    Making things up and then trying to organize them into something on the page is a better high than I've ever experienced. It's completely addicting. Even if you're terrible at it it's still a blast.

    You don't have to sacrifice anything in order to pursue what you enjoy doing; you would only be sacrificing if you were not pursing what you enjoy doing.

    We all want the fame and fortune, but deep down to see our soul printed on a piece of paper means more than anything we could ever wish for. I think most of us feel the same way you feel. We want the world to sort of see us for us, but through words instead of dance, or acting, or singing. It's a unique medium.

    Well, I work from 7-4pm, bathe, prepare dinner, clean, do laundry etc. I'm trying to have all these things done and in bed by 6:30, so I can be up at 2:30 am. Do a little writing, then be out of the bathroom by 6, so my boyfriend can get ready for work. My biggest distraction is, well, TH-cam. It's all about time management, I guess. And delayed self-gratification.

    This is a very ideal writer’s life. I do writing for living for almost three years now, the most pronounced sacrifice is my social life, though I didn’t have much of it while I was working in the office. But writing requires a lot of solitude, and the lack of human interaction can be very detrimental to one’s metal health. 😢

    besides giving up your marriage and your family's approval, being a writer ain't that bad.

    Probably the greatest myth about writing, being a musician, acting and etc. is that those who are really supposed to do one of these things, don't care about recognition and fame. I am writing my first novel now and I am sure that writing is the only thing I was made to do. I would starve and live in one small room for the rest of my life just for the oppurtunity to write, BUT beside this I daydream of receiving the major literary award almost every day. So don't accept such pathetic bullshit directly and don't believe to someone who says if you are daydreaming about having the most depraved sex with someone, that means you can't be in love with that person.

      Respectfully, I would disagree with you. There's a difference between doing something you love and hoping that you make it big one day, and getting into an industry with the singular goal of being successful. Virtually all artists who are successful do it because they love it: fame and fortune are secondary. I'm sure that there are many people who go into these types of fields with the singular goal of becoming national treasures, but for the most part, they fail, or they succeed because they also had talent in the first place.

    • @BGMMM100
      @BGMMM100 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can't be a successful writer simply by wanting it. You have to live and breathe your art.

    • @LucaAmayo
      @LucaAmayo 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Benjamin Miora That's not really "disagreeing" with what he's saying. He's not saying talent or passion has nothing to do with it. Rather, that passion and desire for success aren't mutually exclusive. Even if something comes "secondary", as you state, desire for success is to passion, that clearly doesn't mean that the two can't coexist, whichever you decide is your primary or secondary goal.

      I think there's a chasm between doing something for love and doing for success/money/fame.
      Most real writers (including me and you it seems) fall into the former category. I don't think the point is they don't care at all: that's clearly ridiculous and I've rarely heard ppl claim that.
      Maybe as a writer you don't realise many (most?) people do things primarily for money/power/success.

    Loved it! Would love to be in his position someday- write for three hours and the rest of the day is yours. Currently however, I work to pay the bills and write when I can but the kind of life he outlined- that's the dream that makes all the other bullshit worthwhile.

    I don't really think you have to sacrifice anything to be a writer. What do you have to sacrifice to work an 8 or 10 or 12 hour job, I think is a better question.

  • @theBeorn

    every writer dreams about selling their stories so they can live off writing, but even if you don't sell, you just do it for the fun of it. myself included.
    but you're right, when a writer says something like that im like Bullshit, of course you wanted to be published, not to be famous, but to continue writing more and more!

    Anything he pens is worth reading. And if you see writing as a sacrifice--you have better things to do--then you're just wasting your time. You won't become a good writer.

      And maybe, I don't want to be cheeky, but maybe ... the truth. He said he writes just for the fun of it and doesn't even care if it fits the markets story mold, whatever that is, and then he describes exactly the same writing process everyone else out there is doing. Early in the morning for three hours.
