...Hearing this melody suddenly takes me back to the unforgettable 'peaceful' time of popcorn, drinks, friends, a big couch and St. Elsewhere on the TV... Many thanks for reminding me of this, Jan-W
@@gbuff829 ... Indeed, by slightly slowing down the original recording, this has a striking, distinctly positive effect on the worldwide known melody. Watering it down doesn't detract from the vibe the theme gives off! Thank you very much for your reply and the memories (of the 80's) that have surfaced once again after so many years... Jan-W
Excellent transcription! Welldone! It was a pleasure to listen to your version of St. Elsewhere! You are doing something that the great Stanley Jordan would have done! I loved it!
This is very nice.. I appreciate the difficulty of this chord melody playing. You are very smooth in technique and professionally done. Ill listen in to your other videos , thanks for putting this out there... a friend..
Thanks for your comments, Ryan - yeah, there's a lot going on in the original Dave Grusin tune - I had to more or less 'crystallize' down to a form that could be played on guitar - challenging, but fun for me : )
Watching and listening once again my friend...and I listen and watch 3 or 4 times, and I learn, and I am in awe, because this is truly a masterpiece! Best, my friend...
OK, I finally found a place where I can learn sophisticated tunes for solo guitar without having to wade through annoying introductions and blabber from the artist. Thank you for getting right into the playing and leaving the blather out of your performances!
I am stunned! I have taught this song on piano to ear and improvising students for many years and love playing it myself. I never dreamed I could hear it on guitar like that--super amazingly beautiful job! Great taste and choices of chord voicings--thanks for such a refreshing talent!
Melissa Porshia Hi Melissa - thanks so much for your comments - I love this song too, and wasn't even sure arranging it for solo guitar would be possible given the physical limits of the instrument - but I kinda enjoyed the challenge - worked on it for a long time and eventually came up with something that I felt captured the most important elements of the tune - glad you like it.
gbuff829, I'm listening to your incredible arrangement one year later, and I find no other equal to your solo of this composition. Your performance is an inspiration to me. When I retire, which isn't too far away, I will attempt to replicate what you've done here, because it will make me feel 'accomplished'. But it will never be what you've performed here, my friend. Bravo!
+Sandy Harwell - Hey Sandy - thanks for taking time to write - I appreciate the kind words - btw, I do have the arrangement written out (in standard notation) and would be happy to send you a copy if you like - just let me know.Kindest regards,Mark
Thanks, Sandy - very gratifying to get your positive comments on my arrangement - so glad you enjoyed it - I really like the Gretsch sound, too - it actually inspires me to play.
Dude! This is truly worthy of Grusin’s original. Absolutely amazing. Any chance you still have the arrangement around? Would be worth the year+ to learn it!
hi Robert - thanks so much for your comments - I do have the arrangement written out (in standard notation) - it doesn't seem like I can email you through youtube, but you can email me at mcgtrk@hotmail.com and I can send you a copy of the arrangement -
Is there any chance you still have a copy of the arrangement gbuff829? I love this song and you nailed it! Adding this to my guitar list. 💖 I tossed in my email if you would still be willing. becky7777pr@gmail.com
Where can I get a copy of of your score for guitar? You have done a WONDERFUL AND MASTERFUL thing and though barely assume the title guitarist I could spend the rest of my life mastering what you wrote. Needlessly to say my favorite music.
How is it possible that you have only 35 subs (36 now, I just subbed)? This is a brilliant arrangement and masterful playing. My jaw dropped when you brought the bass part in at around the 1:06 mark. You've captured all the essential elements. My favorite version used to be the mid-'80s GRP All-Stars at the Record Plant, now it's your exquisite version. Dave Grusin would be proud. I hope you don't mind if I email you for a copy of the arrangement. I have to study it and see how you made the magic happen. BTW, what model Gretsch guitar is it?
Thanks, Juliet, for your very flattering comments - I do have this arrangement written out (in standard notation only) and would be happy to send you a copy - you can contact me at mcgtrk@hotmail.com
I have always loved this tune, and was thinking tonight that I would like to learn the guitar version. Found this one. I am only a beginner, but ouch. Dont think I have a chance on this one. Wish I could, you play so smooth you make it look easy (for you).. nice job.
I am amazed at this arrangement! You truly captured it! I did my own on a synthesizer adding the parts using the built in sequencing. I captured it pretty well to, but I like you solo arrangement better! By chance, is you arrangement available in sheet music? I'd gladly pay for it if it is!
Thank you for an inspiring performance! That a tune Ive loved thru the years. Could you please send, or tell me how to get, a copy of your arrangment of St. Elsewhere? Many Thanks, Bill Sims

Beautiful rendition. Just wished the tempo was closer to the original version but the amateur guitarist in me is saying that perhaps it wouldn't have come out as clearly and cleanly if it was sped up.
Thanks for your comments, Justin - I know, my version is slower than the original - it's a difficult piece to play and I had to practice it a LOT just to be able to play it at that slower tempo - maybe another 6 months of practice would get me up to full speed : )
Listened to it years ago, and again now Jan 2023. Chills 👍

Thanks for your comments - very difficult piece to play - took me months of practice to be able to play it at a slow speed : )
Ehrlich would have played it this way.
I’d like the standard notation on this piece. I want to play this when I graduate from medical school.
Oiver, did I ever send you my arrangement?
@@gbuff829 you did! But I’m not quite there yet. Thank you again for sharing this.

What if Mark Knopfler plays this...
if he does, I'd love to hear it.
Play at 1.2x speed to get the original cadence (not that this isn't fantastic).
