    One of the oldest military regiments in the world, the Swedish Royal Guard (Livgardet) was formed in 1521 by the Swedish King Gustav Vasa. For the past 500 years, they have been evolving with the times and have served various kings and queens. They are still active to this day. It's good to hear Joakim sing in Swedish again. When singing in English he deepens his voice in a way that has never stopped sounding awkward to me. It sounds more clear and genuine when he does it like this. It's a big reason why Carolus Rex is still my favourite in their discography.
    For this reason, I guess you can consider me quite stoked for this album.

    • @Valsorayu
      @Valsorayu 3 ปีที่แล้ว +33

      It's hard to sing in a foreign language (especially English for some reason). Personally it feels like I get oatmeal in my mouth... it's very trippy.

    • @erikdahlgren6656
      @erikdahlgren6656 3 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      Might be because they use quite heavy words in the lyrics, both emotional and prenounced. Plus the "tone" of the scandinavian tounges are so different so he might need that extra power to get it out good.
      You can also listen to the difference in other metal bands that jump between english and swedish. Could be because the singing tradition here is so melodic in almost a kind of medieval way and the metal bands often seem to fall back to that comfort.
      Just like all metal bands really. They are all coloring the genre with thier own national musical traditions. And we can all unite under the banner of "HELL YEAH!!"🤘🤘

      I've also noticed that with myself, that I usually have a deeper voice when speaking English, instead of my native language (Swiss German). It just happens, I suppose, because the languages themselves sound differently... I don't think Joakim does it deliberately either.

    Actually, the phrase "knä om knä" has been translated as "side by side" or "shoulder by shoulder" as in a standing position. The true meaning "knee behind knee" is for cavalry. They rode in a v-formation so close to eachother that one riders knee was just behind the next one, so the width between the horses was just one leg. This very tight formation was really hard to break, and caused panic for the footmen, since there where no way to escape to be trampled. It was one of the reasons Sweden won the Battle of Lund (mention in the lyrics) facing a much bigger army. Very nice detail of Sabaton to include in the song.

    • @Jeff-xy4fi
      @Jeff-xy4fi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I mean a cool bit of history but "knä om knä" translates to "side by side" as you said, "the true meaning" isn't "knee behind knee" that's called google translate.
      "Knä om knä livgardet går" doesn't really fit cavalry either as it would translate to "Knee behind knee the lifeguard march/walk". If it was about cavalry wouldn't it be something like "charge" instead of "march"?
      It's interesting that you could read that much into it but it probably just means "Side by side the lifeguard march", I guess we'll have to wait until the English version drops but they might change the lyrics entirely as they did with some of their old songs.
