I grew up in Marondera in the 80s and was last there when my Dad passed away, in 2006. How it has changed, even from the 2000s! Videos of Marondera and surrounds still make me homesick! As long as I have been away, and despite the change, when I see the land and scenery, in my heart it will always be home.

Born bred, married and raising my own in Marondera....thank you for this.
Takakurira just a street kuseri kwemaShops lol kwaGogo.
Dombotombo names probably comes from the dwala structure opposite the shops. Size wise thats a large ruware stretching up from the roundabout to the market, the name must have something to do with that chete.

Howzit Mr Zim. Love the intro sound track! Is the music around 4:45 onwards by the Rusike Brothers?? It still impresses me at how clean the rural towns are, especially when I compare to SA!! The school kids all neat and tidy too 😄
Parts of your vid seem a bit familiar by the business area, memory is a bit hazy. My old man, RIP Dad, was friends with an Asian family in Marondera, the Patels. Of course at the time during the 1970s it was not common for a pale face to be openly friendly with non-whites. I remember once my Dad taking the family on a trip where we passed thru here and he dropped off a package for one of the Patels, who were a business owner family there. The package was from another of the Patel family in Harare. When my dad had delivered the package, Mr Patel came out to the car and invited us into his shop, a cafe, for a free cooldrink, as a thank you!! A school friend of my first wife was also a Patel and when my dad had an occasion to meet my wife's friend, he asked who her father was, turned out my dad knew her father very well! Surprised the heck out of my wife and her friend...😂😂

Nyameni and Rujeko (Rujeko is a section of Dombotombo) are the oldest. In the 1980s I recall Rujeko houses had a Dover Stove fuelled by wood and houses didn't have electricity unlike the Dombotombo side..

I read it somewhere that Dombotombo was the place the Portuguese army suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of our Rozvi army when they tried to conquer present day Zimbabwe. The Rozvi army was led by our legendary ruler Changamire Dombo.

Blimey, there’s lush green mealies growing at almost every Dombotombo homestead! The camouflage of of green mealies somewhat disguises the lovely suburban hood into a sprawling farm..🤯!?
