    Really getting through the groundworks now, Tim. Just one wee observation - at 14:20, just be careful sitting the mini-ex track parallel and so close to the edge of the excavation and maybe your banksman could wear a hard-hat? I know it's hot but an accidental swipe off a mini-ex or walking into the boom is not recommended!

    Always the way Tim, whenever I've tried to save some of the existing structure part way through the job it ends up making more sense to remove the lot and start again. You would think we would learn but we still do it again and again 😂 really starting to progress now with an extra pair of hands!

    Just a bit bigger job than you used to tackle 4 or 5 years ago. 😮

    Surprised there isn’t a plan to harvest rain water for the toilets. With that amount of roof area could probably fill the pool pretty quickly 😂

      We have got some plans for that however a bore hole is planned so may make sense to use that for everything.

    Have you been to Venice recently? Those canals were the same colour.

    This is like 'Triggers Brush', what are you actually keeping original? Just the shape of the building?

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The main steel frame, plus the original cladding materials. Fortunately we pushed for a full app so gives us the chance to be a bit more thorough than a simple conversion. 👍

      It's a horrible old concrete shed, people should be able to build what they like, the planning laws in this country are ridiculous, no wonder homes in a lot of areas cost 12-14 x annual salarys.

      It's ridiculous that you've had to go through so many hoops to get this through planning.

    Did I miss when you introduced Tom (is that his name 😬)? He must not live too far away if he's helping you a few times a week. Is he also a farmer? Or what does he do that allows him this flexible schedule?

      Yeah very local, our kids go to school together. He is setting his carpentry business so is working on the barn along side that. great to have help.

    Considered rainwater harvesting for flushing toilets?

    Awful for you. I hope things get sorted for you both soon, you obviously don't deserve any of it. Thank you for the update.

    As I recall humpty dumpty came with the purchase on the land. Did you have any idea how much you would use it?

    Trenches are getting deeper then :). Perhaps there is a benefit to doing them in stages, ie aim for a single lorry load of trench section. Most builders like to dig one day then fill the next day as they like to minimise the risk of something going wrong.

    • @TheRestorationCouple
      @TheRestorationCouple  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s alot of pre fill building control visits though. Plan was to do that and work our way out but as we have pump coming now we need to make use of it in one hit.

      @@TheRestorationCouple But what will you do if it rains hard and all your trenches fill with water, someone has to ask this question! Or there is a heatwave and they all start cracking down the sides??? I think you have to balance a cost saving with how much it will cost to put right if things go wrong with the trenches. Let's hope for a few dry but cloudy days then :).
      Looking at the strip you are planning adjacent to the pool hole, I am not sure how that will work because foundations need a 45 degree line of support under and around them, this was the reason why the founds were not sufficient on the West side ie your new founds were deeper and in the 45 degree line. Perhaps there is enough width between strip and pool though, not so easy to see on camera.
      Might you have to support the deeper area on the South end, or even pile it in that section???

    If you're not water harvesting from that roof you must be mad, you could supply all the water for your toilets and clothes washing plus water all your animals through the summer months and fill the pool wirh one night of rain
