I'd dump the bed and all the couches, etc. If the landlord wants them, he can put them in storage. That smell will NOT go away.
That's what I was thinking. Also, a fresh coat of paint might help with smoke smells.... or at least scrib the walls and ceiling down.

I came to say the same thing. There is probably dog pee on the furniture! Also if the floors are wood the pee will be in the wood. We had this problem in our house.

That's my go to go everything 😅. I use it in a mister bottle in the bathroom for an air freshener. Kills bacteria every where!
Is there an air conditioner filter in the apartment? If so, replace or wash it. That will help out tremendously with smell. If that furniture has been there long, smells will be deep into them. I had a cleaning business for over 25 years. Did more than my share of move-out cleanings. Besides the normal cleaning of cabinets, floors, surfaces, washing down walls (use as part of your exercise routine!), that will also help with smell. Best of luck beautiful lady.

I had a similar issue in a home I inherited where multiple small dogs had been peeing all over the carpet throughout the home. It had absorbed into the sub floor. We used a primer called Kilz that was specifically made for pet odor. We put multiple layers before the new carpet was laid and it was great! Also, smoke smell tends to absorb into fabrics. You may be better off splurging on a new mattress.
I would have cleaned the concrete while you have the carpets up with a neutralizer.
I think they had someone who treats pet stains come in and change the carpets. They put some sort of something down lol. I hope so at least, but the smell is gone thank goodness.

Odoban we cleared military housing black light test. We cleaned the carpets with it. Many different scents. Home Depot. Walmart carries spray.

Put pieces of charcoal on plates. Odors be gone🤠❤️

Get a mop and lightly damp it with a cleaner and water and wash the walls that will help with smell.
Add a little Lysol concentrate, it takes care of the worst of odors. Used to use it on abandoned farm homes.

i know you cant sell the couches, but i bet a lot of the smell is in them. i have a small dog and my cloth couches made my living room stink. she didnt even poop or pee on them, just her being on them and sometimes having wet paws or fur from rain that did not dry fully, permeated the cloth. if you can set them out in direct sun for a day or a week, it wlll kill the smell off them and sanitize them.

I just buy new pairs of rollerblades because I've found that new wheels cost almost as much as new rollerblades.... plus, like you said, the boots do take a beating! Also, you would NOT be happy with $20 wheels.

White vinegar and lemon for floors and surfaces. Bicarb soda to sprinkle on the bed if you have to keep it, leave for an hr then vacuum off. Also get a mattress topper so you dont actually sleep on the mattress provided. Essential oil mister. You can get the sofas cleaned. I think you moved in because your car was empty at the end 😉 if so congrats 🎉

also, i would get rid of all the furniture you are allowed to, esp the mattress. i move a lot and i always order those bed in a box foam mattresses off amazon for $100 for a queen. i even got my mom into them for her guest room. then i buy a cheap platform bed that doesnt require a boxspring ~$60. it honestly works great and it's so comfortable and easy. no lugging a big mattress.

They allow cigarette smoking in their units? That is unheard of in CA…spoken from a prior smoker.

Danna, take a swifter and wash/wipe down the walls. It will get dust and make it smell really nice. I'm so happy for you BUT what happens in November? Will you have the option of staying or will you have to move?
Oderban takes animal and smoke smell out you can spray it on the mattress and furniture you can clean walls clothes ect it comes in gallon concentrated jugs that you can put in a spray bottle to spray the beds and furniture it’s concentrated so make the strength you need sold at Walmart sams club and probably Costco it’s good to wipe on wood spray in shoes spray on clothes ect
There is probably pee in all the furniture and in the floors if it soaked through the carpet. It won’t air out, you need to also paint everything. Good luck!🍀
Either get rid of all the fabric furniture or have it professionally cleaned. Wipe down all the hard surfaces. Furniture, baseboards, cabinets inside and out etc. Also, put bowls of white vinegar around the apartment to help absorb the smelly smells!
I might start taking more guitar lessons from you. It will probably be before fall, but I'm not sure yet. I will let you know, but I'm seriously giving up chocolate so I can take lessons. I've just decided what's more important.

shining star 🤩 I'm going to be totally honest, are you able to sleep on a mattress where other people sweated? the woody furniture is ok, you can revamp its energy with some paint. in Temu you can find proper covers for the couchs and not be worried to use them too much. there are also Joom and Aliexpress that have plenty of choices. to sleep you have your futton. the smoke doesn't leave fabric so well, glad you'll have a brand new carpet. to remove the smell of the glue cut a onion in slices, place it in something with water and do one for each room. it also work to remove the paint smell. maybe it will help about the smoke. I'm so happy if the flat is yours already. I'm like you, I would be only focused on making the house a home. but remember us and keep us updated ❤

Need to paint kilz over the concrete! It might take a few coats, animal pee soaks into the concrete and you should be able to see the areas where the animals peed.🥰
Hey Danna, there is this enzyme spray- totally non toxic and it gets rid of all DEM smells! Keep the fans running and open windows. Spray the walls (wash them after- use a window cleaner brush thing. I think you will be golden then! (Google the spray-) there is an enzyme spray for urine smells too- get the one with essential oils (it’s at Petco). Smells good, not strong and WORKS! 🎉I am so excited for you!!! ❤
Use tons of Nature's Miracle on everything. Saturate anything that's especially stinky. Do it multiple times and the smell will go away.

Getting rid of cigarettes smoke is horrible! You have to wipe down walls and cabinets with white vinegar a few times , then repaint .
The carpet being removed should do a lot , but if the dog peed it sinks down on the floor. So they have to thoroughly clean the floors before they lay down carpet.
If there are any pee stains, they may have to remove the wood !
We had a home we rented and it took us 3 months to clean and paint to get rid of the smoke

Danna, when I was a housecleaner at a hotel, there was an ozone machine that would desmell the place. I think it was ran overnight and noone could be in it for 24 hours or something. It was serious stuff. Maybe u can look into renting one or something? That smell WILL not go out of the bed and couch. Have the landlord take em out if they want it.
My friend bought a house from an old lady that smoked for 50 years. It so bad that the walls had picture frame stains on them when they removed the paintings. They had to wash and paint walls. You can hire or do it yourself.

You should see if they can put vinyl flooring in it so much more sanitary easy to clean. I didn’t think anybody put carpets anymore. I flip houses and I never put carpet in.
Maybe cleaning and deodorising the floor before the new carpet is installed will help getting rid of the smell. Walls can be cleaned afterwards.

Get an ozone machine. It cleands deep into the furnitute and even wood and walls. Just put the machine into s room, clise the door and let it run for 24 hrs. Air out well as it dmells like clorine at first. It gets tis of smoke smells and even mold in walls.
I wouldn’t use any of the furniture much less the bed. I’d keep the shelves though and just repaint them.

Hey you can make sun coffe as well. It is very buttery tasting. Just get a big glass jar, put some coffee into anything that will hold it, let water slow drip into the coffee, tie up the bag and just leave it in the sun, heck a car seat would work. Dilute it tho😅 before you drink it.
There's a world of products for pet urine spots that the management should use before the carpet is put back in. You may have to put on the furniture fabrics also. An untrained dog can ruin a place forever if not treated properly afterward. Best wishes ❤️

Yay, congrats. I'm so happy for you 😊! Maybe you could order a new mattress. When I moved into my home, I bought a queen-size mattress from amazon for the guest bedroom. It was affordable and very comfortable! Also, if after the new carpet and a thorough cleaning, the apartment still smells like pee. I dont think you should move in. It could impact your physical and mental health.

Usually apartments get a new coat of paint with the carpets being replaced or deep cleaned. If keeping the furniture you could spray down with Odor Ban (lavender scent) and or clean them with a rented cleaner. Really nice place though, hope you get in out of the heat.
I’m 53 now haven’t dated in 10 years… wouldn’t know where to meet people at this point but if could tell my younger self to take the make up off dress more conservative and meet people on that level I would. I am 54 and same thing. In fact, the last guy I dated was someone who wanted to watch Game of Thrones. Actually I wanted to watch it, he had already seen it. But I also went thru dating nightmares, I am blonde, blue eyes, 5'10" and was too dumb to realize that I was just arm candy. Don't use the extra bath for storage, where will your guests (who you don't want seeing your private bath stuff) use the restroom. Put them in the spare bedroom, cover with sheets and use them in there. Even if it's just to stack stuff on.

Major tip to rid urine smells: Mix up peroxide, dawn liquid dish soap, baking soda and hot water. Play with the mixture ratio. Pour or spray on anything that smells bad & let sit. It definitely works awesome once you use the right amount for whatever you are targeting with it.

The pee smell may have gone into the cement and you have to paint over it with a special paint. Smell may also be in the furniture.
We had to do this in one house we lived in. You must seal the floor before the carpet goes in or the smell will come through.
Actually, for a rental, you’re better off, money & time wise, just spraying something like Odor Ban or Fabreeze on the floor. I’ve always used Lysol concentrate bc we do so much flipping old country stuff.

It's a nice apartment and I hope it works out for you. I don't think you'll be able to get the smell out while the furniture is still there though. It's probably too late, but the walls should have been scrubbed and repainted too. Cigarette smoke and urine are so damn hard to get rid of. Good luck!
