this might be my favorite Bestiary in rpgs ever
The origin of the Basilisk is actually quite all over the place. With the Greeks it was a serpent hatched from an egg. In other countries it has to do with the eggs of birds. One of those confused mythologies. All mostly out of the Mediterranean and Europe.
Yeah. Seems like the basilisk was often very similar to what we think of as a cockatriz and they were also used interchangeably. We're lucky to get two different versions in D&D. Or maybe not so lucky from a players' perspective 😅
Not sure it I am misinterpreting you but wanted to ensure you knew that some of those Kin are player character races. I love this game. I run a regular rpg group for my kids and a few other teenagers. This game is just perfect for them. Not too involved, very fast to play, easy to learn and extremely visually evocative.
This and the hardcover rule book released at the same time. I got both today. The hardcover rule book also has an extra adventure called The Castle of the Robber Knight that isn't in the box set. Also, Will-o'-Wisps are undead in 5e.

Does the hardcover core rule book contains the adventures and solo rules from the box or just the core rules?
It has everything that is in the softcover rulebook from the boxset, plus a new adventure.
I'm excited about getting mine, along with the Hardcover rules too on my order!
I do have to say that my only disappointment would be that as standard, we should just get the standees with it, and we should have gotten an extra monster for each reprint of those already in the boxed set that we already have. 😕

The DB monsters seem very cool! The randomized attack system is awesome (like in FL)! The weaknesses of at least some monsters is a fantastic element as well.
