    About Katie Toupin:
Katie Toupin is an American singer-songwriter from New Albany, Indiana currently residing in Southern California. Growing up, her father nourished her love of music and helped her develop her singing and guitar playing talent. In 2011, she co-founded the alt-blues band Houndmouth with a few childhood friends; she sang and played keyboard. Katie remained with the band for five years as they toured the Midwest and, soon after, began performing at some of the country’s largest festivals including ACL, American Music Festival, Bonnaroo and Lollapalooza. During that time, Houndmouth also made national TV appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman,” “Conan,” and NPR’s “World Cafe,” just to name a few.
In 2016, the group announced that Katie would be leaving the band to pursue other opportunities. On March 2, 2018, her first self-released EP “Moroccan Ballroom” (bit.ly/KTMorocc...) debuted. She named the EP after the room they recorded it in (which took a total of just 6 hours). Tracks like “Danger” (bit.ly/KTDanger) and “Shake Baby” (bit.ly/KTShakeBaby) are still among some of her most popular songs. Telling tales of lost love and her decision to move to the West Coast, “Moroccan Ballroom” showcases a wide range of indie-rock style and sound.
In 2019, Katie released her first full length album, “Magnetic Moves” (bit.ly/KTMagnet..., titled after the opening track. The album is all about being bold, brave and completely direct. It was a new venture for Toupin with an equally new sound to match. In true solo artist fashion, she also produced the album for her very first time. She had worked with several outside producers up to that point and felt that, in the end, her music just never sounded quite like how she felt it should. In the modern age of “do it yourself,” she found that having total creative control was the way to go and the only true way to capture her vision. The album touches on a variety of human emotions and promotes the concept of welcoming them all, even the not so fun ones. The song “Run to You” (bit.ly/KTRunToYou) reminds listeners what it’s like to fall for the wrong person. “Someone to You” (bit.ly/KTSomeon...) is about changing your ways to be the right person for someone else. When it comes to love, it can be difficult to know when to give up and when to try harder. “Magnetic Moves” finds mild psychedelia meeting indie-folk in a whimsical world of romance and heartbreak.
Katie’s single “Astronaut” (bit.ly/KTAstron..., released in March 2021, appeals to the childhood dreamer inside us all (connecting with your inner child, the hopefulness, bravery, innocence, everything you came intact with). Katie feels that this song truly represents her sound the way that it was supposed to be represented. Though she stands strongly on her own, with the new addition of a small group of people to help her create, she's found her stride and truly settled into her new role as a solo artist.
