We'd love to hear from you! What makes your heart sing? Why do you use a camera as your vehicle for self-expression? What resonated with you in this episode? Please share in the comments to keep this conversation going!

"Bearing witness" ... yes!!!! I realised that's what I was intending when I shared any images; now I have words for it :). Many thanks!!

Another great honest conversation! It is so interesting hearing experienced photographers talk about their journey. Learning a little bit about the photographs they are making and understanding the thought process. It’s answers so many questions for those of us that do this as a hobby and just for the joy of it. This conversation was like photographic therapy. I really enjoy these talks! Thank you!

Choosing a camera as my "vehicle for self-expression" (thank you for putting that into words!) is that I thought it was because I'm unable to draw or paint (I tried both). But thinking back, I was always drawn to beautiful images (photography) that made me wish I was there. I was transported. To serene scenery with lots of mist, ferns, mossy trees, mountains. Probably because I lived in a busy city at the time, working a stressful job. Now, I love trying to capture that same feeling of being transported to a peaceful scene with my photography. I'm still early in my journey getting there but I learn so much from shows like this. Thank you both!

Thank you for watching and sharing, Lisa! It seems that contrast - working in a stressful job in a big city - really brought home for you the special pleasure you got from photography. I hope wherever you are now, you're closer to the peaceful scenes that you capture. Here's to your creative journey!

Presently about to start a workshop and I didn’t bring the laptop. It makes me feel chained to the mechanical process of working with laptop, cables, external hard drive, card reader, etc vs holding inside and the experience of taking in scenes fully and bathing in the exchange of energies between self and subject. But I brought a book. 😉

"...chained..." YES. That's what it can feel like! What a wonderful gift you gave yourself, Peggy. I hope you had a great time at the workshop and enjoyed the freedom from laptop shackles!

I had to pause the video to comment on your quote from Stephen Furtig(?) about comparison - that we compare their highlight reel to our behind the scenes. Of course the comparison thing isn't a new idea to me, but the observation that it's not just our best to their best, but their best to all of our sweaty fails. I never understood it quite so clearly! Truly wonderful and prescient(!!!) quote. If Mr. Furtig(?) is someone I should know, could you please confirm the spelling, I can't find him. Great convo!

Isn't that a great quote?! So glad it resonated with you. It comes from Steven Furtick; I'm not familiar with his work or other philosophies, but this particular thought has stuck with me for years and helps calm my monkey mind when it starts spinning about not being good enough. Thanks for watching, and happy you enjoyed the convo!
