After attending the Crucial Conversations Live event this morning and watching this video, I had an actual opportunity to use one of their tools this afternoon. I feel so humbled! Over the past couple of years, I have had difficulty getting communications distributed through the communications manager. Well, it seemed like it happened again today! I was so mad, I sent an angry text to friends about the situation, started looking for another job and even called one person to start distributing the communications myself. Then I watched this video and considered the 3 questions to "assault our stories." I approached the communications person and calmly asked if I could talk to her. She offered me a seat and complimented me on my shoes. On the walk over to her office, she had already sent me an email apologizing for forgetting to include my announcement and showed me where she had reworded it to show the logical progression of events, attract more attention to the event specifics, and had posted it to an internal website. I was ashamed about how fast I had let the story I told myself to control my emotions about this person. From now on, I'll remember the gray fedora.
