We climbed Pacaya from the other side; up wind. Wife and 2 kids. Cold at the top; the old crater in front, and they active one behind......every 20 minutes - a 100ft tall, 20ft thick steel door SLAMMING! Stayed in a tent. Light show all night.....back in Antigua, an American group WITH armed guide, ambushed by bandits, the same day! "Now we are going to rape your women."....."Not MY wife!".....Bang! Shot in the leg. The mountain closed after.

@@davidwheatcroft2797 oh wow , we’ve felt extremely safe out there, we were up extremely late night everywhere . Everyone have different experiences I guess . Overall I love Antigua , such a vibrant city.

@@asherdasher1258 Oh yes! Guatemala my favourite country by far. I went there first in 1982 when the war was sill on......one year we arrived 12 days after drunk soldiers shot 13 people dead for demonstrating in Santiago. The locals DEMANDED the army leave, and the Police after 6pm. This is so today. We met the terrorists twice - fine! They had no quarrel with tourists.

@ it was my first time visiting , but it certainly won’t be my last time . I did some research regarding the history of the country prior to my visit and it was good that i did , I had a better idea of what to expect , the past of the country , the culture , the people ect … I’m glad I’ve got the opportunity to visit. Next time I will try to visit more places , like Lake Atitlan , and climb Acatenango volcano.

@@asherdasher1258 I did similar, took phrase book, dictionary, notebook. Guate is run by 17 families, all with helicopters! Chichicastenango had altar redone after the Gov retook the town - underneath the altar, they found a CODEX. One of 4 that survived. Wow!......in the 80s, men made $1/day; the women 25c, but everything is cheap.....back then, you could stay for 80c/night with shared bathroom.
