    I love helping out at my dive shop when new students come through and when they get their cert card at the end they are so stoked. I even make videos for some of them so they can look back and compare how well they've progressed since they were a newb.

    Air tank strap should be lower that's going to slip of 0:44 also you don't need a quarter turn back there was a accident which resulted in a death of a female diver cause the pressure gauge showed 250bar but when she took a breath that number went down to zero and she died after surfacing to quickly (a safe number being 9-10meters per 1minuite)

      The usual rate of ascend was 60 feet (18 meters) per minute until the U.S. Navy adopted the 30 foot (9 meters) per minute rate in 1996 and training agencies followed suit.

    When ascending do you equalise?

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't listen to edgy numetal kid, who doesn't know what he or she is talking about.
      No, you don't equalize your ears when ascending; you equalize when descending. When you're ascending your ears take care of themselves, and your job is to watch your ascent rate, release air from your BCD as needed so you don't ascend too fast, and...most important...don't hold your breath.

    • @chrisfr2358
      @chrisfr2358 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol I misread ascending for descending...

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Read the question again, Alexander: he asked if you equalize when ASCENDING, not if you do it when DESCENDING. The answer is "no." And unless you have a reverse block (rare, unless you dive with a cold or when having a hayfever attack) your ears won't get "badly hurt" from not equalizing when ascending; only if you don't equalize them when descending.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      "how do you sink when there's a airtank, wouldn't you float up?"
      No, you won't float with a full tank, although you might with an empty tank. Remember that the air has weight, and compressed air weighs more (for a given volume) than uncompressed air. Then add the weight of the tank, which is thick steel or aluminum.
      Weight belts (or weight-integrated BCDs) are needed for divers wearing wet suits, because neoprene foam floats. By adding and releasing air from the BCD (buoyancy compensating device) you can control precisely how fast you sink, rise, or hover in the water.

      can I ask how much would it cost to do all this to get it and all that

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      ryan, the cost depends a lot on where you live, and also which agency and school you train with. The best way to find out what it costs in your area is to call a dive shop or check online. The price of gear also varies a lot depending on the brands and models you get, and whether you buy new or used.
      For example, I'm very tall but pretty slender, and I dive in very cold water (Puget Sound), so I needed a custom-made cold-water wetsuit. If you're average size and dive in warm water you can get by with an off-the-shelf shorty or maybe even no wetsuit at all. Same with a regulator: I'm old and frail by diving standards, so I wanted the easiest-breathing regulator I could get; in other words, expensive. But if you're young and fit you could well get by with a less high-end regulator. And so on. Again, talk with someone at a reputable dive shop to get an idea on prices. (And I do suggest buying from your local store, not online. We need the shops as a place to get our tanks filled, rent gear, etc., and if we don't support them they may go out of business in the face of online competition.)

    • @alexandermelnichenko3116
      @alexandermelnichenko3116 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      the padi course is 179$ but then you need your gear.

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      $179 is a really good price. When I took my Open Water Diver course it was $349, which included classroom time and in-water time for the instructors; use of a scuba cylinder, regulator, and BCD; and use of a city-owned pool for the four confined water dives, but you had to buy or rent fins, mask, snorkel, boots, and gloves. (What is really nice is that this school offers everyone the free use of a dry suit and a drysuit orientation lesson along with their OWD course, since the water here is so cold even in the summer.)

    • @charlesxu4411
      @charlesxu4411 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      arman sesar You should be comfortable in the water, and should be a good swimmer

    • @sesarman
      @sesarman 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charles Xu actually since i posted that comment i have now obtained my open water certification and i have to say you don't necessarily need to be a good swimmer to try scuba, i struggled very much on the 200 yard swim test at the pool, but being it the ocean, salt water and what not, with over 7mm of neoprene all around you alone allows for an easy float without ever having to tread much at all, of course you having fins on also greatly increases your directive abilities and makes staying on the surface a piece of cake if all else fails, and last but not least aside from rare occasions which you may not be able to fill up your bc for one reason or another, your bc is always be there as a part of your life support system to keep you afloat whenever you need it, of course you must already know these things but i thought i reply for the record just incase anyone is interested to know what my pwrsonal experience was, however being in shape is my number one recommendation but again, not mandatory.

    Unfortunately, some of the information in this video is false. This can create life threatening situations. Please remember, you MUST take a class with PADI or NAUI to get your certification. You cannot learn from a 6 minute video. The amount of knowledge required as a diver takes nearly a week to learn. Not including the textbook that is given before hand (which took me 1.5 weeks to finish) Rental shops will NOT rent equipment to you without a certification. So don't hold back, get certified!

    1:04 "...then do a quarter turn back."
    No! Don't do it! This is an obsolete and dangerous holdover from 1950s-era pillar valves. There is NO reason to turn a valve back from fully turned. All the way on, or all the way off! Period! Full stop! End of story! Why? Because a valve that's 1/4 from fully turned may be almost fully on but it could also be almost fully off. On the surface the SPG will show full pressure, and a few test breaths won't cause the needle to move, but when you go deep and maximum flow rate is needed you could suddenly realize that the valve is 1/4 from OFF instead of 1/4 from on.
    The next time someone tells you to turn your valve back a quarter, ask him or her why. I bet the only reason he or she can come up with is "Because that's how I was taught...(by someone who didn't know why...but was also taught by someone that didn't know why...who was taught by someone else who didn't know why...)."

    • @calebbaudia
      @calebbaudia 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SeikiBrian U do this because the air valve that u turn can get stuck in the on position!

    • @seikibrian8641
      @seikibrian8641 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      + Caleb Audia -- Wrong. People do it because they are stuck in the past and can't think for themselves. There is no reason for doing this; modern valves don't get "stuck" in the on position any more than they get stuck in the off position. It is a dangerous practice that needs to stop. PADI, NAUI, DAN and every other major diving organization no longer recommends the "turn it on then turn it partially off" practice.

    • @scubardiveshop1389
      @scubardiveshop1389 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally agree with your comment. We made this video back when we first started our company, however, after some research on this particular step, it is apparent that people could actually die. I've seen people turn off their tank during buddy checks, then do a quarter-turn on. I always check people's tanks and tell them why they need to stop doing the quarter-turn.

    you need to wet the band on the BC when mounting it or it will slip when you dive
    at 1:00 he is stepping on his gauges ? never wear a wet suit in a pool ! at 4:00 slowly rotate around in a circle to make sure you will not hit the boat or any thing above you.
    i would never dive with Above Blow Tours

    • @scubardiveshop1389
      @scubardiveshop1389 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been diving since 1996 - 5000+ dives. You don't need to wet the BC strap, because I never have. What I do is, I make sure it is on tight each time.
      He was stepping on his gauge while opening the valve to prevent the moment the glass may break. However, this good in sandy areas, but next to the pool is fine.
      Never wear a wetsuit in a pool? Why? that one is strange. The pools here are so cold in the winter time and EVERYBODY wears a wetsuit in the pool. You should explain why to your logic.
      I see your are criticising the video, but this video was a Crash Course Description of How to Learn Diving... you can't put a 4-5 day course into an 8 minute video.

    when i was only 13 years old i asked my mother to take me to a dive shop because i wanted to learn scuba diving but when we got there the reason i lost out was i refused to sign my name i hated my name so much i would not sign it when i got to the dive shop all these years later it doe's not matter that i lost out on scuba diving i also lost out on over 2 dozen other things because i refused to sign my name because i hated it so much i have now changed my name to a new name and i love my new name so much better that losing out on all these once in a life time activities doe's not effect me one bit any one else who wants to learn scuba diving do not do it because you will have to sign your name just like me the guy at the dive shop said i had to sign my name to join but i refused to do so.

      I believe we filmed this in 2010, and at that time, we rented this gear from another shop.

      A good diver is always a bad diver. No one is worse than Neymar.
