  • Today’s episode has one objective; inform the masses about Down with Love. I’m sure some of you already know about this hilarious movie made in the image of the 1960s sex comedies. But not enough of you are aware of its greatness. It stars Ewan McGregor and Renee Zellweger, both of whom have never looked better. They get into a relationship with each other, each with their own intentions. Just watch, we promise you’ll love it. The cherry on top is that it was directed by Ant-Man director Peyton Reed. We didn’t put this together until recently, and it was a bit of a AHA! moment.
So what do you think of Down with Love? Obviously we love it. It’s one of our all-time favorite movies for just so many reasons. Let us know your thoughts over Twitter or in the TH-cam comments! For now though, settle in for today’s very groovy episode of So…I’m Watching This Show!

Definitely one of my all time fave movies. I think you really need to see the Rock Hudson/Doris Day/Tony Randall movies to get what they're "Homage-ing" as well as the general early 60's tropes they're lampooning. Tony Randall (played by David Hyde Pierce in this movie) always played the neurotic, slightly effeminate buddy to Rock Hudson's hyper masculine leading man.
Also, a lot of the way the jokes are put together are, once again, an homage to how they had to write in the early 60's because of the Hayes Code. Since the culture was changing at that point the writers would insinuate stuff constantly to get it under the noses of the Censors. There's a Rock Hudson/Doris Day scene that really isn't far off from the over the top split screen sexually suggestive antics they get up to in Down with Love.
Finally I'm SHOCKED that there was no mention of my favorite bit when the recently hired young staff writer coming to New York is helped out with her boss getting her an apartment (which in the real world would be a cockroach infested closet (prices being what they were...even in the 60's), and when she opens the door it's this Penthouse overlooking central park with a spiral staircase and indoor fire pit and the height of 60's fashion and Renee says...drum roll..."It's Darling...". Just kills me every time. Anyway, it's brilliant.
    Cheers!

Hi I don’t know if y’all have seen this movie but it’s called “The Man from U.N.C.L.E” it gives of the same energy an drama very old Hollywood vibes as Down with Love did. It came out in 2015.

Love this film and really enjoyed this episode. You should definitely review Sylvie's Love on Amazon Prime if you want a modern movie with an old school feel (a classic melodrama).

“There WERE nazis hiding at your luau!” That’s just one of the kickass lines this has.
Thanks for the recommendation, Tony Goldmark!
