Had an MT-10 with Black Widow decat pipe. Traded it in for a Harley Davidson Fat Boy and had Vance & Hines installed. Have made videos of both. Watched both videos and compared sound today. Both sound excellent. Do not miss the modified (head light) MT-10 however.
Awesome video, wish you'd done it before I did mine. Had to guess my way through it. I bought my FZ10 (US version) at the launch in 2017 and imidiately bought a prototype Termignoni decat pipe and it was a bit of a pain to get it to line up the mount bolt at muffler. Amazing how loud and incredible it sounds. Sounds very Rossi GP even with the stock pipe. Thing I figured was back then, the only aftermarket pipes available were all the same diameter outlet as the factory can SO why pay $800 for a can when it will sound identical and the factory can looks great and is titanium. Made no sense to me. Definitely my favorite sounding bike for sure! I'm a big Aprilia V4 sound lover but the crossplane 4 is my new favorite. I have the armor grey and fluorescent color combo, would have LOvED an SP but of course they weren't out at launch and you can NOT find them in the US. I just sold mine to a popular TH-cam motoVlogger in the US "the muscle biker" a month ago (biggest mistake of my life! Great guy and cool to see myself in his video and be able to see my bike in daily vlogs but really miss the bike! ) the vlogger has a ZX6R and an Aprilia RSV4 SBK Factory but did a cave job himself on it and screwed up the motor SO needed another vlogging bike and bought mine. I've had a lot of sport bikes, R6's, a Ducati 999R Fila, '06 R1, '15 R1 but was in an accident and bad back now so sport bikes are painful to ride now. Decided to try a super-naked upright sport , narrowed it down to the Aprilia Tuono v4 Factory and the soon to come out FZ10 (MT10) in the end after lots of research the aprilia was $4,000 US more than the Yamaha . There are NO Aprilia dealers within a 1,000 miles of me so factory service is nearly impossible And beyond that I LOVE the crossplane 4 and was excited to feel it retuned for low and midrange power , added cruise control and upright seating. TRULY can say the FZ10 was the most enjoyable bike I've ever owned and feels faster becaue of the torque than my super sports did. Also a bike that even with a bad back, I could ride for 12 hours straight with no pain. Greatest commuter ever! I'm definitely getting another one, should have never sold it. Sure be amazing to find an SP! Too bad it's nearly impossible here in the US. Glad I came accross your channel , I'll sub! 👍 ride safe brother!
Like the sound but not sure I could cope with the noise on longer tours. So far my cat is still in place. Think I would need an end pipe that did a reasonable job of keeping the noise down.
Utter waste of a comment, it’s not an exhaust but a decat link pipe 🤔 nothing wrong with it tbh but I chose a Leovince decat pipe to go with my Akrapovic end can “exhaust” later
I'm coming to a decision that I want an MT10 SP as my next bike. And I want one over a 2015 onwards R1. I've had a 2004 R1 for nearly 9 years and I love the Yamaha brand. I had a test ride on a standard MT10 and I loved it.
I put a decay on and took off as mental loud, happy with the Akra R1 end can bit deeper and nice sound. Don’t need any weight removed it has more power than needed anyway 😂👍 thanks Jim
Was too loud for me Dan too! But I did however find the best for me solution in the way of Leovince Decat link pipe which has a resonator box so quieter and mixed with the akra end can was the perfect note as in my latest videos 👍 thanks for the sub and watching 🙏
MotoUK thats it, ive just come from an excessively loud harley , and now my young lad of 5 nearly 6 has started riding pillion i dont want him deaf by age 7 lol. I want it to sound a little gruntier dont get me wrong, but i think a full de-cat and end can is just going to be too much for me in terms of sound.. it sounds daft too, i actually dont like the look of a decat pipe on the MT10 , leaves a big area of just “nothingness” looks like something is missing, cant put my finger on it but i think the bikes side profile looks better with the cat on . Each to their own though!! Cheers..

I have a 23 MT10. Would I be able to fit a BW end can on the link pipe? I noticed the pupe diameter was exactly the same when I last checked against the OEM.
Really easy, I undo them, when I put them back I twist them round a few times opposite way then when screwed back in all good. Easy. If you’ve had an ecu flash and turned the o2 sensors off you can plug the holes and Un clip the o2 sensors take them off 👍
So i dont have the black widow decat on any more i swapped to a Leovince cat delete with resonator box, also the akrapovic i added a baffle so noise level is good and no issues on long motorway journeys.

@@Different-Level black widow sent me the link for free to test originally and I had it on for two weeks before swapping to the Leovince one as I found the black widow one too loud and the Leovince one was spot on
@@MOTOUK1 Fair enough, i put it on with the R1 akrapovic but it sounds a little weird to me, like something is blocking its full potential. Also I didn't get any engine lights or error codes do you know why this could be? Do I still need a servo eliminator? Thanks :)
Did you disconnect the servo you mean an not get any warning lights? When I decatted the bike I had a woolich ecu flash dyno as if you decat recommended as the bike runs lean and will have a flat spot mid range. In the woolich ecu flash they switch off the servo so no warning lights, has your bike been flashed before you got it
Ivan mc keown yes I connected o2 sensors back up although they are switched off in the Ecu when I had the woolich Ecu dyno time done. It’s loud with a link pipe 👍😃
Hi Terry, yes I put the cat back on. Mainly because I don’t like too much noise. With the current set up I use cat on and r1 akra end can that has a 2 inch bore it’s just right for me. Each to there own on noise though. 👍👍
@@MOTOUK1 yes i know but on the stock muffler/silencer. the connection on the muffler dont look like stock inet connection. on the original slipon there is a gasket on it but your stock slipon looks diffrent where you clamp it to the link pipe
If your going to put a link pipe on best to get Ecu flash as you loose a bit of torque low down and the bike runs lean. If you just change the end can and leave the cat in place no need to flash

@@MOTOUK1 thanks for fast reply. Can I use any muffler I want? For example Aliexpress had a muffler that will fit the stock link pipe but I also know mufflers from China have bad padding. Or do I need to buy a better muffler that is more developed and with padding, for example mivv, gpr etc. It's just a offline ecu flash recommended or take it to a store and run a dyno and flash ecu meanwhile he run on dyno
So if your keeping the cat on the bike and only replace the muffler then any exhaust is ok. If you decide to decat then you can either so a postal flash, where you post your ecu to the tuner to flash or if you want to be 100% accurate a full dyno run during ecu flash to get the fueling correct with a Decat. I think in U.K. postal flash is £250 and full dyno is £350 👍
Great thanks mate. I have done a offline flash before from Swedish fastbikez since I live in Sweden but it was not good flash so I took my old bike to a real tuner and run it on a dyno for 6 hours but he charged me 650 pounds I will start with just remove muffler and then see hehe

Ecu flash I gained about 8bhp at the wheel, when I had it flashed and custom mapped on dyno I got 154 bhp at wheel and that was with Akra end can but not decatted! I put the decat pipe on and took it off again as too loud. This week I will add a Leovince Decat pipe as they have a resonator box on and a little quieter.
Yes agreed, even without a decat the MT10 in standard form has this between 5k & 6k seen it on the dyno. If you de cat you need either a flash or PC5. Bike does like back pressure and gets better dyno results with cat in place
There's a guy/company in the US called NelsTune, he's a legendary crossplane 4 tuner , extremely affordable Jsut remove the ECU , mail it to him , tell him your mods and he tunes it to that set up. Seen video of impressive HP gains on the dyno with Jsut a filter, Y-pipe and NelsTune flash. He gets rid of the flat spot. Great broad curve after.
I did a prototype Y pipe from Termignoni when I bought my MT10, yes it's loud but not obnoxious in my opinion. Sounds very Moto GP crossplane 4 and here in the US with the moronic drivers it's necessary to be heard or it's a daily fight for your life with cars. Best investment I've ever made on a bike! But sure it's not for everyone. I Jsut hated how quiet it was with a cat. Could barely hear it when on the freeway which is the point for some people but for me I LOvE that ripping crossplane 4 screaming unrestricted.

So I had already had a flash with cat in place, wanted to hear what the link sounded like and was on a stock can at that time, was too loud for me so it came off wishing a day. I have since added a R1 Akrapovic with baffle and a Leo vince decat, now I am perfectly happy with the sound, not too noisy through town but open her up to 5k and she sings. I did have it flashed again to suit the decat and akra
Yes if you put a de cat link pipe it is recommended to flash as the bike already runs lean and once the cat is off then even leaner which is not good for the engine.

No I took the decaf off, was too loud for me. Some guys have done a defat then added a baffle kit to the Akra. I find it loud enough with cat and akra. But my akra is from an R1 so 2 inch bore as MT10 akra is 1.5 inch bore

Is the bike much louder when you put the decat pipe on.? I like the quietness of the stock system bet like the idea of removing all that weight.

Do you have to tuck all those cables away or can you fit the link pipe and reattach the cables to the pipe?
When fitting a link pipe you need to remove the two servo cables take them off. Leave the servo in place or you will get an error code on dash
You put the clamps for the exhaust on upside down the bolts should be towards the top not the bottom

if i just change muffler i dont need remap? but if i do the cat delete i must remap? is that correct?
Yes correct if you change just the end can no remap needed. But if you decat then highly recommend ecu flash as the bike will run too lean.

I love BW products, have full system on my09. Pity they dont make just a slip on for mt10. decat seems too obnoxiously loud

Any decat link pipe will need a ecu flash, also you will lose torque lowdown

I have the akra end can......
No I took the decaf off, was too loud for me. Some guys have done a defat then added a baffle kit to the Akra. I find it loud enough with cat and akra. But my akra is from an R1 so 2 inch bore as MT10 akra is 1.5 inch bore
@@MOTOUK1 that's what I'm thinking. I have the MT10 one that had the baffle fixed. It's a bit too quiet........... I can't be arsed taking all that off to not like it 😂

No bike mot in U.K. don’t do any emission’s and tbh it has a baffle in not had any issues before
