Thankfulness I have vogue L322 ,I get fed up the battery drain easily, I started buying too many batteries for it .I have to disconnect the battery at night time. I can do this so I can get a peace of mind.i am grateful to for you, keeps it up up up up.
Rasta, welcome. Keep in mind though, if your drain is large, this won't help. The relay won't work if the primary battery goes below 9volts. If I let this sit for a few weeks, drained. As a result, installing an actual isolator under the hood so I can turn battery off in those cases. This has been a great help for days of parking.
Thanks, the sales pitch for the battery kit doesn't explain that this modification will be the best answer for a parasitical battery drain. Which seems to be a common problem with a L322.
Nicely explained, and I agree with your reasoning about using the fuel pump relay fuse for an ignition source. The new main power lead to the relay has been cut far too long and gets in the way of everything, but I know they have rejigged some of it and now the leads are a more suitable length, and as a result it's a lot neater set up. It's quite a neat kit but I feel it's very expensive for what it is and I am going to build my own as the wiring is very simple. I'm an ex church organ builder and if I can make a main cable with well over a thousand wires soldered each end to a board with a thousand test pins I think I can do that job lol
Thanks for watching!! Agree, a bit pricey especially if you can make yourself. Admittedly I pay for convenience sometimes as my time is limited!! Give us a subscribe!
And watching this again, I know you changed the relay supply from 15 amp fuse number 12 ( rear blower) to fuse 15 ( fuel pump relay) but the piggy back fuse holder had a red fuse which is a 10 amp one yet it was put in place of a 15 amp one. Considering you are putting an extra load into that circuit albeit just the relay magnet winding on top of the rear blower that is just asking to blow that fuse constantly because it has one third less amperage trying to do now two jobs instead of its original one. And using the fuel pump fuse which is 25 amp is even worse of you still use the ten amp one supplied. So I would recommend that you put the 25 amp fuse into the piggyback instead of the 10 amp one supplied. Sorry to be so long winded but I feel it's important.
I have now completed my own version of this installation on my 2006 Overfinch Range Rover and I ended up having to use the fifth over fuse as Poweful uk advise, the reason is that the fuel pump fuse is live all the time, ( the ECM controls many things by switching the ground and not the live on these later vehicles, plus I have something like 8 extra fuses on that load space fuse board and the amperage values in the hand book for many of the fuses are not the same) the fifth over fuse was a switched live so that's where the piggy back went in, and works fine. One other comment I would make is that when you started the car, you made no checks to ascertain whether the relay unit was actually working. You needed to put a voltmeter or multimeter on to the terminals if the battery to see the voltage without the engine running, and it will be roughly 12.5 v give or take, then start the car and check the voltage again and you should be getting alternator charging voltage of around 13.8 - 14.8 volts indicating that the relay is operating and the slave battery is getting charged. And of course when the ignition is on and the engine off the electrical system is being powered by both batteries and thus getting full 12v plus to enable the gremlins to keep away!
Thank you very much for your clear video. I ordered and paid for the set from Luxury Land Rover Upgrades, 3 weeks ago but I don't get any response anymore, do you know if this company still exists?
Thanks for watching. Mine arrived quick when I ordered it but that was well over 3 year ago. I am not sure if the status of the company. In any event, contact them and if not reply I would dispute the charge and get your money back. I will look into them as well.
Thanks for this. Brilliant video and really helpful as I'm thinking of doing it to my 2004/5 L322. I may have missed it, but where/how did you vent the new battery? Thanks.
Very true!! That would be less than ideal!! As of now, the battery isn't in the nook but in the boot ratcheted down. I had to borrow the battery for my other l322 and haven't placed it back in the nook yet! As always, use caution and your best judgement on what you feel is safe, etc. Use TH-cam for some ideas and further refine. Thanks for watching!!!
I am interested in one of these, what amps is the fuse i n the inline holder ? I believe t is a 100 amp relay and wondering what the fuse is rated at ?
None of the fuses are ignition controlled, they are all fed by the common busbar in the fuse rail so by placing the fuse in position two energises the relay full time, thus adding yet another battery drain. You'll have to find a positive wire that is energised by the ignition and splice into that to energise the relay.
@@jamzdotnet I'm a bit of a noob with this, when we say "disconnect the main battery", is that simply, detaching the + and - connectors, or is it removing the battery?

Glad it helped! The battery is not vented. It's a debatable topic, many say modern batteries don't need to be vented, etc.

I just used the same size battery that was in the primary location and it fit ok.

Curious to know if you added a vent tube to that second battery and if so, where does the tube exit in your L322?
Many thanks.
I did not .. the area is actually pretty breathable and I assume the vent mechanism on the standard battery will operate as required.
