It was shorter that the Spooner Lake route. I was so happy to see the lake so soon. In the end, I didn't care what part of the lake the trail brought me to!
Dude if you keep the content coming, your channel will grow!!!! I love your videos and appreciate that I can watch them with my kids. I can't wait for next years Tahoe trip to follow is more of your foot steps. Thanks Amani!!
Right on. Yeah, I hold back the foul language because I figure parents might want to watch with there kids. Sometimes when I lose a big fish or deal with a bear it's tough! I have a lot of content for the larger Tahoe area for across my channel playlists. Hope it helps you guys to have a great time.
You missed the shortcut because there is no sign or any indication that it goes to the dam! I was purely gambling on a faint memory and it just happened to work out for me! This way is pretty short and easy once you tackle that first grueling couple miles of straight uphill.
Used to live in the area in the '80s. Went up to Marlette Lake a couple of times. As I recall, it used to be some kind of hatchery for NDOW and they didn't allow fishing there ?
I believe it is still a hatchery/brood stock situation. That's why it's only open to fishing for a couple of months a year, is single/barbless hook/artificial lures only, and catch and release only.
It did. The smoke was a downer but the fishing was solid. This route is steep but it knocks at least a mile or so off the hike. Once you hit that fork after a couple miles it's fairly easy. Not much traffic on that trail. At least not on a Tuesday. Saw bike riders cruising along the lake but they didn't seem to be traveling on this route.
great video this was just the info I was looking for. wanting to go to marlette lake but trying to decide on the approach. a third way is to drive up to hobart lake from carson city then approach from there.
Right on. They have a bunch of construction stuff in the lot for this trailhead and a sign that says road closed. I just hiked down there from the regular Chimney Beach trailhead last time I went and hiked in at the crack of dawn. When I came out no one in the road crew said anything. I am curious about Hobart Lake. I was going to try it last year but just didn't make it. Maybe this year.
Actually, you can drive Ash Canyon to within about a mile of Hobart. You must have noticed the parking area at the green gate at the top of Ash Canyon.
On the right side of the trail about 3/4 mile up, there is a patch of thimbleberries. If you have never eaten them, they are the most delicious of nature's forageable food.
Cool. Yeah, I just love being out there in the middle of it all. I have a lot of potential hikes for you on my backpacking and hiking playlist if you haven't seen some of it yet and are interested. Thanks for checking out the clip.
You could have drove around the corner and parked at Spooner Summit on Highway 50. Unfortanely it adds 20-minutes to the Spooner Lake to Marlette Lake hike.
I was wondering about that. I figured I could have worked out a route from there. It was 6:30 AM and the only concrete info I had was on the Chimney Beach option.
A few people have asked for that so I think yes, I think I will in the not so distant future. I already have a few clips where I talk about production stuff for my channel on my variety playlist so I think a clip like this would be a good addition to that background information. I already have a clip on my outdoor safety playlist where I show the gear I bring on backpacking trips when I'm dealing with temperatures below freezing if you haven't seen it and are interested.
So Armani do you think an E bike is legal on this trail? I am an old guy with bad knees who bought an electric fat tire bike. It is awesome off-road and mid drive., which means it could climb that trail most likely. With my bike I can now ride agin going farther and faster if I want and still get a work out. Thanks for taking us along. I like hiking too but the knees complain.
I think that trail is restricted to only very pathetically weak pedal assist only ebikes derived by the ideas of mainly “liberal” mtn bikers than sees themselves as supreme beings vs other bicyclist.
I was not sure about where I was going! It all seemed right from the maps I looked at. I just didn't want to spend hours hiking around to nothing. Luckily, it worked out!
It is, I like this route head and shoulders above it. Once you reach that fork and go left it's pretty easy the rest of the way. Light pack, no problem.
OK, here's a thought. Since I started watching your channel, I went to Cabela's and bought a fly rod combo and started fly fishing. Yes, it's your fault. Go to Cabela's and get them to sponsor your channel. You can imbed a short Cabela's info add in your videos.
If you knew me, you'd know I would never go to an expensive place like Cabela's for a fly rod! I just stopped there on my way home from the Truckee and got 2 cheap packages of jigs and 4 flies. I'm maxed out! That place is expensive. I need to use my money for trips!
Yes, and you will see it in the fishing clip I'm about to put up! There was ash falling from the sky as well that was accumulating on the surface of the water as well.
Really nice hike! Thanks for sharing
That route is golden once you get past the torturous first couple miles of straight uphill. Thanks for checking out the clip.
@@wildernesswithamani1027 sounds awesome! We really enjoy making outdoor content also

Great video Amani, thanks for taking us along!
Always a pleasure. There's a long way to go!
Ooo man! How did i miss that short cut! I went right i guess it took me to the spooner trail and road haha 😂 great stuff man, always entertaining!

I agree videos r fun.
Looks like a nice hike!
I'm just glad I made it there! That trail was barely a back up plan. When I saw the Park Closed I had to do some quick thinking. It all worked out!

That trail is mountain bike heaven ....
Looks like it! You could get as crazy as you want bombing down that thing.

I screwed up when I went to Marlett. I hiked in from Ash Canyon in Carson City. It took me forever but it was beautiful. And I fished Hobart back.

@@michaelperine2780 I drove all the way to the top but I hiked to Marlette from there. That's a hike.
As long as you can find your way out, sometimes the best destinations are found by accident. I can tell you that from experience!

That's cool 😎
If they are those bright red juicy looking berries right along the trail they are ripe and ready to go.

Hi Amani, can you do a show about what you are carryinbg on your back including what is packed in the backpack?

Two words Amani.
E bike.

That's what I told him...
Hi @wilderness with Amani
How bad is the smoke at lake Tahoe area
It was Smokey up there and down in Reno. I think the winds changed to blowing north so it should clear out. At least that's what I heard on the radio.
new camera?? it looks really clear
Same GoPro 5. I probably remembered to wipe the lens for a change!
Amani is that smoke in the background?
Yes, and you will see it in the fishing clip I'm about to put up! There was ash falling from the sky as well that was accumulating on the surface of the water as well.
