Theirs's a lot of information on Ray Hicks and his extended family from Beech Mountain on TH-cam. Looks like the poverty and culture of Appalachia has gone and replaced with chair lifts , gift shops and tourism. Just glad Alan Lomax and others documented this region and its people back in the 70and 8os on film. Thx for showing us this up to date video.
Beech Mountain has been destroyed by the greed of the government of Beech Mountain. They do not give a damn about the people who have lived here for decades.
Hello guys hard to believe that y'all were in our back yard. Our little family were all born and raised in Avery County NC. My wife and I graduated from Avery High School. My wife use to clean houses on Beech Mountain before she got her nursing license. And our last name.....Hicks! Thanks for visiting our neck of the woods. A Whistle Pig is a groundhog lol. God bless y'all 🙏
your videos and the choice of background music has away of letting me feel at peace ,for this i thank you , love is a awesome and wonderful gift ,you are truly blessed
Two of the most beautiful places in the united states are western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee. Mike and Karen are living the Dream👍👍 Thanks for sharing.
I spent my Summers on Beech Mountain growing up, but it’s been about 20 years since I’ve been there. Fred’s looks exactly the same. The historical museum wasn’t there though. It used to be a really great toy store with all sorts of oddities.
Fred's Mercantile is a great place to visit when in beech mtn. It is unbelievable how much stuff is crammed in that little store. My girlfriend and I purchased property there two years ago and are planning on building our second home On upper snowbird trail. We Love the small town atmosphere and friendly folks and the hiking trails cant be beat.
Hello i live just about forty five minutes from Beech Mountain yes it is truly Amazing with all those million dollar views on all sides so glad you both enjoyed North Carolina Beech Mountain
Thankfully my german/ irish and scotch ancestors chose to settle down in the mid 1700's up in them beautiful far western nc mountains and then many eventually crossed the blue ridge and cherokee mountains to settle in beautiful valley around johnson city and blountville areas in northeast Tennessee areas by 1777 to 1780's. Most of my families on both sides were some of the first pioneer families to settle in the valley area of northeast Tennessee. My Denton's and Jone's are kin to lots of folks in the tri cites. One of my best friends Sonja (Cox) Crowe ended up being my (5 th)cousin through my (2 nd) great grandma /eliza yates who who's maiden surnsme was CHASE. Sonja's parents both come from 2 of eliza chases siblings blood lines!
We took that chair lift up one summer. It was very uncomfortable since there was no where to put your feet. That bike path was rough. We live where we see the slopes all the time from a distance. Thanks for the views.
Mike and Karen I instantly moved this video to a bigger screen! Stunning views! Excellent editing and intro music perfect choice! It put me right there with you both!
When I was at etsu back in the mid 80's we would go snow skiing at either hawks nest in boone,nc. Sometimes at either beech mountain or at sugar mountain ski resorts. Sometim we would just go to wolf laurel ski resort located north far from flag pond,tn but over in nc. It wasn't far away from etsu campus.
We are driving up to Pigeon Forge this weekend. Can't wait to get out of Georgia for few days. Fun video Fridays. Thank you for taking all of us viewers along with you.
Amazing views on Beech mountain!!Looks so close to Heaven, with the beautiful white clouds!Absolutely love your videos and the interesting history included in most of them !!Thanks so much Mike and Karen!!❤
That view was worth more than $12! What beautiful views! My tummy quivered a little when you walked towards the one view that dropped off! This place looked really cool! We are going to have to spend some time in North Carolina to visit these fantastic places you are showing in these videos! Loved the photo bomber towards the end! ♥️ Thank you for taking us along!
Heading that way the first week in Oct. to visit the Land of Oz...Autumn in Oz event. When it first opened many years ago... my parents took us almost every year. There and Tweetsie Railroad were much looked forward to by my brother and I. So thrilled that they have been able to reopen the park. Seems like it's getting better every year.
Make sure you have tickets already. The only time i see that they are open are during the weekends in Sept. unless you were able to get a private tour. Just didnt want yall to show up and not be able to visit the park.
Mike I wondered what happened to your motorcycle channel. I thought you ran off the mountain dragging a knee on the dragon. Glad to see you are alive an well. Enjoy your new channel. Even if they aren’t about motorcycles.
Wow! I'm imaging what it would look like covered with snow.🤔☃️ Also imaging Mike and Karen going down the more experience slopes.😉⛷⛷ Thanks for sharing.🤗

That looks like a fun place to go in the winter. I wonder why they don't have a barrier where Karen was standing lookin at the view? That was a beautiful view but looked very dangerous. That would be beautiful in the fall I bet.
I love that area of North Carolina, except for the monstrosity of an eyesore they have built on top of Sugar Top in Sugar Mountain south of Banner Elk.
Fall would be beautiful!
