The story is Rivers (the singer) had tought his parents split up because his father was alcoholic. Then, after his mother remarried, he found a beer (somebody's Heine) in the fridge and was afraid his stepfather was ALSO going to be an alcoholic (Like Father, Stepfather).
yeah i dont understand when people say: im not sure but,, well im not even american . its english lisen dumb people '' ohhh i get it NOW!!! '' yeah.. i got it from lisening..
I saw Weezer live 2 years ago. They over delivered big time, it was a lot of fun. You got costume changes, fire, stage changes, it was awesome. El Scorcho is a banger, or if you are looking for a deep cut, In the Garage is also a banger.
Early Weezer is somewhere between the Beach Boys and Nirvana , I think this track is possibly the best they ever wrote. A classic, always loved this tune since the first album was released
"Island in the Sun" is by far my favorite. Maybe because it introduced me to Weezer's music; but it also has this great feel good vibe ... highly recommend. Great reactions, keep it up
Weezer is pretty much following the template that the Pixies established: quiet verse-loud chorus-quiet verse. This song is a prime example. Nirvana followed this template as well. You don't really have to look any further than "Smells Like Teen Spirit." You can really hear the Pixies' influence when you listen to "Where Is My Mind?" and then listen to Weezer's "Sweater Song."
I'm binging your channel. LOL! I saw them live about 4 years ago when Rivers (the main lead) was probably 45ish and they sounded AS AMAZING as they always have. Their entire Blue album is fantastic start to finish. Undone (The Sweater Song) was a huge hit you may want to check out. I have to say, you're taking me down memory lane with so many different genres - even down to songs I used to listen to with my mom when I was little like Simon & Garfunkel and The Mamas and The Papas, etc. Loving it! 👍🏼
Joy for my ears!! My High School years.. their 2 first album (Blue & Pinkerton) are masterpiece!!! Next should be Undone the sweater songs from the Blue album and El Scorcho from Pinkerton!!!
Oh god no...please, I beg you!!! There's so many better songs on that album alone. It's become one of the few songs & the one absolute Pumpkins song I hate from sheer overexposure. You seem like a nice person who doesn't want someone's brain to melt out their ears...so I beseech you...please pick *any* other SP song from Siamese Dream. like mayonaise! that's a good one! ...or Rocket! Geek USA! Quiet! You like Quiet doncha?? Everyone does!! Hummer! Silverfuck! Cherub Rock!! ...my fate is in your hands...
When I was a teenager I used to sit and listen to their Pinkerton album over and over again. It wasn't well-received because nobody really knew what the guys were trying to do, and it was ahead of its time. The guys themselves wouldn't even play the songs in their concerts for a really long time. I heard they've started to get over that and it makes me happy. The song "Butterfly" HAUNTED me. Studios would never allow something that rough to go out now, and the music industry is the worse for it.
Great find. This is a meaningful song and they don't leave any doubt about it in the performance. There is a story behind it that I'm sure has been posted already.
You would like ANY Weezer song you listen to. The way they switch things up is SO you! Not to mention the the lyrics & the sharp drum/guitar chops. AWESOME!
Yeah! More Weezer. If you are interested in more from them I'd recommend: The Good Life, Island in the Sun, Photograph, Beverly Hills, Undone (the Sweater Song)
Growing up I was always around alcoholics and drug abusers. This song came out around the time I started appreciating lyrics. It helped me process a lot of repressed feelings and also reestablish a awesome relationship with my dad. Awesome reaction man!
4:40 I saw them in concert a few years ago. It was great! We had to sit so far back we could barely see them but we could hear and the energy of the crowd was fantastic.
I know that nobody mentions "Only in Dreams" from the same album, but as a Weezer fan for more than 25 years, I really think that it's one of their very best songs. One of the most spectacular outros in 90's rock music.🤘
Just imagine being able to hear this song for your FIRST time. Thats absolutely nuts. So many of us grew up with this song. I cant imagine what It would be like to hear it or the very first time.
I love this kind if reaction to a song that really resonated with my teenage years. 🥰 I think people forget how incredible this song is, other than super fans.
1994-1995 was an absolute "BLAST". $10.00 could fill my tank. Dinner cost $5.00 and there was live music like this, playing at venues everywhere. Honestly, it was like being on spring break every day. The corridor between Indianapolis and Chicago was way too much fun. Lolipalooza, X-Fest, Warped Tour....
This was written about his anxiety with an alcoholic father. "Somebody's Hiney" refers to Heineken his dad always drank... When his step father started drinking in front him him, even though he was a good man, he couldn't help but compare him to his dad. That's why he says "like father, step father, the sun is drowning in the sky" Absolutely incredible lyrics and song
This band literally saved my life, the first time I heard this song was on guitar hero in 08, in 09 my brother died in a car crash and I was given the first two weezer albums blue and Pinkerton, those albums got me through a lot if things in life and made weezer a thou not always good a dear part of my life, and gave me an obsession with rivers Cuomo as a songwriter
I ain’t heard this track for a long long time and hearing it again has bought back memories and made me realise how amazing this band was in the day 👏🏻
Awesome! So glad you played this. I think you'll like Hash Pipe or Beverly Hills, and then really dig some softer stuff like Island in the Sun. If you want to see how CREATIVE they are, watch Pork and Beans.
Not two lead singers but the bassist at the time Matt Sharp did great back up vocals - he left after their second album (which some like me consider their best, while others hate it). If you wanna keep going with Weezer then try: “In my garage”, “el scorcho”, “Tired of sex”, “the good life”, “hashpipe”, and I think one of their best later songs “ain’t got nobody”. Got to see Weezer in concert in 2003 and they rocked it - and from what I hear they put on just as good a show these days as they did back then.
Seeing them live at Austin ACL is on my top best live music experiences ever. Same year and event also watched Jack Black and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Now that was a day remember.
I watched Weezer concert in Jakarta-Indonesia, 2013 and in Singapore, 2016 =w= And I watched Queen concert (and Adam Lambert) in Seoul-Korea, Jan 2020 👑
Kind of a big part of grunge. Quiet verse. Loud chorus. David Bowie does an interview talking about the Pixies where he talks about this new twist to rock, which is one of grunge musics signatures ☺️
Their entire blue album is fire 🔥.
Totally agree! One of the best albums ever
💯 amazing
its great, one of those...this is what that era sounded like albums
Fax man! It’s one of my favs along with Dookie from Green Day, and Nevermind by Nirvana.
One of my favorite albums of all time. Start to finish fantastic. It always cheers me up if I’m in a funk.

"In the Garage" was a brilliant song. And "Jamie" which did not make the cut of the Blue Album. But it became a quiet fan favorite.
@@MC-yi8ij With great geek-cred for comics fans or RPG players. (Or fans of Kiss, I guess, but they weren't my thing)
Island in the sun, the sweater song, pork n beans. Hash pipe
i love those songs. I also love the "I'm wondering if" I want you to song and they have a cool cover to the Happy together song too.
Beverly Hillls tooo
"in the garage"
@RGF RGF there are multiple better songs then the ones you listed
@RGF RGF all the songs you named besides high as a kite and only in dreams are hot ass
Early Weezer is somewhere between the Beach Boys and Nirvana , I think this track is possibly the best they ever wrote. A classic, always loved this tune since the first album was released
Weezer has an amazing ability to be hard and soft at the same time, heavy and gritty while also being smooth and melodic.
Quite a unique sound.
Great 😅observation!
Your reaction was awesome when they came in hard. I love the wide range of songs you review. I loved this song back in 1996
Wow...is it really that old? Could totally pass for a contemporary song today.
@@jankypop-a-matic58 Yep, the blue album came out in 1994! You're right, it's still relevant and awesome today.
Gen xer who just found this. Your joy at hearing these songs for the first time reminds me of mine. Love your channel!!
Right? I love it!
Weezer. - my name is Jonas
Love that song live
Yes!!!!
Awesome reactions J, “El Scorcho” and “Island in the sun” change it up again!
El Scorcho has always been my fav ☺️
YESS!!!! Both those songs are amazing too!!
Their album Pinkerton is a modern masterpiece.
True, it's one of those special albums where every song could've been released as a single, not one misses the mark
Pinkerton is an album that I have defended to the hilt for 20+ years.
This has to be my all-time favorite Weezer song. I loved seeing Jay's grin while listening, and of course his reaction to the heavy bits.
You should check out Undone (The Sweater Song).
God this is such a good song
"Island in the Sun" is by far my favorite. Maybe because it introduced me to Weezer's music; but it also has this great feel good vibe ... highly recommend.
Great reactions, keep it up
Never heard that song loud and with head phones. It is actually intense with the parts melting. I am impressed!!
Yay more Weezer! #altrock
Love to see you do some of
*The Offspring*
"She's Got Issues"
Oooo thanks for jogging my music memory banks lol
This whole album is bomb...Weezer is one of my top fave bands of all time.
My daughter loved these guys along with Blink 182
, No Doubt, Spice Girls and Green Day - the sound of a generation.

Yep. Pixies and Nirvana were rivers’ favourite bands in the late 80’s and early 90’s when he wrote this record.

I love when artists incorporate emotion through the energy of which they perform.
LOVE this song. Can't tell ya how many times I've played it, but it's a LOT....and the crowd LOVES it every time....and they all start singing along!
One of the songs that made me fall in love with Weezer. The Blue Album is quality from start to finish.
Joy for my ears!! My High School years.. their 2 first album (Blue & Pinkerton) are masterpiece!!! Next should be Undone the sweater songs from the Blue album and El Scorcho from Pinkerton!!!
Smashing Pumpkins "Disarm" a must listen!

I saw Weezer in concert 2 years ago. They were VERY tight and professional, but also very fun show. They really get the crowd involved.

My favorite Weezer song great reaction 👍
This song was my JAM back in the day! Still one of my favorite '90s songs ever!
Any song off of the blue album is great.

I dont think they have ever written a better song than this
I really love My Name is Jonas for some reason…

I saw them for the first time in 1999- they still tour and sell out arenas. They are just as amazing in person as you would hope/expect.
This band is amazing!!! Most of their songs....when I first heard it I didn't know it was them. Those are the bands I love the most! Thank you 😘
I love how you appreciate every new artist you listen to. You appreciate the music man. Subbed.
Every song on the Blue Album is a hit. Great reaction!
This song and your reaction had me smiling the whole time. It was like letting a friend hear something for the first time...
This is one of my favorite songs at karaoke (here in Japan). It always goes off, everyone gets into it. Love it!
Weezer's "Keep Fishin'" if you want to see Miss Piggy kidnap the drummer Pat Wilson!

Man I forgot just how epic this band was. Absolutely one of my favorites.
