It's been over 16 years since I've first finished this game, and the line at 1:07 stills live in my mind. When I first heard it, it genuinely changed my brain chemistry. "Sorry you have to die today, I promise we'll change things soon." is such a perfect take down of Flynn's stupid naivety of the system he supports. If disobeying a system meant to protect people results in much less suffering and more people saved, then why the hell does it even exist? And the fact that Yuri is fully well aware of his crimes and doesn't try to justify them (or even need to) really helps to sell how much more experienced he is as the protagonist. He knows he's a criminal to the eyes of the law, but he's also knows that he's a hero to the people. I've played well over a hundred different RPGs in my life, but Tales of Vesperia's story still resonates with me the most to this day.
My head canon is that when Yuri looks at his hand before the handshake, he is imagining all the blood he spilt on it and realizes he now has a friend who will help him carry the burden of that blood. That handshake has soooo much symbolism.
I don't know if this comment will even be seen by someone since this is a very old video, but damn I love this scene. The "I already have" is so chilling.
Gahhh this is amazing. I love the dynamics between Flynn and Yuri here and everything about it was fantastic. Great writing work definitely. My only issue is, why did you remove Yuri's hat?! haha
Yuri is like Dr. House, he does things immorally, but he saves the lives of people by breaking the rules, right? He cares the most and is hurt when innocent people die. Flynn is America's justice system rn. They are too idealistic and make all these promises, but don't act on them or they don't work the way they imagined it would and makes things worse.
@@Shadowtron1221 I can tell in the places where they added things the volume sounds off and such really evident with judith, really raven sounds consistent though and though. but this comment of mine is a year old.
No hate to Grant George cuz he does a good job voicing Yuri for the parts that he’s there for but what bothers me is why Namco didn’t just let Troy Baker reprise his role?
@@carlbloke8797 they probably decided he was far beyond their budget when Troy would have done it at whatever price they had to offer, Yuri was his favorite role Money probably wouldn't have even been an issue if they simply asked because the same year Troy returned for Catherine of all things

Man, I'm glad Yuri doesn't try to make his killing sound righteous and acknowledges them for what they are.
They are righteous though
@@Soxviperthis just how strong Yuri's principles are. Even if the ends are objectively good he recognizes that he's still a criminal.
Yuri is just handling the death penalty sooner without corrupt/bribed judges letting offenders go free.
genuinely one of the greatest scenes in gaming history
A true metaphorical clas of the gods
"Murder is a crime."
That is true

Bout to go home and play this as we speak
1:27 Good talk Flynn. Just saying "You're wrong" is not a counterargument.

They remind me of Lelouch and Suzaku.
Also, Kira and Athrun.

ok from what I can tell they didn't make grant george redub this part of the game which I am ok with but at the same time I wanted to compare the two.
They only had Grant for the parts that were brand new.

@@123123s3 I know its a year old. But someone else will have this show up in their recommended one of these days, like it did for me, surprisingly.
