But in the US they are canonically girls. In Japan it was socially unacceptable for girls to fight in games. Wile in the US cross dressing was the tabo.

Frankly, the Final Fight franchise is exhauated. Haggar got old, Cody went straight, and Guy went full-on sensei. They've all moved on.
