This clearly wasn't the time capsule described in the 1887 newspaper article. Everything about it differs from the details in article. This was a 2nd time capsule that was secretly placed into the monument base by James Netherwood, the man who supplied the granite stone to build the monument base and who oversaw its assembly. The time capsule described in the newspaper is still missing.
It was probably filled with those terrible "symbols of hate" and disposed of along with the statue. They can always revise what the contents were inside the box.
I tried watching the live feed of the opening but it was too painful watching that woman try for 10 mins to fold back a small piece of metal. It there were krispy creme Donuts in there she would have had it open in no time
My training and experience in working with national landmarks and conservation and restoration of these valuable reminders of our past had me cringing at this amateur recovery operation. It clearly shows this woman is appointed to her position and not deserving to lead this operation. She is impolite as well. The lack of proper equipment and lighting really shows the level of amateurish attention to detail. Using that steel plaster blade was butchery!
To be fair the bulk of the content seems to be in book/paper form, in their fragile condition it might be hard to tell for sure if something was originally an individual item or part of another one.
They’d really lose their shit if they knew how to find old mineral rights deeds in the court house archives, frequently run across property lists that read “One large N***** stud” “ Pickaninny woman” etc. The cultural Marxist aren’t gonna be removing any of that.
The missing time capsule probably contained valuable items such as gold coins , precious stones or personal artifacts from Robert E. Lee or/and Jefferson Davis . A thief in the night stole that box and covered the hole that was dug as if nothing happened.
I would say they already found the other capsule but didn’t like what was in it and destroyed it………..probably it was too offensive for they soyboys of today 😁
I wouldn't be surprised if it was somehow hidden inside of the actual statue itself because the majority of them are usually hollow but now we may never know. Still tho if I was them I would definitely also check deep underneath the ground the pedestal was on.
I have a question. Why were you taking down the Robert E Lee statue down. I know he was a confederate general but he is also part of your history so why take it down. You are never going to erase the history he made unless you are going to erase history. I am not much of a history buff but to me coming from a historical city in the UK i think our history should be taught to everyone whether your interested in history or not. For a time capsule to be found after 130 and thirty years whether official or unofficial should be conserved and made available for the world to see. I know we are all totally super sensitive of things that happened in the passed but unless we learn from them and the reasons for the wars we will never learn about what caused it or who was responsible for it but it is not only about the wars that shaped us but how we lived too. Mysteries that have been in our history lessens and schooling in university or college too about the free masons who were not supposed to tell who they are or what goes on behind closed doors for ceremonies etc and the Knights Templar who were also a religious sect to protect serve as guardians of the church and were supposed to have been poor knights from a bygone era. some say they never existed, while others say they were all hunted down killed by the church for heresy. There are lots of different theories on the Knights Templar who became popular in the 1990s - early 2000' over the DaVinci code talked about the reason why the Knights were started to protect Jesus' blood line up to today. We really don't know too much about them because the mystery of why they became knights templar. Even though i am not a history buff i think it is important to learn from our history and not try to erase it. Robert E Lee was a great general in his time, but that war put Americans, against Americans of the difference of opinion over slavery. which should never have happened in the first place. Dopple-gangs were set up in our British history to get men to serve in the forces, if they didn't Enlist voluntarily they were bash on the head and then they would wake up miles out to sea, and were beaten till they went to work or they were thrown over board if they refused. not a great part of our heritage but that isn't the worst of it. We all have something to learn from in our history but the British heritage is a long history and as i was born British or English, there are things i am not proud of from our ancestors. We do not remove statues from the ones we are not proud of but rather we leave them there as a reminder of what not to do. to say Robert E Lee was a bad man is not true he was a good man just on the wrong side of the fence as it were he was a great general and that is why his statue was erected in the first place. The reason time capsules were put into old buildings is so one day they will be opened for everyone to see how they lived and what was going on up until the box was hidden from sight, So documents and other artifacts of that time can be viewed and studied and to learn what the news was how people lived and to me this is the interesting part of opening a time capsule. I saw a time capsule the other day that was called the JFK time capsule buried in 1965, in another state that was put in a vault with a concrete slab on top of it, with all the advances in technology that vault ended up full of water and most of the contents of that hugh trunk sized box was water logged. Yet we have a box made of Copper and sealed in a concrete compartment below the Robert E Lee statue for 130 years later being opened with minimal water damage that was mainly caused by the condensation of the box being brought out from the environment where it had lived in for 130 years to the temperature of the day of discovery till the opening of the box. So all our advances in technology didn't save something put in the ground in such a short timeframe did yield much, yet one from 130 years ago did. Maybe the people back then were really smarter than what we are today.
Perhaps if you read the full history of him and not just the just subverted exaggerated propagandist history on him, you'd know why. Just a few brief points on him. He hated slavery. Only "owned" slaves because they were inherited to him but treated them like family to the best could as the slave laws would allow. He didn't free them be he feared they would be captured and re-enslaved and was looking to freeing them to free slave states but knew that was very risky for him and them.

I just hope the artifacts that are buried next, under the next statue...don't offend people 100 years from now.
Real talk! ✊🏾
worse about 150 years
No telling. At this rate, within a hundred years, people may have much bigger problems than being offended by statues.
Maybe if its a statue of you
@nimo you should make a capsule of all the nice things you write. People in the future will definitely benefit. In fact do one till next week.
Should have left the statue alone

Lmfao had to come back to laugh at this 😂😂😂😂😂
Have they checked the statue itself within the statue
Maybe somebody got to it before and replaced it with different items?? I don't know. It's strange that the box was a different size, etc.
No better way to change history then remove and replace history. Lol 😆 🤣 😂.
Yeah , worked for Hitler , Mao , Stalin , and Pol Pot.
Not funny.

Same here they are always lying

Back with my wife in Tennessee
When one day she called to me
"Virgil, quick, come see,
There goes Robert E. Lee!"
"There were approximately 8 items in there"
Seriously? Who cannot immediately count to 8? FFS🤦♀️

Good news. The 1887 time capsule was found this morning.
Good
There's always somewhere to look
So why no pictures of the items?
If it wasn't the capsule they were looking for then why did they dig it up in the first place??" 🤔🤔
Amazing that these people are obsessed with this fine, yet hate history and facts. I’m surprised they didn’t just torch it.
Lol. Isn't it ironic?
Which history? The one where a civil war was started so that people could keep owning slaves? That history?
