Oh most sweet Marla, use the bunny slopes to learn how to slow and stop. There is no reason to ski down the top of the hill if you haven't learned how to slow and stop. Me, I don't do the crossing the front of the skis for the same reason you found out; unless you know the exact angle as per your momentum, they will get tangled. I like the resetting your skis sideways and digging into the snow with your body at a backward angle against the momentum .
