I’ve seen the panther 2 times in my life. The first time I seen a panther I was around 10. Me and my 2 brothers were above our house. At the edge of the timber we seen something that was the size of our German shepherd. We thought it was our dog. But our dog was laying on the carport because we started yelling for him. He didn’t want nothing to do with the big cat he didn’t even bark at it. We took off running to the house. No one believed us. The second time I seen a panther we were riding at a through the ridge. As we came around a sharp curve a huge black cat was sitting in the middle of the road. It stood up and jumped over the hill. We stopped and you could hear it over the hill. I thought it would be funny to call it like you do a house cat. I go here kitty kitty. It let out a loud high pitched scream. We started the atv back up and floored it getting out of the area. I told a game warden about it he just laughed and said you probably seen a stray cat. I was out of high school. I knew what a house cat looked like. Thanks for sharing your stories.
WOW that's amazing my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. God bless you. Your very welcome.
WOW That's amazing my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. God bless you. Your very welcome.
I’ve seen them too but I’m located in western Kentucky. You’re right they aren’t house cats. Nobody can mistake a house cat for a large predator
Thanks for sharing. Great stories. I believe them. I had to chuckle a little at the reaction of your dog and what the look on your faces must have been when he didn’t come running lol. As far as the warden goes, I bet he knew exactly look y what cat you were talking about. They are trained to say things like that to keep the public panic down. I bet it’s recorded in log where they track that thing.
I think it's more dangerous for the Wardens to lie like that. People need to know there are predators out there and be aware of their surroundings.
Haints and boogers. I love these stories so much.
Awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing.
Thank you, Donnie and Mountain Kurt, for keeping these old stories alive. I enjoyed listening to all of them.
Many thanks, God bless.
Good morning my friend. Thanks so much. Your very welcome.
Wow these were great. My momma called them haints too. The way he describes that panther was chilling. So black that it was almost blue and shiny, lets you know that cat has been eating good. It’s scary that one would be in town, but I always stop and think about maybe it doesn’t know it’s in a town. Maybe that land was its home before the golf course was built. I want people to be safe and unharmed but I also feel for these creatures that call these areas home. Kinda like areas where the Cherokee were there first and had it invaded and taken away. There’s been many supernatural stories of stairs & doorways. I believe them. So nice to meet your friend and his beautiful dulcimer music. Thanks brother.
WOW Thanks so much for sharing this my friend. God bless you. Your very welcome.

I saw a black panther once. I live in Kingsport, Tennessee and at the time I lived near the base of Bays Mountain. Beautiful country. As I was going to town one day sitting on the edge of the road was the most beautiful black shiny animal I had ever seen. At first I thought it was a dog because of its size and then I looked a second time and saw it was a cat. It was gorgeous, shiny black, and very muscular.

Thank you gentlemen! I grew up in the Appalachian mountains of PA and have similar stories to tell. It's a good thing to share them because it's sharing knowledge that is invaluable. Not believing a fact doesn't change reality, it's still a fact and of course experience always makes people believers.
Awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing this. God bless you. Your very welcome.
You sir are a national treasure ❤️ Thank you for sharing your stories. These mysteries are my favorite from the ole timers. Only the Good Lord knows what we have in our Appalachia mountains

These stories reminded me of the times families of all ages would tell some of the most interesting stories. I didn't realize just how special these times were. Some were scary, some sad and some that make us laugh so hard. Thank you Donnie for waking these memories up in my heart and mind. Stay safe 🙏💙
Awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing your memories. God bless you. Your very welcome.
That last one was the spookiest one. Wow.. I really enjoy hearing these stories. Reminds me of times with my grandparents.
Awesome my friend. Thanks so much for sharing.
We have reports of black bears and panthers now in Middle Tennessee. In fact a warning was put out to the public by TWRA about being on the lookout for bears. A TWRA officer scoffed at the panthers but said you can’t shoot them. I think TWRA has posted pictures of panthers in this area. But I said that if I feel in danger I will defend myself.
Great stories!
WOW Thanks for sharing this my friend.

Good morning Donnie,Thank you for sharing the Unexplained Stories with us. That last one of the blue lady was indeed scary and I would have nightmares if I were those boys. I would be so scared that I wouldn't have wanted to sleep in that room ever again.
My relatives are from the mountains of North Carolina in the Mitchell and Yancey County areas and when I was little I heard something that sounded like a panther near my cousins house and it sounds just like a woman screaming and I was pretty scared. The next morning we were walking around in the woods and saw the tracks from a panther so what we heard was truly a panthers scream.
I hope you have a Great weekend and I'll see you Monday on As the Ridge Turns.😊❤🙏🏻
WOW Thanks so much for sharing your experiences with us my friend. Thank you. God bless you.

I can relate to Mountain Kurt's story about feeling something walk or pass right through you. Many thanks for sharing these stories.
WOW Thanks for sharing. Your very welcome.
Great video Donnie, I really appreciate hearing the old folk stories & Old Curt’s ability to draw you right into the tale as he recounts it is every bit as masterful as yourself. Funny that there’s a panther legend that belongs to the Appalachias as well, we too have a panther legend “The MacArthur Panther” as it’s colloquially known. Some folk say that it could have possibly been a Circus animal/s that had gotten loose after a road accident & the cage broke open. Although that kinda sounds like it might be a viable explanation, the persistent sightings kept occurring long after a big cat, even though it would have encountered no native animals that would be considered a threat, could have survived in the wild. A more reasonable explanation I figure is a feral cat. They also have no threats here and hunt with impunity, absolutely decimating the native wildlife. A few generations of this behaviour being a feral animal, these cats can get unnervingly large. It would be easy to mistake one for an escaped panther, only catching a fleeting glimpse as they disappear into the bush.
Perhaps the one you guys are describing is a real big cat & not just a feral tabby. Cougars are residents of the Appalachia’s aren’t they?
Anyhow, I thoroughly enjoyed the video.
Also, just out of curiosity, have you done any covering Bluegrass & folk music of the mountains? I went back a ways on your channel (some 3 years or so) but couldn’t find any. Unless I didn’t go back far enough and I missed them. If not, a video on the beautiful music that was born up in the mountains would be some great videos.
Thanks for sharing your incredible corner of the world with us
Thank you Donny for the wonderful stories and the soothing voice that tells them..
You took me back when you showed Kurt playing the dulcimer.. I love the dulcimer.. I always wanted to learn to play it but life happened and I never got the chance.. so, I so appreciate your reminding me of it . God Bless you...
