I've always said that if I ever take over Microsoft that I will include all themes all the way back from Windows 3 up to the current, and with the ability to change, mix and match things. For example, I use the recycle bin icon from Windows 7 because I think it looks the best. Back in my younger days, ironically when I had XP, I was able to change the recycle bin to a toilet and it made the flush sound when I emptied it. For some reason, I thought that was hilarious. I'd like to think I've matured since then, but I've noticed it's a lot harder to make Windows do what I want it to do, and if you're not too careful you can really hose your system. For the most part, now, if it's not broken, I don't fix it. I do have a "Break Me" computer to mess around with. The Tiny System I installed is really slowing down though.

Just fixed it! You can do Control Alt Delete, run task manager, go to start up tasks, and disable retrobar to run at start up. from there, if you're like me and it happened around the open shell menu installation phase (I installed it, then had the issue), when you're in the task manager menu, while you're in the start up app screen, right click on something and choose "open file location". from there, it will open a file explorer page and you can search open shell commend, run the installation file for it, then click the uninstall/remove button, then once that's finished removing/uninstalling the files, restart/shut down & start back up the computer and it should all be fine.
What I often notice from the use of the programs you mention is that it isn't exactly efficient nor effective. classic shell/open shell appears to be the same program. There's an option once installed to change explorer settings. Classic shell start menu allows changing menu's to cascade etc, i've never bothered with the explorer settings. Classic also allows for listings in columns to be menu based rather than links as well as changing menu delay etc. That what your after ?
I'm going to get WindowsBlinds 11. As I do hate the flat look of Windows 10 and 11 as it makes it hard to see what you are looking at when trying to navigate. Will probably do something more similar to Windows 7, but it doesn't have to be just like it.
That’s great but how do I remove it all when I don’t want it anymore…I thought it was as simple as deleting the files but now my taskbar is just permanently blank.

Windows XP is my FAVORITE OS for Windows! Wish they would make a Win 12 built from "XP"
Unfortunately the retrobar suffers from glitches and doesn’t stay on all the time. It has context menu called “exit” like bro, my brother in Christ no I don’t never ever want to return to 11 horrendous atrocity that is its start menu
Edit: AND taskbar
I didn't have any issues with it. You might want to check out the message board on the GitHub page and see if anyone else is having that issue. Might be a fix for it.
does it still have issues or have you stopped using it?
@@Pluto2Mars-im1mn Windows 11 have long returned show bottom text option and has since then improved with Classic Shell, no reason for me to come back.
Yes man. Windows XP & Windows 7 was the best Windows. After that it's all win sucks. Good video. I appreciate. Thanks man.
Thanks for your help!
where do i get the shell 32 from xp? there is no link
I love the windows xp startup and shutdown down tune
th-cam.com/video/zVyN-P78zyk/w-d-xo.html
What about the sounds like the start up sound shutdown sound any error sound stuff like that
That's a great point. I should have done that in the video. I didn't think about it. Yes, you absolutely could. Very easily.
@@CyberCPU how would you do that? Can u/did u make a vid on this?
@@tspryaviation I covered it in one of the other Windows mods videos. I can't remember for sure which one it is. I believe it was the Windows 98 one possibly.
@@CyberCPU Rich, can you add the icons link that You used?
Yo, I was trying to use Open Shell, but for some unknown reason, it makes my computer glitch tf out and it doesn't even pop up when i press the start menu, my screen just repeatedly goes popping up and out and up and out, idk how to explain, but do you know how I could possibly fix it? or, are there any alternatives?
i remembered that XP is the only OS that can play GIF file back then.
You probably won't see this but thank you so much!
the xp.dll thing website is not showing up but still great tutorial :D
I loved windows 7, even though i barely used it. I switched to windows 7 in 2012/13. And to windows 10 in 2015. My new laptop at the time didn't support windows 7 and it's drivers. I was so angry that i didn't have a chance to run 7 anymore.
Let's see somebody make Win11 look like 3.1. Truly a challenge. Pointless, but a challenge.
Nice. And if the rightclick menu have been changed to the old style, the working layout would nearly have been complet. Keep up the good work Rich :-)
classic shell/open shell appears to be the same program. There's an option once installed to change explorer settings. Classic shell start menu allows changing menu's to cascade etc, i've never bothered with the explorer settings. Classic also allows for listings in columns to be menu based rather than links as well as changing menu delay etc. That what your after ?
@@scorpnz4433 As I understand is Classic Shell not updated anymore. Open Shell is 🙂
@@johnpedersen8387Oh wow open is to looks like its bye bye cs then
I'm going to get WindowsBlinds 11. As I do hate the flat look of Windows 10 and 11 as it makes it hard to see what you are looking at when trying to navigate. Will probably do something more similar to Windows 7, but it doesn't have to be just like it.
Great video Friend! Thanks for always sharing with us!💖👍😎JP
Damn…with this + Winamp remaster I’m back in my comfort zone!
Making an analog horror, this helped
That’s great but how do I remove it all when I don’t want it anymore…I thought it was as simple as deleting the files but now my taskbar is just permanently blank.
NICE. I don't think the Category view for Control Panel is the traditional view...
The more you look at Windows 11 the more it looks broken ... and not just a bit
does this work for win10 and/or win8?
It should. However, I didn't test it.
How do I uninstall Open Shell for windows 11?
