  • The Tories were on the defensive yesterday after the Prime Minister's D-Day gaffe.
They announced plans to put benefit reform at the heart of their election campaign.
Rishi Sunak has pledged to cut £12 billion from the welfare bill. And the way he plans to do it is by limiting people being able to claim benefits by citing mental health conditions such as depression and anxiety.
Spending on benefits for people of working age who have a disability or health condition is expected to rise from £69 billion to £90 billion in the next four years.

The right love to focus on benefits - where most of the recipients are needing that money to live. And all the money they spend at least circulates back in the economy.
Then you have the real benefits - tax breaks. Think MP expenses - whereby they'll score off tens of thousands of pounds a year in "expenses" while simultaneously fobbing off people on benefits for "taking money off working people".
    Large businesses getting tax breaks.
Wealthy people paying less tax and hoarding money in savings all tax free (I mean the kind of money that people could live in).
PPE schemes offering "businesses" millions of pounds which have been written off.
    Massive hypocrisy.
Too much focus on Benefits - the amount of money "lost" (Lost is a really loose term) there, PALES in comparison to the people fleecing money from the tax payer's purse in the name of "tax breaks" or "tax avoidance" but without the stigmatised name like "benefits".

No I not fiddling benefit and never have this is the first time I ever had to claim it , I have paid into the system for nearly 50 years and never claimed a thing , what I am saying is that the state gives you enough to live on I am genuinely off sick from work at the moment I havd been assessed by my doctors and the benefit system and both have said at the moment I have limted capability, ( for uour information I was in hospital and nearly died and they did tell my family I may not pull though, ) hopefullyI want to return to work heath permitting if I do then my benefits go down , I do only have 10 months left till I retire but would like to carry on working after that I started work when I was 16 and have never been out of work in my life, NO one including myself should EVER better off by not working , but if you are ill and can not work then you should get the minimum to keep your head above water which is my case and I thank the goverment for that, I know people who claim every benefit they have they have no intention of working they have wide screen TV game consuls free food from food banks one person even had all his driving lessons paid for by the system he not worked for 30 years plus but when he retires he get a full state pension without working or paying a penny into it , where I have worked for nearly 50 years its not right, the benefits system as said is there to help when things get tough NOT AWAY OF LIFE,

I'm sure all those ones not working because they are caring for someone, would be thrilled if the government provided a carer for their family member, then they could get back to work. They'll earn more than the 80 quid a week they get for caring. Having said that, the amount of young women getting Limited capability for work & work related activity at the moment through DWP for mental health, is huge. I am about to have a work capability assessment for a physical disability & I know I will have to battle for it, because they seem to focus on the mental health these days for some reason. I have a progressive genetic liver disease & some days shi**ing through the eye of a needle, & other days feel like throwing up, but they'll expect me to go to work.

Things from what the system already has had should be kept I think, like with esa you were able to do something small like 16 hours per week of something, an example I actually got a college grade for an access class which I'm sure it was a light class in comparison to actual work or full-time college classes but it's something, and also I got a book directed to me specific to the condition I have from a counselling session from years back so I basically don't have to see someone. It may be options like that, that could be considered if a website with books that could help is put up rather than a load of mad changes

Because those who are playing the system KNOW the system, and won't get caught out easily.
The genuinely ill, however, can easily answer a question badly, and it'll be used against them.

Many staff have caseloads of more than a thousand claimants, which makes it increasingly difficult to spot fraudulent claims, but DWP funding has been cut since 2010 and their wages frozen for many years.
