du partage.
To all the Ferras fans: there exists another version of Paganini Concerto No.1 performed by Christian Ferras and NDR Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt. Rare 2 CD set, which is taken from a NDR broadcast: TAHRA 568/569 Inétits H. Schmidt-Isserstedt (Pachelbel, Haydn, PAGANINI, Bruckner).
You just cant help responding to some performers can you. Thank you Christian Ferras I keep coming back to your recordings and of course thanks to Niccolo Paganini for the most operatic violin writing of any composer. Thanks for posting.
what a wonderful performance ! Ideal... I knew Ferras of course but it is always a surprise to listen to a performance like that. This Paganini interpretation suits perfectly to my aesthetics. Thanks for Posting !! Petros
The more I listen to Ferras, the more I realize that whatever he is playing, it is better than anyone else. And it’s not even that close. He can be sloppy, out of tune, whatever, but it’s still superior every time
He's in a class of his own. There is heart in every note, extreme sensitivity to texture, fast expressive reaction time, mastery of delicacy and mastery of ZZZHHHHTTTTT, a decisiveness of the illusion he is creating. the instrument simultaneously disappears and is highlighted.
March 5, 1954 concert at the Salle Gaveau in Paris. Cadenza written by René Benedetti, Ferras professor at the Paris Conservatory from 1944 to 1946. Played piano reduction by Pierre Barbizet. There is a record of the same concerto, but with Orchestra, recorded in November 1954, here are the references. NWDR Sinfonieorchester, H. Schmidt-Isserstedt - live 11/1954 - TAH TAH 568/9
Many superb violinists but none like Ferrras. Please, listen to him play Sibelius' violin concerto, especially movement # 2. Soon after, he committed suicide, just like Tchaikovsky days after Pathetique, who considered it his best ever composition.
Wow...He really brings out the beauty in Paganini! You totally forget that this is considered a virtuoso piece. Is Barbizet playing the accompaniment? He also adds to the performance.
quelles sont les références de ce disque ? .. c'est fabuleux ! ... au niveau expressivité, Ferras est-il dépassable ? sérieux ! / what are the references of this record? ... it's fabulous! ... on the level of expressivity, is Ferras surpassable? serious!
Michael Rabin was great; one of the greatest. My former teacher, Elizabeth Ivanoff Hiolborn, took lessons from Ivan Galamian & knew him. I've also read the lugubrious biography of Rabin. Incidentally, when Oistrakh met Rabin & saw him demonstrate some Paganini, he replied, "I can't do that." Of course, Oistrakh didn't have to do anything more than he did. Rabin, however, did not play Paganini any better than did Eugene Fodor, whose technique impressed even Heifetz. It's a shame Heifetz never recorded any of the Paganini concerti. Heifetz didn't want to stigmatize himself as a technical artist. He was already being blamed for playing coldly even though he is the hottest violin virtuosi of all time. Salvatore Accardo also did a magnificent job with Paganini.
@dkurgano you play quite well, dkurgano, not bad at all, though your staccato in 05:30 is a bit tight for the contexted expression, and in 10:53 your vibrato is a bit loose for the temporal requirements. work on it!
@dkurgano I just tried to join the club. I mean chaspo's remark was so weird, your answer so sharp, I found it an opportunity to have fun. see, I admire ferras. heard him almost 40 years ago in a peroformance of Beethoven's concerto in Oslo. he was godly. his suicide is a tragedy. the paganini performance here is stunning. hope you forgive my acidic impulsive sarcastic comment
Not supposed to be a superficial listener of classical music. The pianist Barbizet is also a genius. He has collaborated with Ferras for a long time, and their tacit understanding has far surpassed that of the orchestra.

Merci, exceptionnel. Mon violoniste préféré. ❤
Merveilleux violoniste! Merci 🤗😍

Heavenly player. Incredible talent.
Incredibly great player.
merci pour cette playlist de Christian Ferras , je croyais être la seule à reconnaitre son talent, ravie de voir que ce n'est pas le cas

Not among the best but by far the BESΤ.
Sounds like Ferras. Listen to the contrast in tone between themes.
@chaspoll1 yes, its actually me playing
❤

Really? both killed themselves? Hum the classic music must not be enough for happiness and satisfaction. Too bad.
😰
What is this piano reduction? Definitely not my favorite piano reduction but incredible violin playing by a great master.

Hello, where is this recording from? From a Vinyl? I never found any mention of this record anywhere.
Thank you ;)

@eliyaguy haha my bad :) my sense of humor leaves me sometimes. you just never know with youtube... :)
When it comes to technical pieces, Michael Rabin is the best. I truly adore his music and technique. Absolutely rare and precious!

@chaspoll1 its ferras for sure.... just listen to that vibrato lol
Sounds like a human violin singing...
who wrote the cadenza??????
ferras is amazing!!!!!among the best ever....thanks for posting
cocaine....ahahahh
Have you guys checked Rabin's recording of this? As amazing as this is, I vastly prefer his to any other.
@dkurgano ok, you smile again... (=;
Nevertheless this beautiful playing the PAGANINI is by ALDO FERRARESI...

Unfortunately, we only hear the first movement here.
Rene Benedetti
Yea right...Photoshopped??!! Come on, Perlman get over it and get back to your own channel!
what a shame it's with piano ... sigh.
Not supposed to be a superficial listener of classical music.
