    I found this beautiful Tiger Swallowtail Butterfly dead in my backyard. Its wings happened to still be in good shape for the most part and I have never seen a dead butterfly outside due the them being so fragile along with birds eating them. This inspired me to preserve its wings in resin and make this one of a kind set of jewelry. Using gold and blackening the silver it was able to match the wings to the metal and I think this come out really nice.

      @@GomeowCreations I'm also someone who has a lot of seemingly unrelated crafty hobbies so seeing you use cross-interest tools is especially satisfying. I have a rolling mill, 3d printer and resin set up (I'd consider myself an amateur in all of those areas) and I love to see people combining the tools to produce something like you have. 😊 Thanks again

      Yeah that is that thing, all the stuff I use are just tools to me so if I can use them to make what I need then great.
      Here is a little bit of a sneak peek at what videos I have coming up.
      I have have like 5 3D printers that I need to make videos about but I also have a 40watt CO2 laser on the way as well so that's going to be very interesting. One more video will be before all of that that mixes 3D printing and inlay rings 😁👍

      @@GomeowCreations I just got a voxel aquila. Had it a week and I'm still learning. Already I'm thinking what jewellers tools I can get it to make (things like saw blade holders maybe? I've seen a fractal vise on thingiverse that looks amazing for stone setting!) I also have machines like a Cameo which lend themselves to vinyl cutting for masks on projects and stuff. 3D printing and inlay rings? That sounds super interesting to me. I need to check that video out.
      Do you build stuff in the woodworking sense? I'm also starting to do that and have put together some nice pieces. I love TH-cam it's the best university in the world isn't it 😊

    Hi Randy! Cool project. I have used already dead butterfly wings before. I was advised by another artist to put the very dry butterfly in a small Tupperware type container with a damp paper towel in the container for 12 hours, THEN cut the wings off the body so the wings don't crumble or fall apart. Then, dry it out a bit for an hour or so, then go for it! Yours turned out beautifully!

    How do you preserve the colour of the butterfly wings? A lot of wings lose their colour after applying resin directly onto them😊.

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These did the same thing and lost the little bit of blue in them they also became translucent.
      I've seen that some people use a plastic film over the top of them, like a lamination and then put them into resin.

    When I put resin on butterfly wings, the wings went from a glittery blue to black. How I do it and keep its color?

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So blue butterfly wings are not actually blue it's a weird light trick that makes it look blue but if you covered with resin it makes that no longer work and they turn black. The only way I know of that you can do this is to get a laminator and laminate them between two pieces of plastic and then cover that in resin and make sure no resin gets in with it

    Great video!!
    I have a question about keum boo , last video you used a hot plate now you use a torch can you explain a little more with the torch technique??
    Thank you Randy!!

    • @GomeowCreations
      @GomeowCreations  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heating it with the torch is a bit harder to keep at the right temp but the trade off is that your not working. Over a hot plate for hours.
      I did make sure to keep it on a ceramic disc so it would hold some heat in. I didn't have too much luck using that hot plate with this due to the prongs lifting it up and it wasn't getting it to the ring temps. So if you have something that can lay flat the hot plate will work fine but if you have something like what I was working with you can use the torch.
      To sum up how I was using it, right before I was going to place the gold I would head the piece and quickly put the gold on.
      I hope that helps
