byGiNeSiToX they can’t. They need to make a mid front rwd platform, design a car to meet crash regulations, make sure it meets emissions regulations. Hey Chief!/Thatdudeinblue/David :) not trying to correct you, just adding to your prowess - being a previous owner of an 04' AP2 S2000 (in Platinum White) as well as 'Honda Tech' at the time of it's launch; the "2000" was noted solely because of the displacement which was set from the heritage of the S600, S800 and so forth. Though Honda did release it as you say in 1999/2000/2001 (depending which continent you were on) it was scheduled for this time to increase its "grab" into the market at the turn of the age - very decisive as the Japanese are lol. Not only the engine, but the transmission you so admire actually won JD Power's 10 best for every year it was produced (yet I cannot find the link I once saw), and still ranks one of the highest on their list for reliability up to latest review in 2019 year end.. The s2k was the highest naturally aspirated engine until the Ferrari 458 came out. The original ap1 engine with the siamese bore was pretty much taking technology from their race cars and putting it on a street car. It is still my favorite Honda of all time. I love the original nsx. It's got that it factor, and no one knows what the hell it is out in public, but the s2k has the best ergonomics for someone who's 5'6 to 5'10.

The S2000 is an interesting car within the spectrum. I'm totally with you on the comparison to the Viper. Very few cars feel purpose built. Two that uniquely stand out in the car world are the S2000 and the Viper. Both feel singular in intent. They had a design vision, intent, and were well executed towards that intent. They feel...special, and 99.99% of vehicles out there simply do not. Many take a significant amount of modification to actually be interesting or competent. With that said... I personally prefer the transmission in the FT86. I like the shift action better and the gear ratios better. The FT86 has one of my favorite manual transmissions I've used to date. I also think the S2000 engine is a bit hyped, awesome for its time, a little less so today. I also think other engines have become competitive. One in particular that I prefer that did exist in the same era is the Renesis. It has the same redline (as the AP1), same HP, very similar torque, more low and midrange punch (at least against the AP1), and is lower in rotating mass, more rev happy, and smoother in power delivery. In terms of a power plant, it's better in every way. When driven back to back, the S2000 engine isn't as good. The Renesis has its faults, certainly, but it's very underappreciated for what it actually does. It doesn't help that it's stuck in a heavy RX8 and a gearbox with unnecessarily tall gearing (you can go 65mph in 2nd). At the end of the day, I'd rather have a RX8, and do. It's a very similar product but also quite different. Being of the Miata heritage, it feels Miata and is a joy to drive, but it's also soft, VERY soft versus a S2000. It's a GT car first and rolls a TON when on sticky tires. But the chassis is also VERY rigid, vastly more than the S2000, the suspension is very good and utilizes the tire contact patch very evenly (even with body roll). It corners equally well as a S2000. Back to back to back against the S2000 and FT86 platforms, performance is nearly the same, but the character couldn't be different. The FT86 is pretty similar to the S2000 but just feels big and spacious. The RX8 wraps around the driver like the S2000 but is also comfy, quiet, and smooth. It seats 4 actual adults, and cargo too. The S2000 is the right track car. It's is the best tool for this task. But as a sports car and something you regularly own and drive, the RX8 is an amazing mix, all the sports car without the sacrifices. Plus it's insane how cheap they are because everyone's afraid of the Renesis engine. It's basically $3k every 100,000 miles. If you're ok with that, the Renesis isn't a problem.
The road David takes in this video looks awful similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Specifically the part that runs through Asheville NC. Always loved that road.
The Spoon S2000 from Gran Turismo back in the day got me hooked on S2K's.... such great cars in both engineering and aesthetics. a better Miata, like you said 😂 Miata's are dope tho.... those V8 swapped ones are monsters
Love the Spoon Kit, esp in the signature blue and yellow Spoon colors...never was a huge fan of the front Spoon fender and rather stock with rolled look, but a beauty nonetheless. .. only gripe is, I wish Spoon stroked it out to 2.5 L rather than just 2.2L, because power wise a 2.2L AP2 would be pretty much just as comparable so you're really paying for a body kit and increased aero rather than a whole package like with the Amuse kit (assuming you go turbo on that)
I genuinely hope Honda bring back the high revving naturally aspirated VTEC engines. I know they won't be as powerful and economical as turbo engines, but when VTEC kicks in and the car push you hard into the seat as the engine screaming to 9000 rpm, none of that matters. It's all about the feeling that makes your adrenaline pumping.
s2000 name is because of the 2000cc displacement. You can also get a lot of additional power from the s2k without spending a lot of money, it comes with forged internals stock :)
I heard recently that a successor the S2000 is incoming. It will be using the same engine as the current gen civic type R. I'll be very interested to see how that turns out.
Bro your edits are always insane!!!! I need to learn how to edit with shaking and flashing screen to beat like you. Always enjoy your content, keep it up
Shit I'm trying to find Spoon cam gears for my Honda, also I have my eye on Spoon spark plug wires for $250 pretty damn pricey but someday I'll pull the trigger.
The rear reminded me of the Amuse S2000, definitely different when comparing them, but that front is something else ngl. I hope that one day Honda can make something great like the S2000 again.

I think you should start interviewing the owners, loved the video btw
Spoon kit is pricey, but fire. Hope to get one of these 🙏
It was also in fast and the furious Jonny Tran raced against Jessie’s Jetta
Awesome car! I really dig the hood and hardtop
The road David takes in this video looks awful similar to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Specifically the part that runs through Asheville NC. Always loved that road.
The Spoon S2000 from Gran Turismo back in the day got me hooked on S2K's.... such great cars in both engineering and aesthetics.
a better Miata, like you said 😂
Miata's are dope tho.... those V8 swapped ones are monsters
The back bumper in the thumbnail reminded me of the 2000 TVR Cerbera Speed 12 that was in Gran Turismo 4...
This is the hardest 2k I’ve ever laid eyes on
I've been waiting for this video and my dreams come true
I’ve only driven an AP1 and it’s still one of my favorite driving cars
You can also get a lot of additional power from the s2k without spending a lot of money, it comes with forged internals stock :)
does anyone know what that thing on top of the dash is at 0:45?
A used Spoon EK cluster gauge is being sold at 10k USD
6:24 do you mean oversteer?
I heard recently that a successor the S2000 is incoming. It will be using the same engine as the current gen civic type R. I'll be very interested to see how that turns out.
Bro your edits are always insane!!!! I need to learn how to edit with shaking and flashing screen to beat like you. Always enjoy your content, keep it up
Shit I'm trying to find Spoon cam gears for my Honda, also I have my eye on Spoon spark plug wires for $250 pretty damn pricey but someday I'll pull the trigger.
Its worth it its pricey as far as the part goes itself compared to other cars but trust its worth it to get their pack
@@ethixhiggins5059 yeah I know I can't afford everything in spoon so I'm splitting it up with Skunk2 and Spoon parts for my car.
@@Frank7G its just as good imo. What are you building on?
@@ethixhiggins5059 2000 Si the one that's on my TH-cam user pic

You should get you an s2000 . What a sweet ride.😎
I wanna get a hard top for my S2K but driving with the top down is another whole experience
that's the most beautiful s2000 i ever seen
The rear reminded me of the Amuse S2000, definitely different when comparing them, but that front is something else ngl. I hope that one day Honda can make something great like the S2000 again.
I wonder if there will be enough S2K's left for me when I finally can have two cars...
