      I miss WinXP and 7 and also a bit of 10. I have Windows 11 right now and it's pretty nice to use, either that or I'm really used to it. The only thing I really hate about new stuff these days is the needing accounts/online and bloat.

      I personally prefer the 2000/me look personally, xp felt like the lego theme (yes there were complaints about luna looking like a toy) I still think macOS looks better than Win11, it's just way cleaner and apple is better at UX/UI than Microsoft.

    I've always said that if I ever take over Microsoft that I will include all themes all the way back from Windows 3 up to the current, and with the ability to change, mix and match things. For example, I use the recycle bin icon from Windows 7 because I think it looks the best. Back in my younger days, ironically when I had XP, I was able to change the recycle bin to a toilet and it made the flush sound when I emptied it. For some reason, I thought that was hilarious. I'd like to think I've matured since then, but I've noticed it's a lot harder to make Windows do what I want it to do, and if you're not too careful you can really hose your system. For the most part, now, if it's not broken, I don't fix it. I do have a "Break Me" computer to mess around with. The Tiny System I installed is really slowing down though.

      @VArterJr ปีที่แล้ว

      @@crimesforgottenbytime , Stardock has good docs on their site. The taskbar should be themed (minimally) by WIndowBlinds. They also have Start11 (or Start10 depending on your version of Windows). That lets you go crazy with Start Menu and TaskBar customization. But WindowBlinds should skin it to some extent depending on the theme you choose. There are also a ton of WindowBlinds videos here on TH-cam if you are new to it.

    XP was 100% the best version of Windows, nothing even comes close. The UI was very very user friendly, intuitive and responsive without all the extra intrusive bloat that modern windows has. The start menu was insanely good, especially the search function. XP was also incredible when it came to backwards comparability of older software. It didn't hog a lot of resources either, it was very well optimized.
    I dont think my praise of XP is biased either as i started on Windows 95 and probably used Windows 7 or 8 the longest.

    I ran Win XP for 9 years and would still be running it if not for Microsoft's critical error update which crashed my system. I called and complained only to hear that I should upgrade to Vista at the time, As Microsoft wouldn't be offering any more updates for XP. I had to buy a new computer after the update which killed my whole computer, Got Win Vista lasted 7 months before I had major issues with it as I wasn't online enough to get all the updates to keep it running. 1 month later bought an old used laptop with XP and ran it for 2 years without Microsoft updates and it worked perfectly. Moral of the story Microsoft doesn't care about you only making money at the customer's expense. In 2011 bought a new win 7 pc and updated to 8 in less than a day, After 13 days Microsoft allowed an upgrade to 8.1, After that and still to this day 12 years later still using 8.1. Got a newer win 11 computer 3 weeks ago, Now just wishing I hadn't wasted my money, Useless OS!!!!!!!! May as well me Miloonium Edition.

You can do Control Alt Delete, run task manager, go to start up tasks, and disable retrobar to run at start up. from there, if you're like me and it happened around the open shell menu installation phase (I installed it, then had the issue), when you're in the task manager menu, while you're in the start up app screen, right click on something and choose "open file location". from there, it will open a file explorer page and you can search open shell commend, run the installation file for it, then click the uninstall/remove button, then once that's finished removing/uninstalling the files, restart/shut down & start back up the computer and it should all be fine.

    What I often notice from the use of the programs you mention is that it isn't exactly efficient nor effective. While yes Stardock products are actively updated frequently, it wouldn't make it feel like it. I cannot stress enough how great Visual Styling is, in combination with StartIsBack 11's equivalent program you can get that back.
    However, some of the great artists on Deviant Art died out for legacy Windows skinning and a scamming end-user is making these fake ones that will damage your PC.
    Only do these things if you know what you're doing.

    I'd go back to Windows 2000. The best description of XP I heard at the time of release was that it was too "Fischer-Price".
    In all honesty though, it was around the time of XP I started migrating to Linux. At the time, Canonical was distributing free CDs of Ubuntu.
    After installing Ubuntu for the first time, it took awhile to get used to the differences. I spent a month trying to wrap my head around things like installing software from repositories.
    Took a while to migrate fully, maybe a year. These days none of personal machines are Windows. Once every few months I use Windows 10 installed in vbox virtual machine running on my Debian 11 box.

    I loved windows 7, even though i barely used it. I switched to windows 7 in 2012/13. And to windows 10 in 2015. My new laptop at the time didn't support windows 7 and it's drivers. I was so angry that i didn't have a chance to run 7 anymore.

      classic shell/open shell appears to be the same program. There's an option once installed to change explorer settings. Classic shell start menu allows changing menu's to cascade etc, i've never bothered with the explorer settings. Classic also allows for listings in columns to be menu based rather than links as well as changing menu delay etc. That what your after ?

    I'm going to get WindowsBlinds 11. As I do hate the flat look of Windows 10 and 11 as it makes it hard to see what you are looking at when trying to navigate. Will probably do something more similar to Windows 7, but it doesn't have to be just like it.
