This was so awesome! I’ve said for years that these companies should invest in random retro locations. They would serve as little travel destinations for people like us who enjoy the history.
I'm literally not even lying; if I lived in Scottsdale, Arizona I would totally buy a huge brass bell somewhere and sneak up onto that roof and put it up. This is *too* *cool* that this still exists.
I was born in Scottsdale a few miles from that Taco Bell, it has been there since 1965. I have a clip from my newspaper archive subscription that advertised the open day festivities.
Omg ik where that is lol!!! Whenever my mom got off of work and she wanted taco bell i used to place a mobile order here since it was the closest one to her! Now i now what it actually looks like!
Been living in Scottsdale for the past 53 years, and first went to this Taco Bell back in the early seventies. Frfr And unfortunately, the Kmart is no longer directly across the street. An Icee would be really refreshing right now.
That’s exactly like the one we went to all the time when I was a kid in Pomona, CA. It was next to old an school McDonalds, Arby’s and an Orange Julius! Great memories from a time when you could feed a family of four for under ten bucks! Lol
I moved into the subdivision behind this Taco Bell in 1959 when I was four. The building was built as a new Taco Bell in the mid 60's. The same serving/order counter wall was the North exterior wall at the time and had sliding-glass serving windows. All of the seating was outside. There were two large table high gas-fire pits on the outside surrounded by tables/chairs. You could see them burning blocks away. Dinning there after sunset is a memorable experience for me. They eventually discontinued the fire pits due to liability. I remember 19 cent tacos. Good memories. Now I live 20 miles away and often go out of my way just for the memories...Left that area when I went into the military in 1974. That Taco Bell was a big part of my growing up. Thank you for featuring it on your channel. I just subscribed.
Hi. Loved this and many of your posts. You.re not of an age to know, however, what you call a fountain shown in the model of an old Taco Bell was actually a fire pit. Common at most locations prior to the 80's.
I worked at a Taco Bell in the late 70's. We'd steal the fiberglass bell on the roof from other restraints for sport. NOTE: Original Taco Bells didn't have inside dining.
We have a house in Scottsdale, up some distance away from the city. We rarely make it down into the city, the furthest we usually go is to Scottsdale Airport to catch flights in and out of Arizona. We decided to slum it and have some street food down in Old Town, I ate something called a "hot dog" and it was an interesting experience. After watching this video I am really curious to try a taco.
I grew up a couple miles from that location. In high school, in the early 90s, we used to go there at least 3 nights a week after playing basketball down the street. Now my daughter, who lives in another state sent me a message saying she had found it and wants to go.
I used to visit a location similar to this only because of the colder winters the entire seating area was enclosed. It has since been replaced with the modern shoebox building.
There is another old Taco Bell building I Phx it isn't in use by Taco Bell any more but it still has the original taco bell shaped sign with the new companies signage on it at Central and Thomas.
I've been to this location several times with it being so close to where I work. The prices are better than other locations, the employees are really nice and the quality of the food is usually really good. I just don't go as often now since changing my diet due to acid reflux
I remembered when this Taco Bell opened up. As kids we used to ride our bikes there, we lived in the neighborhood south of it. I think tacos were like 30 cents back then. Circle K used to be to the east of it and Romano's TV and Appliance to the west of it. This store opened between 1968-1970.
Me too! Moved into that neighborhood in 1959 when I was four and went into the military in 1974. Went to Apache School then Coronado High. Loved that Taco Bell. I can't remember how many times I went to Romano's for a television tube replacement or a phonograph needle. I remember a 12 oz. glass bottle of soda at Circle K was 10 cents and twinkies 15 cents. The bottle was worth a two-cent refund. Fun memories.
I drive by this particular Taco Bell a lot as an Uber driver in the Phoenix valley, and don't think much of it, although by the time I first had TB as a kid, the logo on this sign was in use. Also, you want crazy? There's a cheesesteak restaurant on Central Ave north of Downtown Phoenix that not only uses an old TB building, but also uses the old sign shape! Btw I was today years old when I found out about that miniature TB you showed us. Cool!
The food was much better than today i remember when they has a Bell Burger and they use to make their own sauce also out front the had a gas fire on a pedestal and everything was .25 cents
You should do more history on your channel, maybe cut to scenes about the backstory. It would have been cool to show us all the Taco Bell logos throughout the years. Seems like this Taco Bell was all over the place 80s and 90s
I liked that they never updated the building at that location. By the way that was how the original Taco Bells were set up back in the 60's. It would've been crazy if they sold some of the original menu items, they had back then. By the way the Taco Bell where I live used to be a 24 hr location on the weekends and open until 3AM the rest of the week until Covid, the plandemic took place.
There is a Taco Bell in Ft Collins, Colorado that was built in the late 90's which resembles this building but is like an upscale version of a Taco Bell. You need to check it out. Corner of College Drive & Prospect.
Do you have any plans to revisit the Pineville NC CEC? I'm really curious if they have ripped out the bots sadly I'm sure the riding is on the wall and it's bound to happen despite all of our pleas but the question is when is it going to happen if it's not already done? that munch Jr aka Choochoo and building need saving!
Like the old saying goes, you can put lipstick (original site, etc) on a pig, but it is still a pig! Since Pepsi bought Taco Bell the food is just horrendous. In the 60's and 70's was the absolute best. Hmm... wonder if that is because ingredients were all made from scratch in each location then. Hmmm... sort of like a competitor's method?
There was a Peter piper pizza that had tokens around the Arizona but it was changed to passes a while ago I am unsure about the sign I don’t know if it got changed yet
This was so awesome! I’ve said for years that these companies should invest in random retro locations. They would serve as little travel destinations for people like us who enjoy the history.
Amazing how they fit the modern amenities into the classic building.
I used to work at that very taco bell, it was my first job back in 1987
These are the most relaxing videos To wind down to at night🙂
This is our local Taco Bell. Been going there for YEARS. Despite several others nearby, we still call this "the good Taco Bell."
What's the street address of this place. I'll make the drive from North Phoenix
I'm literally not even lying; if I lived in Scottsdale, Arizona I would totally buy a huge brass bell somewhere and sneak up onto that roof and put it up. This is *too* *cool* that this still exists.
I’ve driven by this Taco Bell many times. Love that they’re 24/7 too :3
What are the main crossroads? Would love to go.
@@BrendanFinnstrom it’s on the south side of McDowell rd just west of Hayden rd.
@@cside19 thank you.
In my 20’s I ate between this Taco Bell and the Peter piper pizza just west down McDowell Rd.
My childhood taco bell growing up in Scottsdale! So glad it's still there!
I used to skate to wedge skate park right there, we would all skate over and eat there
"yo quiero taco bell" -some chihuahua from an ad
Me and a group of friends got super drunk and went to this one after the bars closed. Tasted like the best thing in the world

Every time I see that Taco Bell I remember the old commercial "Come to Taco taco taco taco taco taco taco taco taco taco bell" (Ding-dong bell sound)
Been living in Scottsdale for the past 53 years, and first went to this Taco Bell back in the early seventies. Frfr
And unfortunately, the Kmart is no longer directly across the street.

I love how old taco bell's looked like typical mexican houses
Old Taco Bells are the best! It is great to see you go to an awesome place like this!
I used to live there off McDowell, went to that same Taco Bell a million times back in the 90’s.😂
On the way home from Atomic! 💕

I was just getting into the McDonald's tours but now a Taco Bell? Definitely down for this! Mo Mohawkin is needed indeed

If we had a Taco Bell from the 80's like this, I would support the hell out of them.

live here, they used to have an open patio outside with a round brick fire pit with a flame. Also shout out to the bell burger!
We had one of these next to me but they redid the interior of the old building.
I've been going there my whole life and I haven't thought about being an old Taco Bell Intel people said it out loud. 😄 👍🏽

Actually, that's why I linked to my history of Taco Bell video in this video because I do that and that 1 :)
Eat there often the only thing missing is the actual bell
this used to be a spot for me regularly back a few years ago.
I don't remember those but I'm in kansas we got on later are taco Tico looked a little more like that so cool
Dang this one is older looking than the 1990s one i found in phoenix.. definitely putting this place in one of my movies. -gone lucid
I hated Taco Bell as a kid (and sometimes as an adult), but have fond memories of one menu item at those retro Taco Bells…the Mexican Pizza. 🍕

There is a old Taco Bell in LA
I think my great-uncle, Kaye Bingham, opened that location.
That's awesome!
Oh, i drive by that place all the time going to frys. Didnt know it was special 😂
There are actually a couple of Taco Bell’s with the old style building in Scottsdale, but this is the only one with the original signs!

Was hoping you found a Enchirito.
Too bad you cant get a Enchorito or 7 layer burrito.
They still offer the Enchorito at some locations by popular demand.
Seeing that sign did something to me damn i think i gotta go out to Arizona
Most interesting🤔😄👍👍
McDowell and Hayden. My old stomping grounds. Did you hit the wedge and smoke some weed with the skaters?
What happened to the outdoor firepit?
